Raised tatami beds were super cool. Also the fact that you are sleeping on level with the window is great. Hotel esthetics and staff were great. Location is also crucial here..in the center, but in a quiet area. Within 5m walk to the Gojo and Shijo metro stations...and 20 mins on foot from the Gion district.

The place of shower is too small.

We chose ASAI Kyoto Shijo because it offered great value for a 4-star hotel, and the price was very reasonable. Unfortunately, the experience didn't feel like a 4-star stay. Our room was extremely noisy, and we could hear other guests talking, doors slamming, and people moving around throughout the night, which made it difficult to sleep. To the hotel's credit, the staff were apologetic and kindly offered to move us to another room after we raised the issue. However, our overall experience didn't match the standard we were expecting from a 4-star property.
There were a few things that disappointed us. The hotel felt much more like a hostel than a 4-star property. It was very noisy, with guests talking, doors closing, and people coming and going late into the evening and from very early in the morning. We were woken around 4am every morning, which made it difficult to get a good night's sleep. The restaurant also felt more like a canteen than a hotel dining space, and there were often large groups of teenagers staying at the hotel, which added to the busy atmosphere.
I was also disappointed by the size of the room. From the photos, the rooms appeared much larger, but when we arrived it became clear that the images had been taken using mirrors and wide angles that made the space look significantly bigger than it actually was. One of the main reasons I chose this hotel was because I believed the rooms would be more spacious. Had the photos reflected the room size more accurately, I would likely have booked a different hotel that I was originally considering, such as MAANA, where larger rooms were a priority for us.
The staff were friendly and did their best to help, but overall the experience didn't match what we expected from a 4-star hotel.
The restaurant there was so good.
Second time we've stayed here. Comfortable and convenient. Food and bar are good too.
Would be nice if bar stayed open a little later.
