This review covers my recent stay at a hotel located in the congested area of the old city, right by the side of a picturesque lake. While the serene lakeside setting offers a unique charm, several aspects of the hotel experience require careful consideration for prospective guests.
Pros
· Lakeside Location: The prime advantage of this hotel is its location. Being situated alongside the lake, both the rooms and the restaurant offer beautiful scenic views, perfect for those seeking a tranquil atmosphere amidst the city’s hustle and bustle.
· Cleanliness and Housekeeping: The room, toilet, and corridors were all maintained in a clean condition. The housekeeping staff were diligent and carried out their duties efficiently.
· Restaurant Ambience: The restaurant, set beside the lake, provides a pleasant dining experience with its captivating view.
· Staff Behaviour: The staff members were courteous and performed their jobs well, contributing positively to the overall stay.
Cons
· Difficult Approach: Accessing the hotel requires a 100-metre walk through a winding, narrow, and dirty lane. This can be inconvenient, especially for those with mobility issues or carrying heavy luggage.
· No Lift in the Building: The hotel is a ground plus two-storey structure but lacks a lift. As a result, guests who struggle with stairs may find it challenging to stay on the upper floors.
· Room Amenities:
· Absence of a closed wardrobe in the King room, an unusual omission for a hotel of this category.
· The floor was bare, scratched in places, and there was no carpet or other covering to improve appearance or comfort.
· No writing table or chair was provided.
Bathroom Facilities:
No towel rack or pegs to hang clothes.
Towels provided were somewhat old.
Only two dental kits, soap, and shampoo were offered—no shaving kit or comb included.
Absence of Travel Desk: There is no travel desk at the hotel, which can be inconvenient for guests wishing to arrange local tours or transportation.
Breakfast and Food Quality:
The breakfast spread was minimal, featuring primarily North Indian dishes.
No vegetarian Rajasthani dishes were included in the menu.
Dishes generally had excessive salt and desserts were overly sweet, attributed to the chef’s habitual use of these ingredients.
No Bar and Restrictions on Liquor: The hotel does not have a bar and does not permit guests to bring liquor from outside.
Unusual TV Policy: While every room is equipped with a television, the hotel does not provide access to any audio or video content—not even free channels. Guests are expected to use their own app accounts to access content, which may not be convenient for everyone.
Final Impression
While the lakeside location and the clean, well-managed environment are definite plus points, the numerous drawbacks—especially concerning accessibility, room amenities, food variety and quality, and lack of entertainment options—greatly overshadow the positives. For me, the cons outweigh the pros by a wide margin. Prospective guests should carefully weigh these factors before making a reservation at this hotel.
Lovely oasis of calm. Breakfast by the lake. Clean well presented rooms and one of the best shower's I have ever used. Friendly helpful staff are the icing on the cake.
Very dirty approach through narrow dirty lanes. Hotel doesn’t have parking. Made me park a km away and had to pay additional 200 per day. Don’t provide facility for pick up and drop to parking except on arrival and departure. Rooms not worth the price. Very ordinary breakfast with limited options. Junior suite is so located that you have dark room. They don’t declare they don’t have parking and once you book they inform you. For me it was non refundable. At this rate , you can easily book a 5 star hotel with more amenities.
Great location right by the lake. Restaurant and infinity pool make the most of it. Staff are great and the room was lovely. Good food and complimentary afternoon tea.
Great chef. Immaculate preparation, food was great with a welcome atmosphere and lakeside view. Some of the continental dishes had amazing flavour and totally unexpected in a nice way. Please note this is in the heart of Old city premices, no car or taxi only thuk thuk or two wheeler. The lack of approach road is appaling but the food makes it worth your while
Great location right next go Chandpol bridge..fantastic staff reception..restaurant ..and housekeeping...everyone could not do enough for us!! Second stay and we were welcomed like family...basic room..lovely balclny lake view!!
Excelente hotel. Bom pequeno almoço e boas refeições. A lamentar o sinal de wifi que é muito fraco!
Os t
Profissionais que lá trabalham são muito competentes. A vista do meu quarto era excelente.
The rooms were very luxurious and romantic perfect for a couple stay. The services provided were very good which makes it a convenient and comfortable stay. The staff including Mahipal, Harsh, Surbhi, Mishi, Tanishka were helpful throughout. The stay gave me more like a personal touch than any other hotel stay.
Lovely hotel centrally located. The food , breakfast, lunch and dinner was delicious and with a very extensive menu. The best part about this hotel were the wonderfully helpful and friendly staff. They were amazing. We had a wonderful stay.
