Lovely old lady but pricy for what you get
Pros:

She’s an old lady is the Atholl Palace and still has a presence. She’s a lovely hotel.

Cons:

The room OK (no better) but with some maintenance and housekeeping issues.

The bathroom was tiny, crowded. There was no room to put any toiletries and the only towel rail was almost inaccessible beside the shower. The shower has much mould in it and around it. It is pretty horrible. The pump actions on the bottles of shampoo and soap have long since lost their spring and are difficult to use.

The beside lights are wall lights. Both were wonky and needed straightening and the switches were out of reach of a person in bed.

I forgive the bad maintenance of the window.

Finally, the breakfast is in a fine dining room. Sadly, it is a buffet and so the “hot” course was, at best, warm. Not a 4-star breakfast.

I say all this because this is a 4-star hotel. With 2-star room and breakfast but at full 4-star prices.

A great stay in Pitlochry, will be staying again. Modern elegance with history all around
Pros:

A great buffet breakfast, many options. Lovely bathroom, a shower AND a shower/bath. Modernised interior however still maintaining the history where needed. Loved the museum of the place, a great touch. A lot of facilities, gym, spa, pool room.

Cons:

Perhaps more professional front of house staff.

Lovely castle, comfortable room
Pros:

Gorgeous castle, spacious, beautifully decorated. comfortable, quiet and surrounded by beauty. We only stayed one night, the breakfast was fine. We enjoyed a glass of whiskey in the evening there as well, but did not have dinner.

Cons:

Nothing that I disliked, the breakfast could have been a little better maybe more variety, but was good enough.

Cottage was fab.

Cons:

The fact that the cottage was self-catering but didn't have housekeeping caught us out in that we were never told we would need to wash our towels. Surely, housekeeping should still occur at sef-catering.

We arrived to be advised that our booking could not be honoured....it was 4.30 in the afternoon. We were then advised that we could be accommodated at a sister hotel in the town. On arrival in Pitlochary, we found out that the highland games were on that weekend. Our original booking for the palace was made in July leaving either Booking.com or the Palace ample time to advise. We specifically booked the venue wanting a luxury Manor House experience, not for the town or the Highland games. Had we known the booking could not be accommodated we would have booked elsewhere.

On arrival at the sister hotel, I questioned what we would be charged and was advised by the hotel reception that they would honour the original booking price. Let's consider that for a moment.... We booked a 4 star hotel, we were accommodated in a 3 star hotel with a mildew smell emanating from the bathroom.

It is my belief that our original booking was not honoured entirely in the fact that the room could be rented for far more money than they would have been able to charge our pre booked room entirely based on the Highland games being in town.

I have raised a complaint with booking.com about the matter, however what was the most insulting aspect was the Palace receptionist attitude on arrival... She all but said " sucks to be you". Then having to pay the same amount of money for a lesser accommodation experience.

Lots of potential to be great
Pros:

Architecture, welcoming staff, cleanliness, beautiful room, beautiful gardens, decor, bar

Cons:

Gorgeous suite with upstairs lounge but all the windows upstairs and downstairs were sealed shut from the paint. So ridiculously hot!!

Breakfast staff clearly under capacity when busy. Ran out of bread sat morning, baskets were empty, coffee took 17 mins to arrive just as we were finishing up and although most of the staff were running around like loons some were getting rather tetchy and stressed. More support needed when at full capacity.

It was certainly an experience but not always a good one.

Staff in restaurants amazing very hard working but seemed to be run off their feet,not enough of them.Reception

Cons:

Reception staff unhelpful took them hours to find a tv remote control for us.No good morning or what can we do to help .

It was enjoyable in that setting was amazing and the staff were really helpful

It was very grand and in a beautiful setting and grounds. View from resultant was amazing!!

Cons:

The room allocated although for disabilities it was quite far from reception and front door. Toilets very far from main entrance to building.
En-suite was quite tired and needing refreshed, particularly Shower basin and shower. Sink was too small especially when trying to fill kettle and coffee machine.
Coffee machine stopped working after one coffee.
