Updated: Disappointing stay - definitely not for relaxation

The beds were comfy.

Cons:

Our stay at this hotel, which I booked hoping for a quiet out-of-town break, unfortunately failed to live up to expectations. I would not recommend this location if your goal is to actually relax.

The room lacked basic amenities like tea or coffee, and because the nearest cafes are a 15-minute walk away, it was frustrating that the staff refused to provide any after breakfast ended at 9:00 am.

Noise was a persistent issue throughout the trip. Apart from us the hotel was filled with American college students who, while quiet after a reminder, weren't the only source of disturbance.

Things worsened on our second night during a power cut when the hotel placed a generator just three meters from our window. It was deafeningly loud and, ironically, only provided power to the spa and common areas for the student group while our room remained in the dark.

The management provided zero communication regarding the power outage and generator usage. Although an operator stated the generator would operate until 1:00 am, it apparently ran out of fuel and shut off early.

The only correspondence we received from the hotel consisted of messages asking for cash payment for the booking and inquiring about my rating, which I feel was very generous given our experience.

Ultimately, it felt as though the management cared significantly more about their money and ratings than our experience.

Loved the temazcal experience
Pros:

Loved that the hotel is super traditional and offers temazcal, a very authentic Guatemalan sauna experience. Staff were great organizing a guide for a sunrise hike up to the Mayan nose viewpoint. They were also super accommodating about having to change dates twice. Really enjoyed their typical
Guatemalan breakfast as well.

Cons:

Some may not like that it’s not right in the middle of the buzz in San Juan but for somebody who appreciates the peace and quiet, this is actually an advantage.

Good option in San Juan, but not great value for money
Pros:

Really liked the traditional breakfast. Staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms are tastefully decorated.

Cons:

I think $75/night is a fair price (as opposed to $115) and still higher than average for comparable options. The walls are thin, so we could hear other people talking and their TVs. Recommend bringing ear plugs and your own shampoo.

Great hotel in San Juan
Pros:

I loved the Temazcal and the breakfast. The vibe of the hotel is very cool. Great out of the way location in an authentic village on lake Atitlan.

Cons:

More pillows for the beds and make them softer please
