Value of the money
The bulk bed
I hope this review helps people understand what to expect from someone who is notoriously picky and does not give out strong reviews easily.
I came here for a Nichiren Shoshu personal Tozan, attending Taisekiji daily, waking at 1:00 a.m. for 2:30 a.m. Gongyo, returning to rest, then going back again later. For that schedule, this hotel was perfect. The 24-hour coffee, secure six-digit code entry (used for both your room and the main door at night), easy late-night access, and true blackout shades made resting between visits effortless.
I originally booked two nights but extended two more due to a snowstorm closing roads to Tokyo. I stayed in a Double Room with Mountain View (Non-Smoking, Room 421) and an Economy Twin Room (Non-Smoking, Room 320). The Double with Mountain View is noticeably larger and much more comfortable if you have luggage or prefer space. The Economy Twin is considerably smaller once bags are opened. Choose based on your space needs. The 2nd floor is smoking; the 1st, 3rd, and 4th are non-smoking.
The amenities are exceptional for the price: 24-hour coffee, soft drinks, traditional Japanese breakfast, generous daily amenity kits (up to five per item), and a pillow selection station so you can choose your preferred thickness. The onsen-style bath is excellent—wash first at individual stations, then soak. Robes are selected near the pillow station and used throughout your stay. I used the bath daily instead of the in-room unit.
Laundry is extremely convenient (200 yen wash, free dryer, free detergent), so you can pack lighter and leave with clean clothes. With a car, the location works very well. There is a 7-Eleven next door, DAISO across the street, and restaurants within walking distance.
Overall, the value is remarkable. The level of amenities for the price far exceeds expectations. I will stay here every time I return to Taisekiji.
Two small downsides: the free parking is off-site and requires about a 3–4 minute walk, and this was not clear at booking—perfectly manageable, but noticeable in cold February weather. Also, both rooms had a slightly stale odor on arrival (possibly carpet-related), but opening the window and airing the room out fixed it.
