Great building and very cleverly restored
Potential to be a fantastic place
Standard of cleaning in rooms and corridors very poor
Cobwebs in the bathroom and on stairs to room
Badly stained blind in bathroom was actually falling down
Windows so rotted I was scared of touching them in case they fell out
Beautiful setting, very comfortable, super location, helpful and pleasant staff.
Friendly staff with a great atmosphere. We loved the late night walk around the Abbey Halls.
Beautiful surroundings with lots of fabulous original features.
TV did not have signal.
Venue is superb, beautiful surroundings and very clean. Breakfast was superb
Room we had was a little small but clean and comfortable
Room was spacious and bathroom very large and well equipped. Beautiful location.
Firstly, the bed was so comfortable l didn't want to get out of it. The bathroom was stunning and so spacious. The breakfast was fantastic, plenty of choice, great coffee too !! All of the staff were friendly and professional, fantastic service in the bar and restaurant. Can't fault anything!!
I have joint problems and l found the toilet extremely low .
Large car park, easily accessible EV charging, beautiful, charming building and grounds. Interior decoration to a very high standard. Friendly, helpful staff. Superb food presentation and preparation for dinner. Pleased with room.
The bedroom was well appointed, quiet and comfortable, and the shower was brilliant.
Breakfast was very pleasant. A lady I took to be of eastern European origin was in charge and ran a very smooth, efficient operation. The food coming from the kitchen for the buffet was well presented, tasty and not over-cooked.
While touring the grounds we chanced upon a member of staff, Mike (one of the night staff), who was a great ambassador for the hotel. He wasn't on duty but he went out of his way to show us the hotel grounds and explain the arrangements. Mike is a charming, kind and caring member of the staff.
The only criticism I would offer of the bedroom is that one bedside light didn't work, and the sink's (very) hot tap turned on clockwise.
The restaurant was not having a good night. Although we had booked an arrival time the staff seemed to be overwhelmed by the number of covers. The staff were quite charming and affable but clearly lacked direction and coordination. The menu was quite short, 3 options each for the starter and main, and we chose just a simple pasta dish. It took an hour for this to arrive. The salad that I had ordered as a side dish never did turn up. The sparkling water I had requested sat on the maître’s desk for over a quarter of an hour until I asked the server to please fetch it.
The pasta dish was really excellent. To their credit, the serving staff did apologise for the missing salad.
The location and area, including gardens and the giant chess.
Reception staff were especially lovely and welcoming.
It is a pretty building.
Seals in bathroom/ shower could do with updating.
The room was very hot, even in April.
Beautiful building in a great location. Nice grounds and great staff especially Fay and Meg.
Residents bar closed at 22:45.
