Comfortable modern hotel.
Pros:

Modern hotel with spacious room, comfortable beds, good aircon, nice bathroom, nice view of trees. Very good freshly cooked breakfast served by delightful waiter. Responsive and helpful manager.

Cons:

On arrival at 9pm the staff did not speak any English. When we asked for toilet paper, as there was none in the room, they did not understand and just giggled, even when we translated into Malayalam and showed them a photo. There was no hot water in the bathroom and they told us (I understood) that it was broken.

In the morning the manager told us that there was in fact toilet paper (meant to be provided to non-Indian guests) and that there was a switch in the room to turn on the hot water. She took on board the need for better staff training and communication with English speaking guests.

There was also some noise early in the morning when a group of guests left and generally the noise insulation was poor.

Pros:

The room was big with a sitting place and separate bedroom. The room was spacious and well lit. Limited menu on site but food well prepared and delicious. Breakfast menu was simple with very limited choice but that was enough for us.We rented a cab from the hotel for city tour in the morning. We had a great trip even in the rain. Overall stay was very nice.

Decent rooms for a small town like Mattannor.

Cons:

At first even after booking online staff at reception was teling me that they have no room available when booking.com site was still showing 3 rooms available. We reached late at around 10.30 pm and had to inform him that we would move legally for compensation etc. After quite a bit of hard talk finallly he budged and to our suprise hotel had only two rooms occupied and more than ten rooms in the same floor we stayed had no guests at all. Not sure why staff behaved like that and I am reporting this serious lapse or chivalry to booking.com so that you take it up with management in proper manner. It would help others also since at odd hours at a small place like Mattannoor there are no options if you travel with family.
