Hotel Doña Mary Huatulco

Son dos pisos y no hay elevador ni quien te suba las maletas, usan un limpiador con demasiado aromatizante, puede ser porque algunas habitaciones tienen mal olor, quizá del baño o de colchones viejos, no tiene estacionamiento privado, el restaurante habré muy tarde para desayunar.

No había buroes al lado de la cama ni ganchos para ropa.

Small bare-bones room. Bare-bulb lighting. 3 channels on the TV. Desk clerk was a bit of a jerk. Quoted 1,000 pesos for a room listed on Booking at 552. So I booked through Booking. I didn't expect a discount, just posted rates or a little honesty, but there was neither. I use Booking all the time on the road or flying in, but when I'm standing right next to a hotel I like to give them a chance to save the commission.

There's no way in hell the room was worth 1,000 pesos. Clue in: gringo tax reveals you as untrustworthy and gets you bad reviews.

Restaurant apparently open sometimes, but not when people actually want to eat. I think they had a breakfast buffet from the smell of things, but they didn't start until 10:00 am when most people had already checked out and I never saw anyone but the restaurant staff eating.

Basically the hotel doesn't seem to give a damn whether you're there or not, except the cleaning staff, they were great.

Our room had a very strong scent from and air freshener that was overwhelming. We could not find the source but it would have been more comfortable to not have this.

The shower was cold. I knew that there would be stairs but I didn't expect so many.

No outside window, just to the corridor.

There is no really comfortable place to seat around the pool, only 2 wooden stiff benches. They could probably take part of the dining room to make space for some pool side furniture, as I never saw anyone seating there having a meal at anytime, just big empty tables.
The room itself is Ok, very basic, only 1 outlet to charge phones or tablets and its randomly situated on a wall with nothing to hold the equipment, unless you pull the only chair in the room and put in on that wall. Also, when they wash the floor, I saw them spraying the mop with a product and the smell is very offensive in the bedroom if you enter just after they have cleaned it. It was choking me, don't know what it did to my lungs, we had to open the door and the windows, even if it was 90F outside and put the fan on full blast to air the place.
Also the first 2 nights, the room in the back of us was empty but on the 3rd night, a family came around 11 pm and they made a lot of noise, talking, pushing luggage against the wall, loud TV noise. After almost one hour of that, I had to dress up and go down to the reception area to tell the clerk of the annoying guests next to us, preventing me from sleeping. It was midnight by that time and she came up to tell them to keep quiet.

Bathroom sink very small. No shelves or hooks in bathroom. Water pressure was low.
The pool was ok , but there was no place to sit around the pool.
The place was old. Room itself was well maintained, but the common areas needs a bit of TLC.
There were some reports of cockroaches and possibly bedbugs, which made us a bit apprehensive, but they seem to resolved those problems. No sightings and no bites.
