Really freindly and helpful staff, great location with local transport but we also walked some of the way to and from the property which was nice. The fascilites and onsen were great. It had more of a freindly hostel vibe than a fancy hotel vibe which me and my sister really liked.
The onsen could probably use a refresh/refurbish but we still really enjoyed it.
We checked out less than 1 hour after checking in. The staff at the front was a bit uncaring which is unlike a Japanese hospitality. The place was a bit run down with the front entrance door and other place rotting away from water damage. We looked past all of it and try to have a good time. What really made me give up was when we realized the room with one AC was so weak it couldn’t heat up the room sufficiently for us to even take off our coats. We complained and they brought up the kerosene heater which was still not enough and with a toddler in the (yes this was mentioned in the reservation) we just couldn’t stay there. We ended up checking out less than an hour into our stay but they still charged us full for two days. When we left the reception person was saying sorry but had a slight smirk about it which really didn’t sit well with me. I would not recommend staying here unless you don’t have another choice.
It is nice if you want an authentic experience. The staff is very kind and the location is good.
The shower is only a shared shower split between men and women. The hotel has no lift so it was hard to move my luggage. There is also no general heating so the overall hotel has no common space which is warm in the winter. The booking also said the room would have a view of the mountain but the room we were given overlooked the road. We asked for a better room but they gave us another just for half the stay.
Stunning view of Fuji from room
Well connected by bus to Ropeway
Friendly staff
Traditional Japanese hotel for those who want a more authentic experience
We stayed 5 nights, we are 3 so we took a futon room for 3
It's an expensive area but it's a bit pricey (23kyen/night) for a room with no bathroom and just 2 chairs for 3. Only the tv with Chromecast was nice to have! The shared onsen was not busy, it was rather dated, basic and small but clean and functional.
supposedly with a garden and mountain view. There is no mountain view from that room 🤪
The room is in front of an intersection with a traffic light, so kind of noisy in the evening and early morning.
Also other travelers complained about the lack of signs to orient yourself in that complicated floorplan, we saw couple of signs but none are in English...
Great ryokan with very polite and helpful staff in a super beautiful area with views towards Mt Fuji. We arrived a few hours before checkin time on a very rainy day and the staff kindly moved us to another room which was ready so that we get in the room early which I found very kind and very thoughtful from their end. Also it has a beautiful onsen and the option to upgrade with breakfast which was lovely. There is local bus to the various attractions of the area and a bus stop located in 3 minutes walk from the property.
Nothing, it was a lovely and comfortable stay.
Beautiful rooms and hotel generally. Amazing to have a view of Fuji from the room when the weather cleared. Nice to have Onsen facilities in hotel for free too.
Just make sure to plan ahead for food as only breakfast is available for a cost when prebooked (it was a nice breakfast!) and nearest convenience stores / restaurants are quite a walk away - about 30mins. It’s not a problem if you plan ahead.
A beautiful location with a glimpse of the top of Fuji. The room was big enough for 4 adults and fitted out in traditional style, but modern touches. Beds on the tatami were foldable foam, not the traditional wadded cotton. The onsen was lovely and relaxing, once you are over the shared nudity us English speakers get hung up on. Despite it being the autumn the heating was sufficient to keep us warm. The host was very welcoming and explained everything to us thoroughly. We journeyed up from Odewara Station by rail to Hakone, then the bus up the winding road. Only a short walk from the bus stop to the location.
The booking was made through Booking.com and we were unaware that we could have ordered food with the booking.
Perfect location, all the best things were so close. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful.
Th staff at this hotel were amazing, specifically Sy. He offered us their in house menu for dinner, which was outstanding! He also offered to drive us back to Odawara station on the day of checkout! The room is traditional-tatami mats and futon mattresses for beds, so if you are looking for a traditional Japanese experience, this is a great place to do it! Plenty of activities in the area as well.
No in room showers, only in the Onsen. This is a tough one for prudish westerners!
The Japanese experience.
No taxis, no restaurants close are open.
In general, the hotel is quite far from Hakone, but it's in the middle of the mountains. If you are planning to hike a bit, visit Lake Ashiko or black eggs place - this hotel is in the perfect location. You can walk to lake Ashiko, next to the hotel is the Hakone bus line stop and it's near Ropeway station. The place is quite old but has really great charm. The room is cozy, had a great view, and was really traditional interior (Ryokan). The hotel also had Onsen (hot springs), not big, but quite cozy and because during our stay it wasn't crowded, so we could enjoy it a lot.
There is no food. And it's hard to understand why. I think at least it would be possible to put some vending machines with food. Of course, the best option would be to have a small kitchen, on some days it was a lot of guests, so why there is no food, is hard to understand.
Great location. Great view of Mt Fuji from hotel room. Hot spring bath was great.
Sheet was stained and hair on pillow. No food available, only vending machine.
