Misleading, Dirty and Damaged

The property was very inaccurate to the listing it is clear the photos must have been taken years ago. I also believe naming the property “Ottawa Downtown Suites” is a tactic to present the unit as an hotel suite or a well kept condo a the bare minimum.

Upon arriving, the door handle fell off. This happened multiple times during our stay. Despite being told we could not check in early because the property owner had to “clean” the residence prior to our arrival, we found this to be extremely disappointing due to the uncleanliness of the unit. The couch was very dirty, damaged, and missing cushions. It was not suitable for a sleeping area. The flooring is atrocious. There are gaps and holes and ripped floor boards throughout the entire unit unlike in the photos. There is water damage and poor maintenance in the bathroom. There was also no hand soap provided in the bathroom. The upon arrival there were dishes and utensils poorly cleaned on the counter. There bathroom door appears to have a hole kicked into the back of it. The closet door in the main bedroom is broken off the track providing issues when trying to access the closet and the rugs look like they have never been washed. The living room walls are covered in cobwebs and dust along with dirt and filth along the baseboards throughout the unit. The single bed in the bedroom is very creaky and the neighbours upstairs can be heard throughout the night.

Overall I am disappointment in the general lack of cleanliness of this unit. My family and I felt uncomfortable to even shower. I tried to request a refund with the property owner who declined and said I already “agreed to stay there”. From there I complained to booking.com, not only for my stay but for awareness to others that the listing is inaccurate to the reservation expectation. If you are a student looking for a place to crash after a party, this could be suitable. But unfortunately it is not suited for a comfortable and clean family stay.

We didn’t end up staying because the unit was not as advertised and the smell was so bad we couldn’t possibly stay. Diss
Pros:

The only good thing was the location and the fact that they had a washer and dryer.

Cons:

The unit smelled like heavy marijuana use. The linens had mystery stains all over them. There were cigarette holes and stains on the couch as well as crusty dishes in the kitchen indicating to us that it was not thoroughly cleaned. The bathroom had a large stain on the wall (probably water damage) as well as holes in the door. When trying to contact the host, she did not answer and would not refund us.
