Extremely friendly and accommodating staff. Impressive attention to detail. Very large and comfortable rooms on gorgeous grounds. Enjoyed the evening drinks/snacks in the dining area overlooking the garden. Very nice Japanese breakfast. Great location (right beside Nara Park).
Nothing.
The very convenient location, historical buildings, quiet and serene surrounding; wonderful layout of the room with beautiful view of garden (corner room was specially nice). Bathroom, onsen, beddings, air conditioning, and lighting all perfectly designed. Spacious room with plenty of closet space for 2. Complimentary cocktails during "happy hour" in a separate building was most enjoyable. Breakfast was delicious. Special mention : concierge service was excellent from the start, response was prompt with excellent recommendations. Concierge also managed to get a booking at a restaurant which I failed to book online myself. Really appreciate that - thank you concierge team Hiromi san & Naoyuki san.
Beautiful, historical property, in an excellent location.
The whole check in process was ridiculous. The hotel staff was very controlling in where you could be or not be in the lobby area. Put us in a beautiful reading room for :30 minutes while we waited to simply check in. It’s as though the staff were preparing for us to stay in the Taj Mahal, when it’s just a hotel with some history. The cafe, in a separate structure, is a beautiful setting with garden views. However, it receives its food from the kitchen at the main facility. Takes forever to simply order a tea & light lunch. Not really a cafe. 1 hour & a half to experience that should only take :15 minutes. Every other table appeared to be annoyed with the extremely long wait simply to get a drink.
In a nut shell, the hotel staff was not living up to a high end hotel property, and they think they are the best hotel in the world. Really not!
Also, never got to speak to the concierge. It’s as though they were being secretive about everything. No assistance with local recommendations. A very weird experience to be honest.
Being on the edge of the truly estraordinary UNESCO world heritage Nara park - at night all the tourists go home and you can wander freely in the moonlight! Traditional Japanese breakfast was sensational and welcome Laurent Perrier at dusk overlooking a garden was exquisite.
Everything
Nothing
Located next to Nara Museum and deer park, the hotel is in a modern Japanese style with staff attending to every detail. The reception building is a former government office and one of the rooms is where the US-Japan Security Treaty was signed by the Japanese emperor. Love the free champagne during 5-7pm everyday in the cafe.
The design and location was brilliant - one of the best places I have every stayed.
Nothing.
Good location, good quality of the room.
The service.

Historical place in a great location. Good combination of new and old. Staff very friendly.
The Sake pairing to the menu was clearly overpriced
This is an exceptional property: the building carries great historical value, is truly beautiful, located right on the onset of Nara Park, thus a few minutes away from the main temples (Todai-Ji, Kokufu-Ji). The rooms are enchanting (we were blessed to have one with the in-room onsen), you're immersed in a beautiful garden/forest when opening your curtains; the dining room for breakfast is stunning, and the (Japanese) breafast is great. It's a genuinely unique Japanese luxury experience perfectly located in Nara
Staff were very caring. The room with a private onsen was a highlight.
The breakfast was delicious but very overpriced.
The premises and room was incredible. Flawless. We loved the elegant traditional spaces and the more modern rooms. The happy hour was a nice touch - it was served in a gorgeous room overlooking a beautiful garden and the champagne was good. However, the snacks were limited so I wouldn't budget more than 15-30min there. And wouldn't change my evening itinerary to accommodate attending.
On check out day we checked out early (9am) instead of 12pm as we had plans to explore the city and leave the luggage at the hotel. At 1pm when we went back for the luggage (on a VERY hot day) we were not allowed in (I think the hotel was fully booked for a private event) to wait in the lobby while we called for a taxi. That honestly soured the entire stay and felt like a cheap hotel rather than a luxury stay. The staff made us wait 10min outside in the humid heat while they fetched our suitcases and ordered a taxi. Terrible experience.
Honestly, Nara has some very affordable excellent hotels similarly well located. While this hotel offers a nice luxurious experience I'm not sure I would splurge on this again (vs a location like Kyoto where splurging nets you a better location).
Breakfast was a set meal with two options (western or Japanese). Family members that ordered Western were disappointed. I ordered Japanese and it was nice but nothing specifically culinarily amazing.
Amazing amazing place with the most amazing staff. Staying here was an experience not just a place to sleep. It was so personal and comfortable, clean and special. Our favorite stay in over a month of traveling Japan. Wish we could have stayed longer.
This is a historic hotel in a prime location in Nara. The quality of the room, meals, and service were all top notch. The
