Staff excellent, food very good
The room was so small, so hot I couldn’t sleep, yet in the photos the room had air con, but that was misleading, was that bookings.com fault 🤔 told the staff on checkout, reply oh sorry about that!! 😡
This place is ace x
Fabulous location
The food choice was limited. Cooked Breakfast was disappointing. Pre-cooked and dry.
The architecture and grounds
Two pictures in our room were attached by gorilla tape and one fell down in the middle of the night.
The breakfast at £22.50 seemed overpriced.
I liked the location and the building was beautiful. The staff were friendly and accomdating.
My room had no AC or a fan, so in this current heat, my sleep was very uncomfortable.
I also didn't like the breakfast. the food was very bland.
Feeling of the place. Staff guaged our group really well.
Pre stay call where we spoke about our room and I could ask questions about it.
The games room and the cellar area looked awesome. Beautiful grounds. Had a gorgeous room with a balcony.
The showerhead was dusty.
Couldn't find the light switches in the games room
Lovely location in a historic building. Big comfortable bedrooms. Quality of food was good but issues with timings and service.
Staff were pleasant and friendly but they seemed to lack direction. Food on Saturday took over an hour to arrive. At breakfast some buffet items were cold and the coffee poured at the table was lukewarm.
Sadly we had to complain several times which took away our enjoyment of staying.
The hotel itself is interesting because of its history as an abbey, and the grounds are lovely. The bathroom was large, with a good-sized shower and bath. The restaurant was very nice, good service and food.
Unfortunately, due to what happened after our stay, I cannot give this hotel more than one star.
We stayed at Stanbrook Abbey Hotel for one night, from 9 to 10 May, in the Taylor room. After leaving, I realised that I had left behind my GHD cordless flat iron, which retails at around £200. I contacted reception several times and searched my own belongings thoroughly. I am certain the item was left in the room, and it has not been returned.
To be clear, I do not consider this a case of a “missing” item. From my perspective, the item was left in the room and someone must have taken it, since it was not handed in.
I also emailed the general manager directly, hoping that one final effort could be made to retrieve it, but my email was ignored. That lack of response is extremely disappointing.
When I spoke to reception, I was told that the hotel has previously had items such as Jimmy Choo shoes handed back, as though this meant it would be impossible for someone to have taken a £200 GHD cordless flat iron. I did not find that reassuring or helpful. A flat iron is a broadly desirable and easily usable item, and the fact that other items have been returned in the past does not prove that this item was not taken.
Overall, this incident and the lack of proper follow-up completely overshadowed the stay. For a hotel of this standard, and part of the Hand Picked Hotels collection, I expected much better.
Location and confortável
Service of the bar it,s not good
This is a stunning and beautiful place. They have kept the character whilst bringing in the modern. It’s spotlessly clean and so comfortable. Wonderful grounds to always around. It’s wonderful even just to walk around the building and see the character and architecture. The staff are superb. So attentive, polite and friendly. We really felt looked after. The food was lovely. And even though there were events happening, you’d barely know it. We love this place!
Going home.
This is our second stay. We had a lovely welcome on arrival. Our room was very clean, spacious with a luxury bathroom. Plenty of wardrobe space. Great to have a mini fridge. The air con could have been better as it was a hot spell of weather, maybe positioned better if possible. Maybe even a tower fan provided. The bed was very comfortable with lots of pillows. Lovely big fluffy towels. Loved the shower, great pressure. Breakfast was very good, continental was quite limited but the cooked breakfast excellent with high quality produce and very well cooked and presented. Breakfast staff were very friendly and attentive.
Nothing.
Staff were amazing, efficient and the room was cleaned to a super high standard
Nothing!
