Managed by a private host
Me and my friends booked this heritage stay when we travelled to kannur... it's away from the city centre and located in between the peaceful surroundings. The stay was homely and it has an authentic south indian touch to it...
They provided breakfast which was really good.
Staff was also friendly.
The owner Vikas he was very friendly and He provided us all the information regarding which places to visit.
Overall experience at this stay was really good
Sukun – A Traditional Homestay True to Its Name
As the name suggests, Sukun truly gave me a sense of peace and relaxation. Although I am from Kerala, I had never experienced the authentic beauty of living in a traditional tharavadu that reflects the proud history and heritage of our ancestors.
The moment I entered Sukun, the beautiful two-storey house surrounded by lush greenery instantly reminded me of the grand palace portrayed in the famous movie Manichithrathazhu. The clean courtyard with a mango tree, the open balconies and sit-outs, the soothing sound of birds chirping, and the warm, welcoming nature of the caretaker Shyam made the entire experience feel like a dream come true.
The most special part of my stay was meeting Ammu Aunty, the owner of Sukun. Her warmth, love, and hospitality reminded me deeply of my late mother, and I still carry that feeling with me.
I must also mention the incredible support from Mr. Vikas, the owner of Sukun. From the moment I booked my stay until the day I left, he ensured that every question and request was taken care of. Whether it was guidance about transportation, arranging cabs, suggesting beauty parlours and restaurants, planning sightseeing, or even sharing information about possible Theyyam performances nearby—he made sure my trip was smooth and enjoyable. Even though he was in Hyderabad and not physically present at Sukun, he managed everything perfectly and made my stay truly memorable. He has certainly raised the bar and set a new standard for hospitality.
Caretaker Shyam also deserves special appreciation. He is extremely kind, humble, friendly, and always ready to help guests at any time. His dedication is truly commendable.
They also served authentic, traditional homemade food (breakfast)that truly tasted like heaven and added so much warmth to the entire experience.
All in all, the beautiful Sukun Tharavadu gave me exactly what its name promises—sukun: peace, serenity, and inner calm—during my stay in Kannur.
Staying at the old heritage property felt like stepping back into the 90s in the most beautiful way. The warmth and love given to us by the owner’s mom before our checkout made everything feel so personal and heartfelt. The place was super clean and thoughtfully maintained, preserving its old-world charm. We felt completely at home. Our pet Zoe was the happiest of all, joyfully running around and soaking in every moment. And the breakfast was absolutely amazing.
Honestly, there wasn’t a single thing we disliked, everything about our stay was wonderful.
Casa bellissima e famiglia simpaticissima,
Lontano dal caos della città con vicino a 10 Min a piedi un ristorante buono sai bar.
Sono stati molto gentili ad essere flessibili con il checkout.
Everything here is perfect and , beautiful heritage stay , very neat and clean , hospitality is great
Nothing
Everything was perfect !! The best welcome we have ever had :)
Nothing
The serene calm and the nostalgic experience of staying in my ancestral home. The breakfast was great.
Nothing much.
The feel of real Kerala and home made food full of love.
The outward appearance was interesting.
Wi-Fi connection was extremely poor. No toiletries were provided. Towels were not provided, only one towel for a room with two people. There were no glasses/cups in the room, these needed to be requested separately. There was no tea/coffee packets in the room, though an electric kettle was provided. Bathrooms had no shelves. It makes no sense to ask guests to remove their footwear outside while the mat in the rooms were filthy. The ceiling fan upstairs was very loud.
Hospitality ambience
Lovely rustic house. It’s in a quiet location but near to the main city. The whole house is beautiful and the caretaker Narey was excellent. The breakfast included in the price was lovely home cooked food. I would recommend staying here as it’s somewhere peaceful and different and great value for money. I was driving through and needed a room for the night, this place was perfect to get some rest.
Its great experience of authentic home experience and ammu man was wonderful human being you will sure visit agin for her songs and words she makes you feel like home must stay ag kannur if want to feel like home in 90/80s golded days ❤️
Vintage Kerala house...spacious, serene, extremely helpful owners who provide you with all kinds of guidance for your stay and travel
Good breakfast, personal service, lots of good information about the area. Access to taxis and other forms of transport. Very quiet . Shoot out to Vikas who was great with offering tips for sightseeing and visit to temples and museums.
Felt safe.
All good.
I had booked a room in this property after going through the reviews of old customers. Things were entirely different when I reached the property. On arrival I was greeted by Bhajan songs and prayers of some 20 to 25 ladies. Being a heritage building, everything was old. Bedsheets and bath towels were of nylon material and were worn out. Towels don't absorb water. My booking included breakfast and I waited till 9 AM for breakfast to arrive and finally had to go outside and have it. It's brought from outside as per the owner. My overall experience was not good.
Bedsheets and bath towels. No breakfast was provided.
