Pros:

Room was big & clean and staff were helpful and friendly. AC in room. Location was okay ish. Walked to the main tourist attractions.

Cons:

Very close to the Tenderloin so homeless presence was very noticeable. Wouldn't recommend walking around the area after sunset. But for a 2 day stay it was okay. Would choose a different area next time.

If you're okay with sleeping in a dorm, go for it.
Cons:

The staff was strange and confused all the time, they change a lot and each one is stranger than the other. They forget who you are in seconds, forget what they promised you and what they told you, don't expect to ask for something and get it.. The elevator didn't work and we were on the 2nd floor, they helped with the big suitcases but it was really unpleasant.
They don't clean the rooms every day, the toilets are very crowded, there is no shelf in the shower which made it very difficult. It feels a bit like sleeping in a student dorm because there was noise all the time from the floor above. You can hear the maids outside as if they were inside the room, we couldn't sleep because of that.

NO WORKING ELEVATOR
Pros:

Upon checking in at 9pm we were informed that the hotel does not have a functioning elevator and the lowest floor available was the 6th floor. The staff graciously assisted with our luggage but we still had to hike to the 6th floor multiple times per day for several days.. even to get ice on the first floor. I was told the parts to fix the very old elevator won’t come in for a few months and a full repair date cannot be predicted.

I booked the room three weeks in advance, directly through the website.

The hotel restaurant/ bar is open if and when they had one of two employees were present as they had recently laid everyone else off.

No refrigerator in rooms to store food or drinks. No microwave, and 2 k-cups to make bad coffee with powdered creamer.

The staff was very nice and I very much wanted to love this hotel, but I would not stay here again.

Had less able family members been with us, per usual, we would have really scrambled late at night to find proper accommodations.

It was also very loud around our room starting at 6am while housekeeping was servicing every room around us.

After 4 nights we moved to another hotel - one block from union square, with much better accommodations for the same price. (Booked through AirB&B.)

A Dump, with an attitude
Pros:

This place is probably an upgrade... from sleeping in a shelter.
The only difference is clean sheets.

Had I known when I booked it, I never would have gone there.
For starters, when we arrived they told us the elevator was not working. As we were in a handicap room on the 5th floor, this was going to be a problem.
When I asked when it would be repaired, they said sometime in the next few months. Turns out, it has been broken for a few months... yet they NEVER DISCLOSED THIS ON THEIR WEBSITE OR ON PRICELINE.

The offered a full refund and told us we can go find another hotel...
Right, last minute on one of the cities busiest weekends.

The staff was rude and condensending (If they read this they will probably have to look up this word).

They did carry up our bags, but my wife recently had a hip replacement and up and down 5 flights of stairs is not really recommended.

BTW - isnt this against the law.
They should be shut down.

The "security" was a joke.
Sound asleep at 1AM.
No one at the desk.
"Come on in and rob our guests... anytime you like"!

The bar and restaurand was closed on Saturday night, because the bartender did not show up!
They only have 1 person working there?

I thought I was staying at a cute, botique hotel, but I was staying at a flop house.

Pros:

The only elevator has been out for quite sometime now. This should be posted for potential guest before they book.

What on earth do they do if they have a disabled guest?

What is tacky about this is that the elevator has been out for SEVERAL WEEKS!!!

What is the hold up with the repair?

Secondly--the was no bar or restaurant service in the evening?!!

I booked a 3 star property and got 2 star level.

Not cool!

And $35 glass of champagne?!!!

Avoid this place.

Maintenance and housekeeping was good--that's it!

Pros:

I stayed at Hotel Julian recently and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience. From the moment we arrived, things went downhill. The elevator was out of service during our entire stay, and our room was on the fifth floor. We were offered help with our luggage, but no one ever actually came to assist, so we ended up carrying everything up multiple flights of stairs ourselves.

We had also made dinner reservations in advance at Carlotta’s, the hotel’s restaurant, for our anniversary. No one contacted us to let us know that the restaurant decided not to open the kitchen that night. When we showed up for our reservation, we were casually told the kitchen was closed because “the bartender didn’t show up.” It was unprofessional and completely ruined our dinner plans.

Our room wasn’t much better. The floors were visibly dirty, and it was clear that the area around the sink hadn’t been cleaned. there was grime on the counter and it looked like it hadn’t been wiped at all. Between that and having to go up and down five flights of stairs every time we left the room, it was honestly exhausting and frustrating.

Overall, this hotel did not deliver a quality experience, especially given that we booked specifically to celebrate a special occasion. Poor communication, lack of cleanliness, and no effort to make things right made this stay extremely disappointing. I wouldn’t recommend staying here unless major improvements are made in customer service and maintenance.
