The ONLY redeeming factor was the friendly receptionist. Although she couldn't help me at all, she was very friendly about it.
I was checking in on a Sunday. As per their own policy, check-in is from 15:00, yet I was called at 09:00 AM on Sunday morning to ask when am I planning to come as they are leaving at 15:00. Luckily I was in the area and could change my travel plans, but I had to cancel lunch with my family to be able to be there before 15:00. Please consider that guests have to travel far to Velddrif and phoning on the day of check-in is unprofession, especially since check-in is supposed to be FROM 15:00, not before.
After arrival to, honestly, quite a sad-looking room, I checked in. There is parking behind the hotel, and then the hotel is accessible by a back door. Mind you, this back door remains open constantly. Of course it is, otherwise they would've locked me in at 15:00 when everyone went home! However, there is no way of closing this back door.
After a trip to the shop, I returned to my room and realised the ceiling is dripping in at multiple places (it's been raining that day). The ceiling honestly looked like it was about to give way, looking all swollen and thick with water. My personal items got wet.
Thinking I'm a gracious guest, I tried to contact someone to move me at least to another room. Landline only! Everyone left at 15:00, I'm all alone in an open hotel with a leaky roof, and there is no emergency cellphone number
I left that same instant as I realised that this hotel does not care about their guests' safety or comfort.
I sent a message on this platform, no reply. I returned the next day to ask for my money back, only to hear that the owner is not there and they can't do anything to help me without his say-so. I asked if they can contact him and they said no, he is not there. Like, is this person missing? Should we call the police? I emailed the hotel and the owner directly without any answer.
To say I am disgusted is an understatement.

Well considering it was July holidays we were the only ones in this hotel. Unfortunately they gave us room no 1 right next to reception & was quite noisy. My husband was trying to sleep as he was sick. Overall the breakfast was very nice but next time definately going to take one of the chalets. 😊

The running of kids in the hallway. The staff talking and screaming very loud early in the morning in the hallway. The big fridge in the room is making a noise the whole night.
Everything was great from the time we booked in until we had to leave. Breakfast was great. Staff very friendly and helpful. Room was good.

Lack of cupboard space and electric points. The wheels on the oil heater were broken so we battled to move it. Carpet was dirty.
The breakfast was great. The rooms were warm in a chilly winter, and the shower was blissful and large! The bar fridge was a lifesaver. Loved the views and the location on the river.
The restaurant that was advertised in permanently closed. There is no microwave in the room to heat bought food and no restaurant in safe walking distance.
