Very atmospheric, historic, comfortable, welcoming
Pros:

Wonderful building, lovely staff. LOTS of history- remains of an unexcavated Roman fort next door, views of Scotland and just far enough out of town to be peaceful. Glorious grounds.

We enjoyed a perfect overnight stay in this beautiful hotel with very welcoming and attentive staff.
Pros:

The hosts at the hotel went above and beyond to make sure that our 1 night trip for my birthday felt very special even though they were busy with a wedding party and being fully booked for Sunday lunch the following day. Our dog was pampered just as much as we were. The little doggie doing meet and greet at reception was adorable. The food was excellent (we had dinner and breakfast). The room was warm, clean and comfortable with all the extras you would need.

Cons:

It was a bit confusing on arrival as the entrance is quite narrow but inkeeping with the beautiful, historic building. However, we were advised to go to the car park for deliveries which was perfect.