I had a fantastic vacation at Moustache Verandah, largely thanks to the incredible team and serene environment. Every staff member we encountered was genuinely friendly and went out of their way to make us feel welcome, which really set a positive tone for our trip. The hotel itself exuded a wonderfully relaxing atmosphere, making it easy to unwind and enjoy our break. And of course, the beautiful view from our balcony was a constant delight, adding to the overall tranquility of our stay. Highly recommend for a relaxing getaway!"
We had the most amazing stay at this place everyone is so helpful specially Surbhi & Jyoti from guiding to near tourist places to suggest every Short cut possible food service staff every thing is too good we are looking forward to seeing you again
When I want there for the check in they welcomed us with coconut water and smile.the coconut had the hotels name on is it looked good .we met nimisha jyotshna at the reception.she help us suggested many places also they gave us free foot massage and free tea and snacks in the evening thank you so much for the assistance we will visit again.
The signature dish was absolutely amazing perfectly balanced flavour beautifully presented and cooked to perfection i have had recently the freshness of the ingredients and the unique flavour in the food were unforgettable..some of the best food
We had an amazing stay at Moustache Verandah. The hotel is located near the main tourist attractions and the staff was very useful in helping us plan our visits. The restaurant is also very good we've enjoyed dinner there by the laje a couple of times.
We stayed at the Moustache Verandah hotel for our anniversary, and it was a wonderful experience. The hotel is incredibly clean, with everything spotless and well-maintained. The only minor issue we encountered was that the hot water didn’t always work, but it didn’t take away from our overall enjoyment.
What truly makes this hotel stand out is the staff—they are absolutely amazing. Always friendly, attentive, and willing to help with anything we needed. One morning, we had to leave early before breakfast service started, and they went out of their way to make sure we could still have a meal before our trip. It was such a thoughtful gesture. On top of that, they surprised us with gifts for our wedding anniversary, which made our stay even more special.
Overall, it was an incredible experience. If I ever return to Udaipur, I wouldn’t hesitate to stay at Moustache again!
This hotel markets itself as a top class place but I think there’s lots to improve. The rooms are nice and the service is well intentioned but lacking
We are in the restaurant 3x and they got our order wrong 3x
Little things like coffee taking 20 mins to prepare / orders wrong / telling us we had to move rooms as we had extended our stay
Alcohol is not allowed in this place and they will fine you if you are found with it
We planned our stay to coincide with the Holi celebrations in Udaipur, which is a very busy time of the year. The room service and resturant service was up to the mark. The hotel is located at a walking distance to the major tourist attractions like Jagdish Chowk, City Palace, and Gangaur Ghat. The only issue with our stay was that the AC was not working in one of our rooms, which was resolved later after informing the staff. The staff were friendly and cordial. The infinity pool concept is something unique about this place. Views from the lake view room is amazing. My rating: 4/5
Had a great experience at Moustache in Udaipur. The view was fabulous and the food delicious. Loved the big swing and the complimentary foot massage. The staff was amazing - especially Nimisha & Amit. Highly recommend the hotel and will visit again.
Hotel is located in the old city, which is a great interesting location.
The down side is that you can’t get a car to the entrance, as the hotel is located down a small local round. But they were helpful with helping to send a tuk-tuk to meet us.
The rooms were spacious and clean. We had a great view over the lake with a small balcony.
We had an issue with the water from the shower - the temperature would go from scolding hot to cold and back up hot.
The restaurant setting was nice, but we were disappointed they didn’t serve alcohol. But they didn’t mind if you purchased beer and drank in their hotel. We only had lunch, lots of choices to go out for dinner. The breakfast was ok, could have been better. But there was a fresh egg station and the coffee was good, could have been more fruit.
The staff were very helpful.
The entrance to this hotel is not glamorous at all, down a dark narrow alleyway which I needed local help to find.
Check in prompt and I like the WhatsApp info messages sent.
Rm 25- fantastic view which obviously you pay for.
But I immediately noticed a crack in the window and lots of dirty marks on the floor.
On the flip side, 2 big bottles of water, a chocolate plate, 2 kit-kats, and fruit basket were nice touches (water and chocolate plate replenished daily).
Nice comfortable bed.
Pool is unheated, fairly small, irregular shape and overlooked by restaurant with only 2 sunbeds so don't book hotel solely for this.
WiFi brilliant, breakfast very nice with egg options and waffle station.
Good location for all the sights listed, and choice of restaurants.
Staff were all excellent. Very friendly and professional.
All in all, I enjoyed my stay but think it was not value for money in the Indian market, albeit in a touristy destination such as Udaipur.
