Cannot recommend. Unpleasant experience.
Pros:

We had dinner and it was delicious.

Cons:

Surly and unfriendly (verging on rude) staff, apart from one man who was very courteous.

We stayed in the self catering 'cottage' unit. It was fairly clean, bed comfy but not a place you'd wish to linger! Bathroom was damp, evidence of mould.

We stayed in 3 places during our trip and the Bear was the most expensive (overpriced), the most unpleasant and the one that we would not return to. We couldn't wait to leave.

Thank goodness the evening dinner was lovely but the waiting staff were so unpleasant, we decided not to eat breakfast there the next day.

Cons:

Nothing really but as the owners explained, buildings that old attract dust!
Unfortunately, bed looked lovely but was creaking with any little movement.

Love the setting and I’ll always come back it’s a bit rough and ready -bar and staff lovely

Same as last time I visited
Also cleanliness - lots of spiders dirty cutlery dirty toilet brush - needs attention to detail

Well recommended .
Pros:

We used thislocation as part of a three day walk with the dogs. The location fitted in well with our designated journey.

Exceptional service from staff and comfortable accommodation
Pros:

Staff were very attentive and kind to my disabled mother getting around inside the pub, and for this alone I would return. The cottage was small but comfortable and the view was lovely.

Cosy, quaint & relaxing.
Pros:

Great location. The pub is so quaint and lovely. The accommodation was really reasonable in price and we really enjoyed the views from the living area. Cosy and quiet.

Cons:

The bed was a bit creaky which usually wouldn’t be the end of the world but we had our baby in the travel cot in the same room so we were conscious of waking her up. Extractor fan in en suite was rattling through the night.

A real pleasure to stay at this lovely old inn.
Pros:

The location was deep in the countryside, as we’d hoped. We loved the decor, it was sophisticated, tasteful and somewhat unusual. Everything was selected with great care, complementing the venerable age of the hotel. Our room was gorgeous, aesthetically pleasing, a real pleasure to spend the night there. The restaurant food (and breakfast) was good too. The staff were friendly and helpful. Returning!
