Freedom Home Koh Chang is truly a place that lives up to its name. Nestled in a stunning natural setting, it’s a colorful, creative haven that attracts beautiful, free-spirited souls from all over the world. This was already my fifth stay—and definitely not my last. Over time, this place has become more than just a destination for me—it’s a place I truly call home.
Tommy and Mameaw are no longer just hosts; they’ve become real friends over the years. Whether it’s spontaneous late-night rides across the island with Tommy or waking up to Mameaw’s incredibly delicious homemade “breakfast” (which feels more like a feast), every moment here feels personal and unforgettable. We’ve also shared countless outings to amazing local restaurants, where Tommy and Mameaw always know the best spots on the island—resulting in delicious food, great drinks, and fun, laughter-filled evenings together.
The lush garden, filled with cozy hammocks, is the perfect spot to unwind with a coffee and simply enjoy the moment. In the evenings, the relaxed atmosphere continues with cold beers and great drinks at very fair prices, making it easy to connect with other travelers.
And then there are the two adorable dogs, Lui and Sabai, who completely stole my heart from day one. They bring so much warmth and joy—you just can’t resist them.
The rooms and bungalows are charming, comfortable, and more than fairly priced. And if you’re lucky, you might even spot monkeys in the morning while taking a shower—just one of those magical little moments that make this place so special.
Tommy’s legendary boat tours are always a highlight, offering unforgettable adventures around the island. And Mameaw’s Khao Soi? Absolutely incredible—worth every single indulgence.
Freedom Home isn’t just a place to stay—it’s a feeling, a community, and for me, a true home away from home.

Wij hadden voor 6 dagen geboekt bij Freedom Home Guesthouse. Werden hartelijk ontvangen door de baas Tommy met een biertje van het huis en een gratis upgrade: een grotere, net nieuwe kamer met badkamer: mooi en riant! Je waande je
In de jungle: veel prachtige vogels, vlinders, roepende apen, etc, prachtig. Wij ontdekten al snel een mooi heel rustig strand op 5min lopen, zonder stoelen ed naast The Tropical Beach Resort. Daar hebben we bijna dagelijks een vroege duik gemaakt en overdag geluierd in de zon, in het water en ons Thais laten masseren: een grote aanrader. De MiniMart en Mister A waren onze favoriete lunch en avond-eet plekken, heerlijke pittige Thaise schotels. Wandelen naar leuke Bang Bao Pier, "bezoekjes" aan de 7-Eleven, te gekke jam sessie met heel goede muzikanten, w.o. een didgeridoo speler, een boot/ snorkeltocht van Mr Kai Tours naar 4 eilanden, met een brommertje voorzichtig (!) naar de Klong Plu waterval, etc. En niet te vergeten: de heerlijke en zeer uitgebreide BBQ's van Ma Meaw, de grote kracht achter de schermen. De avonden in de Freedom bar vlogen ook voorbij, we kwamen veel tijd tekort! Tot gauw weer. Paul en Oda, Amsterdam

Simply amazing!
Arrived after a long 24h trip and were totally exhausted.
The host and guests immediatelly served dinner and drinks for us.
Afterwards setting together at the lovely Bar with the whole crowd and chatting with some drinks for the whole night!
What a warm welcome and pleasant stay ❤️

The beach is not far away, there are cute little bars nearby — and the bar right on the property is just perfect for relaxed evenings under the palms.

Hat uns sehr gut gefallen, einfach, aber ausreichend und familiär .
Jeden Morgen gibt es Kaffee.
Une chambre avec un lit avec moustiquaire, sanitaires et douches communs propres. Le linge sentait bon.
Les espaces communs ont tout le nécessaires avec eau potable mise à dispo.
C’est pas le luxe, mais on y a passé une nuit sans désagrément. Prix imbattable pour backpaker à petit budget.
The location is amazing and the room at first seemed great as well. The vibe here definitely is a super relaxed one.
The reason why I didn't love it is that the matrace was very uncomfortable and my room was very close to the reception and restaurant area, the rooms ar not like closed units more like tents where you can hear everything around you. So I could hear the person in the room next to me as if he was in my room. And I could hear the restaurant in the evening. Unfortunately the light was also flickering in my room
