Absolutely fantastic hotel. Beautiful location, stunning views, gardens and near to city centre. Staff are outstanding. Everyone so helpful and friendly. We stayed half board and the food is the best. We cannot fault this lovely hotel. We are already booked for next year! Highly recommend.
Great quality hotel, just slightly on the edge of town (20 min walk to port - but uphill on return). Good service with very good breakfasts if staying in Superior room or above. Friendly and helpful staff.

Staff give personal and attentive service without any fuss. The food in all restaurants was excellent again with exceptional service. Highly recommend staying here.
We stayed in a top floor superior bay view room which balcony. It wasn’t cheap but well worth the extra money.
This room allowed us to have breakfast in the Michelin Star restaurant which was unexpected and an excellent way to start the day.
All the staff at the hotel were very professional, helpful and friendly.
We will definitely be going back.

We hebben meerdere dagen geprobeerd in een van de restaurants te dineren maar alles is lang vantevoren volgeboekt. Het lijkt erop dat veel gasten dit voor hun komst al boeken of een soort van half/full board hebben.
We enjoyed a perfect stay at Cliff Bay. It’s a stunning hotel, really luxurious without being at all pretentious. The service is exceptional. Our room was enormous and had the most beautiful sea view. Lovely quiet and relaxing location by the sea, but very easy walk into Funchal. We would definitely love to return!
We have just spent 4 nights at the Cliff Bay Hotel in Funchal. Everything about the hotel was perfect: attentive, friendly staff; an excellent range of great food and drinks with several different dining options. We loved the beautifully tended grounds on the different levels overlooking the sea and enjoyed the views out over Funchal Bay from our room. We stayed on a bed and breakfast package and the breakfast in the Rose Garden was superb- a great range of choices, all beautifully presented and really fresh. We ate some evening meals at the hotel and walked to some local restaurants in the area as well where we had really great food as well. Overall the hotel is a great choice if you want complete relaxation in a fantastic location with great food and accommodation.
As usual this trip was made perfect by the hotel and fabulous staff. The views are breathtaking and I would not book any other hotel
Great hotel in a great location, cannot fault it, deservedly 5* Excellent hepful and friendly staff throughout the place. Food and sevice in the restaurants is exceptional. The 30 minute walk down to Funchal is easy, and made more pleasurable by diverting through Parque de Santa Catarina and having a coffee break in its open air cafe overlooking the port. There is plenty to do and see in Funchal itself, and if you are not up to the walk back, there is an excellent bus service stopping near to the hotel costing just 2.05 euros per person. Of course you can take the bus down to Funchal if you are so inclined. There are many activities and sights to see and do throughout te island of Madeira, and the front desk are very helpful with suggestions and making arrangements for trips etc.

wunderbare Lage auf einer Klippe in der Nähe von Funchal. Sehr schön ist der Meerwasserpool und der Meerzugang über einen Aufzug erreichbar. Die Bar mit sehr guter Live-Musik hat uns auch sehr gut gefallen. Das Beste war das Frühstück im Avista Restaurant mit herrlichem Ausblick auf den Atlantik.
Hotel in beautiful location in Bay overlooking sea and Funchal. Our room was disappointing with a constant foul drains smell from the bathroom. There we many stains on the bedroom carpet. Most balconies in the hotel were good to sit and admire the view beyond. The balcony in our room was a solid cream coloured wall and when sat down you were just looking at the concrete wall. If you wanted to see the view from the balcony you needed to keep standing up.
Hotel was in a prime position with spectacular ocean and Funchal views. Clientele were general very senior which was to be expected. Hotel cleanliness was generally good but it is a bit tired in some areas (as are some of the guests) and could do with a refurb. Breakfasts were a major disappointment with both restaurants offering fairly bland options lacking in choice but also particularly tasteless. Don’t know if this is deliberate given the typical age range but we both struggled to find anything other than the basic eggs & toast. Much of the fruit at the buffet appeared to be previously frozen rather than fresh so it lacked texture & taste and the bread options were again tasteless and limited. I always look forward to a 5 star breakfast buffet but this offering was unexceptional in every way unfortunately.
Also had issue with flies in the room which entered whenever we opened the balcony door, suspect they are attracted by the plants on the balcony as I’ve never encountered this problem before
Our 3rd trip and it only gets better every time. Book a superior room and have breakfast in the excellent de’galio restaurant. The new Chef at the Rose garden has taken dining there to another level.
I cannot fault the hotel it is superb.
