Empress House

The owner was unfriendly and unhelpful in the chat. He also refused to answer whether he had received the payment for the booking. He didn't contact us for many days (more than a week) to resolve the issue in a friendly and civil manner.

I think the owner was hoping I'd press the wrong button and cancel the accommodation on my own. The cancellation policy is such that he can keep all the money. I didn't do him that favor. So at least I got my money back from booking.com.

Accommodation has been cancelled few hours before check-in by property.
They promised full refund but never paid .
Avoid!!!

I booked a studio and ended up with a room on a floor with other occupied bedrooms, sharing a bathroom and toilet! Property is dirty and not well kept. Communication with the property was bad at best, as my query remains unanswered and they did not respond clearly. The location is not the nicest, and although I paid to park in Asda car park just to be sure I covered parking in case there was none, Asda parking was too far away to use (my fault, however worth mentioning in case anyone else tries this) I worried about my car being parked in this area, so only stayed one night out of three and cancelled other two due to this and the poor living conditions and area/location. Would not recommend. Angry that this is non-refundable, as it was not as advertised.

Everything else

The place was filthy. The kitchen was not fit for purpose, the bathroom was dirty with the face basin clogged and filled with dirty water. The bedroom was dusty and dirty/

Few stains on carpet and walls. Dusty skirting boards needed to hoover the edges, smeared mirror looked like it had been cleaned with a dirty cloth. Found cigarette papers and ring pull from a drink in drawer. More care needed in toilet and shower room

The manager was rude, i was locked out my room and then he shifted the blame on me for “locking a fire door” which i have no key or key code for then when i asked him to compensate he said no and ended the phone on my face

The area was noisy and the room and bathroom were not clean. The toilet seat was broken and the shower didn’t have hot water or water pressure. The drain was blocked too so it was impossible to shower and the property manager was unable to offer me an alternative bathroom or suggest whether they could fix it. I was told to find alternative accommodation myself! Would not recommend this place.

It was unclean. The bathroom had not had a deep clean in a very long time. The toilet definitely had not been cleaned properly as there was urine on the underside of the seat. There was no mat to stop you slipping on the floor and no hand towel. There are no facilities. We had a chair with 3 legs, a cracked, dirty mirror and no body wash/soap in the shower. No tea/coffee making facilities
