We had a great stay at Gopuram Residency as a family of 3 including a 9 year old. Our friends, a couple, also had a great stay in their room. It is great quality for the price compared to other comparable hotels in India. The bathroom was clean enough for Western comfort and included toilet paper, soaps, and fresh towels., The A/C and fan were champions even in 40°C days. The beds and linens were comfortable and clean. There is no view from windows. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The location cannot be beat immediately next to the West Temple entrance and on a road mercifully free of cars, tuktuk, and scooters. We would stay here again.
Perfect stay for family. Right beside temple. Opposite to west gate.
Important point-
Cabs are not allowed till hotel due to restrictions around temple zone. One have to walk 200m to catch taxi
Food-
They don’t have anything in-house. But staff is good enough to bring food from outside.
Pros:
Located bang on the temple street near the west gopuram. Walkable distance to the temple from here.
New property, the rooms were spacious and clean.
Cons:
No Parking, not accessible by vehicles., since it’s located almost outside the temple premises.
We had a tough time locating hotel and carrying all our baggages to and fro.
No nearby hotels/ restaurants.
Stayed here on April 9th 2022 for overnight stay to visit the Madurai temple..
The hotel is newly built and must be owned by a local politician...
- Rooms are very small - you cannot even freely move inside the room
- Rooms have no windows...you feel like living inside a locker room
- Absolutely NO customer service
- No decent restaurant near by...need to walk at least one km even for a cup of coffee
- No coffee service in the hotel or no kettle int eh room for self prep
- Washrooms are so small....only a pet can take shower...no human can use this
- Rooms are so close and knitted together...that it is very noisy...can make you sleepless
- It is in a narrow lane opposite to the West tower of the temple....no vehicle can access this place....need to park before the barricades and bring your belongings
Would not recommend and would not stay again
Most convenient for temple trip in Madurai. It's just opposite the queue entrance to Meenakshi Amman temple on the west tower side. Hotel is very clean and has 2 floors each with some 10 rooms. Lift is good. No restaurant or Kitchen attached and can get coffee from outside. No windows, balcony fir our room. No parking for hotel. Even cabs can't reach the front entrance, need to pull your baggage by around 100 metres. No frills hotel at reasonable price and friendly staff, especially Venkat. Will definitely visit again. Recommended.
We reached Madurai today,4th Nov 2021. This is our first visit to the city. Most of the shops in the city(I should say 90%) was closed because of Diwali. we pre booked 2 rooms at Gopuram Residency over telephone on 29th October 2021. We were not informed that the place will be closed. I had called and confirmed my booking on 3rd. On arrival we were shocked. the receptionist (a guy) attended our call first time and gave vague directions to reach the hotel. Then when we reached somewhere near to the hotel he stopped taking our calls. somehow we managed to reach the hotel and to our shock we saw that the receptionist was sitting there playing games on his mobile and ignoring the phone calls(the reception phone was continuously ringing). He was so rude and arrogant that he denied taking our hotel booking (though it was pre-booked) and we were left stranded. Please note though this hotel is infront of the temple,it does not provide any kind of parking or motor access you have to walk down to this hotel. The hotel management however never informs you this. We were travelling from Mumbai and completely exhausted. our driver finally found a good place to stay for us. Just hotel aesthetics is not important, basic manners/hospitality need to be taught if you need to run this business.
