Staying at this homestay was easily one of the highlights of my time in Sri Lanka. If you’re looking for a genuine cultural experience rather than just a place to sleep, this is exactly where you want to be.

The host, Ruwan, is what truly makes this place special. He is incredibly kind, open, and genuinely interested in connecting with his guests. He shares fascinating stories about Sri Lankan culture and daily life, giving you insights you simply wouldn’t get anywhere else. His English is excellent, so conversations flow easily, and you can ask him anything. He’s one of those rare people who makes you feel immediately comfortable while also being deeply interesting to talk to.

The property itself is beautiful and very well maintained. Everything feels new and clean. The view over the surrounding rice fields is stunning—peaceful, green, and completely calming. Knowing that all of this land belongs to Ruwan adds another layer to the experience, especially when he explains what is being grown around you.

One of the standout aspects is the food. Both breakfast and dinner are prepared using ingredients straight from his own garden. You’re not just eating—you’re learning. Ruwan explains what you’re having, where it comes from, and how it fits into local cuisine. The dishes are authentic, fresh, and incredibly tasty. It feels like a true farm-to-table experience, but in a very personal and homely setting.

I would highly recommend this homestay to anyone who wants a real, immersive experience of Sri Lankan culture while still enjoying comfort and quality. It’s also a great base if you want to explore the area, but honestly, just spending time here is already worth it.

Nous avons passé un moment incroyable dans cette home stay ! L'accueil a été exceptionnel. La balade et la découverte de la ferme voisine avec Ruwan ont été une expérience enrichissante et authentique. Les conseils pour visiter les alentours étaient très appréciés et nous ont permis de découvrir des trésors cachés.
Le dîner, préparé avec des produits du jardin, était tout simplement délicieux et a ajouté une touche locale à notre séjour. Une très belle chambre avec une vue magnifique, offre un cadre paisible et confortable.
Sans hésiter, nous reviendrons si nous avons l'occasion de revenir au Sri Lanka. Un grand merci pour tout !

Top notch, just for the room window view, it's fantastic, you get to see the sunrise in the fields from your bed, i mean, what else do you need ? A good bed, a great dinner, a great breakfast, and the hosts were so nice. I'll definetely come back!

Nous avons passé deux nuits dans cette guesthouse et l’accueil a été exceptionnel dès la première minute. Le propriétaire nous a reçus avec une chaleur et une sincérité rares.

La chambre était spacieuse et propre, avec de grandes baies vitrées offrant une vue magnifique sur les rizières et la montagne. Se réveiller avec ce paysage chaque matin était un vrai privilège.

Mention toute particulière pour le matelas : il était parfait. Cela peut sembler anodin, mais après plusieurs hébergements où les matelas étaient beaucoup trop durs, cela a fait toute la différence. Nous avons enfin passé des nuits réellement reposantes. Honnêtement, rien que pour ce confort, nous serions restés plus longtemps si notre programme ne nous obligeait pas à partir.

Nous avons également dîné sur place les deux soirs. Les plats étaient excellents, authentiques, préparés avec des produits frais provenant de la propriété. Ce fut une vraie découverte de spécialités locales. Même qualité et même générosité pour le petit déjeuner.

Au-delà du lieu, ce sont surtout les échanges qui ont marqué notre séjour. Nous avons beaucoup appris sur la culture locale à travers nos discussions. Cette expérience a été bien plus qu’un simple hébergement : une véritable rencontre.

Un immense merci à Ruyan pour son hospitalité et sa grande gentillesse. Nous recommandons cet endroit sans hésiter, les yeux fermés.

Gastgeber war sehr freundlich, wir haben uns die ganze Zeit sehr wohl gefühlt. Er hat uns sein Land gezeigt und abends selbst gekochtes Essen aus seinem Garten serviert. 👍

Ruwan is the friendliest, most helpful and interested host we have met during our entire trip. Took great care of our 8-month old baby. Truly unbelievable hospitality. The room was better than we had hoped; the giant east-facing glass wall permits awesome sun rise viewing from your bed. Thank you thank you!

Ruwan und seine Familie war unglaublich gastfreundlich. Wir haben einen tollen Kochkurs gemacht, wobei die Messer unglaublich scharf waren 😉 auf Nachfrage haben wir das Essen auch auf "nicht-europäisch-scharf" gekocht und es war vorzüglich. Die Portionen waren mehr als reichlich und Ruwan hat sich mega um uns gekümmert und viele Tipps gegeben. Selbst als wir abgereist waren, hat er sich um unser Wohlbefinden gekümmert. Wir würden jederzeit wiederkommen 😊

No tenemos palabras para describir nuestra estancia, a pesar de ser solo de 1 noche para continuar nuestra ruta.
El lugar es maravilloso, se respira pura paz y libre de cualquier estrés o bullicio de la ciudad. Con unas vistas desde la habitación a los campos de arroz impresionantes e inmejorables! Estás rodeado de pura naturaleza, a nosotros eso nos encanta y nos hace muy felices. Te acompaña y te explica sus plantaciones en una pequeña ruta muy agradable.
Además, Ruwan y su familia son encantadores, se preocuparon en todo momento por nosotros y por hacernos feliz. Incluso mi pareja se encontraba algo indispuesta del estómago y buscó para ir a comprar algo de medicación, que no nos dejaron pagar.
Y por si no fuese poco, al irnos nos dieron un pequeño regalo que nos ha hecho inmensamente felices, me he ido de este lugar muy emocionada.

