Travelodge Kyoto Shijo Kawaramachi

The location of this hotel is excellent — very easy to get around and close to shops, restaurants, and public transit. The rooms are small, which is expected in Tokyo, but we were still able to manage one small suitcase and one large suitcase without feeling completely cramped.

Just a few things to be aware of: the beds are QUITE firm, and each guest only gets one pillow, so it may not be the most comfortable setup if you prefer a softer sleep. The rooms also run very hot in the winter, and the hotel controls the temperature, so the AC can’t be turned on. There is a window you can open for airflow, but there were no instructions on how to open it.

Overall, the hotel works well if you prioritize location and don’t mind a simpler, firmer, warmer room setup.

Would I stay again? I don’t know.

Great location. Very clean hotel

Very central place, good size room.

Everything is great. The only surprise/downside was having to pay more in extra taxes in Kyoto for the hotel room. This large extra fee (nearly as much as the entire hotel cost) was not mentioned or clearly shared on the Expedia site when booking.

Otherwise, it was a great stay, in a great location near lots of attractions, restaurants, & shopping areas that were within walking distance. Perfect for 1-2 people with minimal/carry-on luggage.

The location is good, with bus stops, restaurants and shops nearby, and the train station easily reachable by bus. The room was very small, quite clean. The staff was friendly. However, breakfast was disappointing: very limited selection, almost no sweet options, no variety from day to day, and the breakfast area was terribly dirty. The laundry service can be useful, but with only two machines for all guests it was often busy and not clean.

Very friendly and helpful front staff. Excellent location. Rooms clean, a wee on the small but adequate. Bathroom had a shub which you had a high climb over into, so may not be suitable for some. The laundry facilities consist of 2 machines for the whole hotel that take 2 hours to do a wash n dry (drying not very good) ...queues to use. Laundrymat not too far away (consider light hand wash in your room). All being said ..I'd stay there again

Good property, breakfast could have been better was very average literally just 1 item. Overall stay was good, rooms a bit small and claustrophobic however guess thats what most hotels here have. Overall pretty good stay and excellent location.

Great reception staff and would be fine for one overnight but we were there for a few days and felt very claustrophobic in a room with no natural light.

Very busy location, this hotel is right in the heart of downtown so it was very accessible to dining and shopping which was great however the hotel itself is a bit outdated and not the cleanest. The washroom was very small and squishy, and the room itself does not have much space to open up your luggage. You could also hear people in the hallways so it was sometimes very noisy. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

We had a lovely stay and the hotel is really nice, especially location and connections to all key tourist sights.
The only concern I had were the very small/short pillows which made sleep very uncomfortable.
