Impressive historical building in the beautiful Peak District. Very comfortable, tastefully furnished room with spotlessly clean and modern facilities. Fabulous breakfast. Friendly and helpful staff.
The only thing that bothered us was the shower. I got the hang of the basic controls eventually but the temperature fluctuated wildly between boiling hot and freezing cold. Hubby stepped in, thinking I was being an idiot but he couldn't work it either. There aren't any shops or places to eat if you're walking around the immediate area.
Lovely room and pleasant staff. The food was great.
Nothing.
Good breakfast, would of liked toast and marmalade on menu.
We really enjoyed our stay, it wasn't a problem for us at all, however being an old building there is an issue with an awful lot of condensation on window, causing puddles of water on windowsill.
Very well looked after. Beautiful rooms and great food. Excellent location
Nothing. Wish I stayed longer
Friendly staff, comfortable bed, good food
Noisy extractor fans outside our room and would have liked an option to choose fruit and cereals etc from a buffet. Was shocked that a cappuccino was an “extra” at breakfast!
Fairly regular customer at the Maynard always for lunch always excellent last visit was 2 weeks ago the lamb shank was the best I've had the staff are always efficient and friendly.
Great location, walking distance from station and walking access to lots of walking routes. Clean rooms and nice bar space and restaurant. Breakfast was lovely and great quality given it was included. Staff were friendly and very helpful. We had a lovely time.
Was hoping for a mini fridge in the room! Dinner was lovely but portion sizes were slightly small given the price.
Food was beautiful and the room was lovely
Squeaky floorboards in room and room above is kept waking us up
Lovely old property in great location
Nothing
Rooms were lovely, well thought out details like an extra heater, illuminated bathroom mirror, all electric sockets had usb slot.
It was a little “worn” in places eg paint could do with a touch up but that also added to the charm
his Grade *** Edwardian Hotel, famed for accommodating the Australian cricket team in 1938, gets its deservedly high reputation, for two main reasons, the location and its restaurant. Set in the southern part of the Peak District National Park gives visitors access to over 500 square miles of moorland, valleys, gentle hills and low mountains. All accessible from the Maynard. The nearby towns of Bakewell and Buxton are an added benefit. The restaurant is well above the three star grade and is regularly a winner of awards. The Main Menu is fixed but the choice is comprehensive and the cooking of a high standard. Gluten free is catered for at a level seldom encountered and with little loss in taste or variety. A family with coeliac members will find their needs more than adequately taken care of. The kitchen is accredited by Coeliac UK. Staff throughout are unfailingly helpful. There are only 19 rooms so service is quite personal. Some small upgrades might see the grading enhanced.
A great one night stay,a warm welcome from Abby, delicious lunch, served by Maddie. As always the atmosphere was warm and friendly, very relaxing.Dinner was very very good,a lovely starter of scotch egg, followed by beautifully cooked cod with green vegetables and creamy sauce, H had lamb shank, the meat so tender,we finished with Eton mess.Joe was our server and was splendid, Alex helped us choose the wine. After dinner a super espresso martini made by Ewan. Thanks to all and to Tarnya who always looks after us so well.
Looking forward to our next visit.
