Excellent break
Pros:

Thoroughly enjoyed our relaxing stay. Facilities and cleanliness of a very high standard. The history of the place added to the experience. Warm, comfortable surroundings. Staff very professional and efficient. Enjoyed our meals. Not an experience we could have regularly but hope to return in the future.

Cons:

There is a discretionary 12.5% service charge in place. It is automatically added to your food bill and you have to ask for it to be removed if you don't want to pay it. I prefer to choose whether I tip and who I give it to based on my experience.

Lovely hotel disappointing restaurant experience
Pros:

Breakfast was good. Selection of breakfast items. Although breakfast buffet items on the Tuesday were not available to select on the buffet table they had to be requested.
Staff were helpful and friendly.

Cons:

Dinner in the restaurant in the evening was of a very poor standard. I chose the beetroot starter and it was very small portion and uninteresting. I also ordered baked salmon dish which when it arrived had been poached to extreme and was inedible. I sent it back and was asked if I wanted it poached or fried. The menu had described
Bed it as baked. Anyway I went for the fried and when it arrived it was a slight improvement on the first order but a very measly portion. I noticed later that the poached salmon was available on the bar menu at £22 whereas the restaurant was £30. We did not bother with dessert.
We were booked for dinner on our second evening but cancelled due to our disappointment with the quality and cooking standard of the first evening.
We approached the reception staff member after leaving the restaurant and Guy took notes and said he would pass the issues to the Management.
On settling our account on Wednesday morning we were asked again about our stay, we told Meg of our disappointment and she was very helpful. We have stayed at Stanbrook Abbey in the past when it was not a HandPicked hotel and it was an excellent stay.
Beautiful hotel and great staff.

Beautiful old abbey in amazingly well kept grounds.
Pros:

Beautiful building and grounds. The hotel was looked after so well, everything is pristine.
We were kindly upgraded to a superior double. The bathroom was enormous with an amazing new shower and bath. Very comfortable bed, we slept very well.
We ate in the dining room and the food and service were very good.

Cons:

The room was in the attic and very warm even in February. It was obviously a problem as there was a rather ugly aircon unit in the room & a fan plugged into the wall so summer would probably be uncomfortable.

It was ok
Pros:

The property is beautiful / stunning

Cons:

For reasons I don’t need to go into ! My husband and I always have a twin room !
We were put in twin with single beds !
Suggestion would be put small double on a single bed , as everytime you moved you became uncovered and cold as single quilts just aren’t big enough ! Fine for kids but not adults
We are in the maid dinning hall , went into the bar after , could hear the kids talking ! Now I can swear with the best of them, but it’s very open space and echoey !! Could hear the language whilst sat down
And people had been eating in the bar area , and the staff kept walking past the tables with finished plates cutlery etc !
Paying what I paid , I expected more if I’m totally honest !!
I never complain , areas that just need sorting