We had a lovely time with our very welcoming and accommodating host. He gave us a wonderful tour of the area and his incredible gardens. The view was fantastic, there was an abundance of bird life and the meals (dinner and breakfast) were fresh and flavourful. The room was clean and comfortable.

Ridge Boundary View: boven het verblijf van de eigenaren worden 2 riante kamers met eigen badkamers verhuur. Je hebt een fantastisch uitzocht op de 5 Knuckles. Het is er super rustig, heerlijk! En dat op maar 10 min. rijden van het drukke, chaotische Dambulla.
Na aankomst konden we de huurauto parkeren in de schaduw in de tuin van de eigenaar. Alles ziet er netjes uit.
Dan loop je de trap op en kom je op een groot, overdekt terras met een grote tafel en 4 stoelen.
Daarna loop je naar de gehuurde kamer, je doet de deur op en.... WOW wat een fantastisch uitzicht op de 5 Knuckles door die grote ramen in de slaapkamer. De slaapkamer is heel ruim, met een prima bed, met airco, ventilator en kofie- en theefaciliteiten. en superschoon. En wat een rust, heerlijk.
Naast de grote slaapkamer is een flinke badkamer, met douche, wc, wastafel. Alles ziet er schoon uit.
Ook heeft de slaapkamer een klein balkon, met natuurlijk ook dat fantastische uitzicht.
Op het terras hebben we lekker gepraat met de vriendelijke eigenaar. Hij en zijn vrouw hebben een heerlijk diner voor ons gekookt. Hij zei dat ze nog nooit zo gekookt hadden, alleen groenten zonder kruiden voor mij ivm knoflookallergie. Mss niet te eten volgens hun, we hebben er samen hartelijk om gelachen.
Ook het ontbijt was erg lekker.
We hebben tijd gemaakt om 's morgens met de eigenaar een uurtje over zijn terrein en dat van een buurman te lopen. Aanrader!
Hij vertelde heel enthousiast over allerlei bomen op zijn terrein, 3 soorten bananen, 3 soorten mango's, verschillende soorten tomaten, nog meer groenten etc. er schijnen ook heel veel bijzondere vogels te leven. Was heel erg interessant.
Dit ruime gastenvervlijf ligt op maar 10 min. rijden van het drukke, toeristische, chaotische Dambulla. Ik zou zeggen: rij maar 10 min. verder en je belandt in een oase van rust mét prachtig uitzicht.

Ruwan ist ein toller Gastgeber! Wir haben so tolle Sachen zum Dinner gegessen. Er hat Currys mit Gemüse von der Farm serviert, das wir vorher noch nie gehört haben. Es war köstlich! Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt. Die Ruhe war einfach nur herrlich. 😍

Bellissima la visita dalla camera. L`ospitalità di Ruwan è indescrivibile, super accogliente sa metterti a proprio agio facendoti sentire a casa propria.

Staying at Ruwan and his family’s homestay south of Dambulla was wonderful. We felt so warmly welcomed from the start, like being invited into their home.

The room was spacious, clean and tastefully designed without being cluttered (also appreciate the thoughtful storage racks and space for our stuff!).

Waking up to sunrise over the mountains with birds chirping was magic. We loved being surrounded by nature - morning walks spotting monkeys, fruit trees and birds right outside - yet it was only a short ride into the city and nearby sites. It's a great base for exploring key attractions.

Breakfast and dinner (optional) were excellent every day, made with produce from their own farm, so we really got local cuisine. We booked 3 nights but ended up staying 8, because we simply didn’t want to leave.

11 out of 10 stars for Ruwan and family - we couldn’t recommend their homestay more!

Ruwan is an amazing host. This place is one of the top experiences we have done in Sri Lanka. We did the tour of the farm and we chat with Ruwan for hours. He explained us so many things about Sri Lanka and his farm. Also dinner was one of the best we had during our 2 weeks.

El alojamiento tiene una vistas muy bonitas, la habitación estaba limpia y Ruwan el dueño siempre estuvo muy atento y nos ayudo con todo. Muy buena experiencia

The stunning view, the peaceful location and kind host. We had an amazing dinner and the next morning the host took us on a tour through the property and explained about living, plants, harvest at the country site. One of the highlights of our month in Sri Lanka. Our teenagers loved it and wanted to stay longer, so hopefully we will come back some day!

Accoglienza dell'host. Vista dalla camera e accoglienza. Ruwan è la vera anima della casa , felice di accoglierti e di mostrarti i suoi campi e i prodotti della sua terra. Si può anche cenare in un'atmosfera rilassata.. toccasana arrivando direttamente dall' aeroporto dopo due voli.. si respira subito l'anima di questa terra

A me e al mio compagno Claudio è piaciuto tutto. È stato un soggiorno perfetto, la casa immersa nella natura, tra frutteti e distese di campi. Una vista spettacolare, sia dalla camera (dalla quale abbiamo ammirato l'alba) sia dal terrazzino utilizzato per i pasti. L'host Ruwan è una persona veramente gentile e disponibile, pronta a darti consigli sinceri e a parlarti dello Sri Lanka con il cuore, facendotene innamorare ancora di più. Cibo buonissimo, camera pulita, spaziosa, dotata di aria condizionata, letto molto comodo. Quando torneremo in Sri Lanka, sicuramente passeremo da lui! Elisa e Claudio
