Cons:

the location is a little out of town. about w ten minute walk. it's not far, but the last bit isnup a very steep hill. no problem if you have a car, but we did not. the staff would have picked us up with our luggage at the train station, but we didnt realize it was necessary. on returning they were very gracious about driving us down to the station

Great stay.
Pros:

Large room, great breakfast and very friendly staff and owners. The panoramic
View was wonderful.

Cons:

The panoramic view comes with a challenge of attempting to walk from the train station with a rolling suitcase. Either call the hotel for a ride, grab a taxi or, if you wish to walk, stick to the road and not the walking path.

Grandiose Lage
Pros:

Anlässlich eines Oldtimer Treffens im Appenzeller Land hatten wir das Hotel Freudenberg für vier Übernachtungen gebucht. Beim freundlichen Empfang fiel uns gleich die exponierte Lage mit dem herrlichen Blick über Appenzell auf. Das traditionell und geräumige Zimmer bot allen Komfort und vom Balkon den Blick auf den Hohen Kasten. Wenn es möglich war, nutzten wir auch das reichhaltige und äußerst schmackhafte Angebot des Restaurants. Zum Frühstück wurden frisch zubereitete Eierspeisen nach Wunsch geboten, bemerkenswert war zudem das feine Birchermüsli. Das gesamte Personal war sehr freundlich, aufmerksam und zugewandt.
Am letzten Abend kündigte sich ein Unwetter an. Die Hagelschutzdecke, die ich über unseren kleinen Oldtimer gebunden hatte, drohte vom Sturm weggeweht zu werden. Das hatte wohl der Chef des Hauses mitbekommen, und er bot mir seinen Garagenplatz an und fuhr seinen Geschäftswagen auf den Hof. Ich wollte das zunächst nicht annehmen, aber Robert bestand darauf.
Er hat sich somit als exzellenter Botschafter dieses wunderschönen und außergewöhnlichen Schweizer Kantons erwiesen. Wir kommen wieder, versprochen.

Gemütliches Hotel mit Ausblick aufs Appenzellerland
Pros:

Habe zwei Nächte im bequemen Bett und bei offenem Fenster gut durchgeschlafen! Einfache aber stilvolle Einrichtung. Lift. Freundliches Personal. Offeriertes Getränk im Zimmer, gekühlte Getränke 24h bei der Reception erhältlich. Ausgiebiges und feines Frühstück auf der grossen gedeckten Terrasse, mit tollem Blick auf Appenzell.
Hotel liegt am Hang knapp 70 Höhenmeter über dem Ortskern. Erreichbar auf Zufahrtsstrasse für motorisierten Verkehr oder auf befestigtem und etwas steilem Fusspfad, wobei letzteres mit Gepäck oder Betagtheit etwas schwieig ist.

Fantastic Appenzell stay
Pros:

Beautiful view, very cute room. Bed was comfortable. Excellent breakfast supplied. Electric car charging available. Restaurant onsite fabulous for dinner

Cons:

It was extremely hot 36 degrees when we visited- no fan or fridge in room. This normally wouldn’t be an issue.
