Fantastic base for some riding.
Pros:

We stayed here for two nights and hired bikes to ride the 'Perfect Days' loop. Tim and his wife (whose name escapes me right now) were fantastic hosts - very friendly and helpful. The dog and the cat were great company, too. Lots of options for bikes to hire no matter the fitness level. The scenery we rode through was breathtaking - in both senses of the word. The breakfasts were fantastic and set us up for the day. They went above and beyond in helping us navigate the Japanese process when we accidentally damaged our hire car (thank God!).

Bike-touring along the Nakasendo.
Astuto house is the perfect stop. Tim can give you lots of suggestions and support if needed.
We had a very pleasant stay.

Pros:

Owner is American that married Japanese lady, so can communicate perfectly, and heart a lot of stories of the area.
Owner is very kind and drive ne to a public onsen of great quality but very low price. This obsen is only accessible by car.
Right on Nakasendo
Great value for the money

Cons:

Insufficient aircon. Feels hot until night time.

Pros:

The staff was really nice and kind, they even brought me to a local hotspring by car, otherwise it would have been an hour+ walk up a mountain, they showed me some cultural places around the area. They really invested time and effort into there guests :)
