Hiriketiya beach is in the vicinity. The host was very helpful in making our stay a wonderful one.
He arranged us a scooty for rent. Gave tips about the locations we were planning to visit.

We loved the fact lady was very welcoming and very helpful with regards to our stay. Offered a laundry service which we used and was very good 600lkr per 1kg
We didn’t like the fact we seen, and could hear rats crawling round in the ceiling above our room it was very disturbing. The home stay had a noticeable bathroom smell as soon as you came out of the front door.

De muur kwam niet volledig tot het dak. Hierdoor kwamen er super veel beesten in onze kamer. De badkamer was vies. Toen wij aankwamen was de kamer nog niet klaar en moesten wij nog een uur wachten.

Chambre propre, mais ne pas être demandeur de confort : seulement le strict minimum, lit / lavabo / WC et douche ouverte dans la salle de bain (eau froide)

It doesn’t cost 30$ per night for what it is… Max 18-20$ and just because of the A/C… but that’s it. The room is small and a bit old:(
The location of the house is far from the center of Hiri even tho they have a tuk-tuk to drive you wherever. Depending if you like being in the center or a bit more quite and far. We didn’t mind about this. But it’s a BEAUTIFUL spot tho! The garden and the outside of the house is so nice! It’s in a quiter area. And the lady is so lovely too :)

The shed where we slept has a lot of potential but it’s still a shed. The owner said he will invest in it and improve it during the low season.
This homestay is a dream for anyone who loves nature! The huge garden and green terrace, with towering palms and the soothing sound of the ocean, create an incredibly peaceful atmosphere. Peacocks and monkeys visit the garden, making it feel like a little wildlife sanctuary—just amazing!
We stayed in a separate small house with an own terrace. The room was very basic (don’t expect much!), with a simple bathroom, but it had everything we needed: powerful standing fan and a mosquito net. Honestly, you’ll spend most of your time outdoors anyway, and the surroundings are absolutely stunning. 2 min walk to the cliff with the stunning view of the ocean! At night, fireflies create a magical glow—you can even watch them from your bed!
The three adorable and well-trained dogs added to the charm, and the kind family running the place made us feel so welcome.
Breakfast isn’t included, but the Freedom Café—a very good restaurant—is just around the corner.
If you’re looking for a peaceful, nature-filled stay a bit away from the busy main beach but still close enough to it with pure Sri Lankan charm, this is the perfect place!
Not complaining, just a few points to acknowledge:
The fan was a bit loud—not a problem for us, but bring earplugs just in case!
Breakfast is not included, but Freedom Café—a very good restaurant—is just around the corner, along with many other nearby options!
You’ll need a torch at night! It gets quite dark on the way, but the one on your mobile will do just fine.

Tehan’s was in a super location overlooking the ocean. It was lovely and quiet and Tehan and his family and dogs are great. Room’s are adequate and priced right.

I stayed with a lovely family at a guesthouse, and it was such a wonderful experience. The dogs are incredibly cute and sweet, and the owner is such a kind woman. The room was clean, and having air conditioning was a huge bonus, especially in the warm weather.
Since it’s a guesthouse, you’re staying in their home, and it’s a glimpse into their life, so don’t expect a hotel room. But considering the price, it’s an excellent value for what you get. The location is perfect, just a short walk from the beach, and the view of the sea and sunset is absolutely beautiful.
