Binara Home Stay

Hele leuke eigenaar die graag mee denkt en altijd beschikbaar is via whatsapp. De Kamer is simpel maar perfect. Ik verbleef 2 nachtjes en de dag dat ik aankwam stelde hij voor dat ik een boottochtje kon doen op het meer met de zonsondergang en naar het vogeleiland. Het was een stel dat dat organiseerde en ondanks de taalbarrière vertelde hij de namen van de vogels en ik heb een wilde olifant op het eilandje gezien die daar soms komen wassen!! Ook kreeg ik en lekker kopje thee met een snack!
De 2e dag mocht ik een fiets lenen en ben ik door de Ancient City gefietst. Je kan ook een brommer of tuktuk huren maar ik vond ene fiets wel even lekker.
Vanaf het hostel is alles net te ver om te lopen dus met de fiets ben ik ook naar het meer gegaan en naar het stadje om daar avond te eten.
Overal hele leuke plek!

A very lovely place to stay. We had a wonderful time in Polonnaruwa. Binara is really friendly and helpful; he gave us a lot of advice on where to go and what to do. He recommended a bird-watching canoe tour with a local fisherman, which was a unique experience. Good service, a beautiful house, and great value

Alles, vriendelijkheid

De eigenaar en zijn familie zijn top! De tuin is geweldig, met een leuke ‘coffeeshop’.
De ligging net buiten het centrum is ideaal. Het is er rustig en toch ben je met een kwartiertje in de stad. De vaste Tuktuk chauffeur is heel vriendelijk en behulpzaam.
Het aangenaam verblijven hier. Een aanrader.

Wir haben hier zwei Nächte geschlafen und wurden sehr herzlich aufgenommen. Der Balkon mit Blick in den schönen Garten ist grandios. Dort haben wir auch zu Abend gegessen: Ein drei Gänge Menü mit Reis-Curry als Hauptgericht. Besonders die kleinen Kartoffeln aus dem eigenen Garten waren sehr lecker. Um die Ruinen zu besichtigen, konnten wir Fahrräder ausleihen, was sehr praktisch war. Ansonsten haben wir viele hilfreiche Tipps bekommen. Darunter eine Safari, die wir zum Abschluss unternommen haben. Der Guide war ausgezeichnet und wir haben sehr viele Elefanten aus nächster Nähe und einige interessante Vögel Sri Lankas gesehen. Absolut empfehlenswert.

A great stay, very friendly host (husband and wife) who ran the hostel, paid extra for breakfast but it was really worth it. Rent a bike to explore Polonnaruwa. Single room i booked was not the best one, there are better ones with double bed on 2nd floor, but it was more than OK for me.

A szálláshely egy szép és nyugodt környezetben volt, hatalmas ősfákkal körbevéve. A szállástól 10 perc sétára található egy nagyobb tó, ahol sétálni lehet és csodálatos a naplemente. A szobám tágas volt, amihez egy nagy méretű terasz is csatlakozott. Az ágy kényelmes és a szoba tiszta volt. A közeli folyosóról nyílt a fürdőszoba. A zuhanyzónak nagy víz nyomása volt így kellemes volt a fürdés. A szállást adó család kedves és barátságos volt. A reggelik finomak voltak. Ajánlom ezt a szállást, nagyon jó ár/értékűek a szobák!

Un hotel con un dueño muy muy amable. Muy preocupado en todo momento por que estuvieramos bien. Solo pasamos una noche y para nosotras todo estuvo bien, nos organizo el alquiler de bicis para poder ver Polonnaruwa.

Excellent accueil de la part de Binara. Il parle très bien l'Anglais, il est prévenant et prend vraiment le temps de vous renseigner. On peut utiliser un petit frigo. La chambre était propre, la terrasse au 1er agréable. Le petit déjeuner était copieux.
La ville est à environ 1 km par la route principale. On peut aussi marcher le long du lac pour la rejoindre.
Très bien placé pour acheter les billets d'entrée pour le site archéologique.

Very attentive host, who goes out of his way to make your stay comfortable and help you organise your trip. Very generous serving for breakfast, beautiful rooms overlooking a lovely shared cafe in the jungle. Would recommend

A Hidden Gem in the Heart of Polonnaruwa!

Staying at Binara Homestay was an absolute delight from start to finish. The room and bathroom were impeccably clean—spotless, fresh, and clearly maintained with great care. The attention to detail made it feel like a true home away from home.

The lush garden surrounding the homestay is a peaceful oasis, perfect for relaxing with a cup of tea after a day of exploring. The hosts were incredibly warm and welcoming, always ready with a smile and helpful tips about the area. Their hospitality made our stay even more memorable.

One of the highlights was the easy access to the nearby lake—just a short 5–10 minute walk away. We caught the sunset, and it was nothing short of magical. The golden light reflecting off the water, framed by nature, was the perfect way to end the day.

Location-wise, Binara Homestay couldn’t be better. It’s just minutes from the main historical sites of Polonnaruwa, making it super convenient for sightseeing without the hassle of long travel.

Perfectly located to explore the ancient city of Polonnuwara. Binara provides a welcoming and friendly service with delicious breakfast. The shower was very warm and it a peaceful and quiet neighbourhood. Binara was helpful with organising a tuk driver for our tour of the ancient city and recommended an excellent safair through Kurulu Eco Park.
