À fuir !!
Pros:

A misleading and disappointing stay that did not reflect the listing, price, or condition of the property.
Cons:

We left this stay feeling genuinely disappointed and misled.

If the hotel had been transparent about its current state and what was actually on offer, there is no way we would have chosen to stay here. The reality simply does not match the listing or photos.

The property felt abandoned, as if management had given up. There was no real sense of a functioning hotel — no atmosphere, no presence — just one woman, Sandra, doing everything: cooking, cleaning, reception, guest communication. She worked incredibly hard and we felt genuinely sorry for her being left to carry the entire place alone.

Several things advertised were not accurate. There are not two restaurants — there is barely one, and that is just Sandra - the Japanese chef left months ago and is not coming back. The pool is not “unusable” — it is complete wreckage. While it’s understandable that they may not have the funds to rebuild it after the hurricane, there has been no effort to make the area safe or presentable. There was debris everywhere, with exposed wires and metal coming out of the ground. It’s a serious health and safety hazard and a huge eyesore. We were only told about the pool situation after we explicitly asked the night before, prompted by seeing recent bad reviews. This should have been disclosed upfront.

The property overall feels tired and deteriorating. Everything is old and on the verge of breaking. During our stay, part of the wooden deck broke, leaving exposed nails — unsafe and concerning. The overall impression was of a hotel slowly dying rather than one being actively and responsibly run.

What didn’t sit right at all was the pricing. Casa UwU appears to be charging some of the highest prices on the island — certainly among the highest we saw — yet is in noticeably worse condition than many other options, including nearby hotels, hostels, and even locally run cabanas. It felt particularly unfair given the level of misrepresentation and the lack of basic upkeep.

Nice but with room for improvement
Pros:

The property is itself beautiful and the location - beach , laguna is perfect. The villa is also nice with a good bath and a wonderful view

Cons:

It felt a bit abandoned! Sandra and her daighter we’re really nice but they we’re the only staff in our stay and sometimes we felt the service could be better- one of the days we wanted to have lunch and there was no one at the hotel when we got here - they ended up improvising !
We we’re the only guests during the stay and there was also no staff staying during a night which also felt a bit unsafe
Also they say there is a japonesa menu but that s not true , also the Wi-Fi was not working and we used the one for the hotel next door!
In general the expectation vs reality was not the best and for the price we payed I think the arrived should be better

A very unpleasant experience
Pros:

We would like to highlight Sandra. She was friendly, warm, and genuinely tried to help us. Thank you!

Cons:

BE AWARE THAT THE PLACE DOES NOT LOOK ANYTHING LIKE THE PICTURES (ANYMORE)

The hotel promotes itself as a 4-star property featuring a beach club with a spa area, several dining options (including Japanese cuisine), and a pool. Before our arrival, we even received a detailed message listing all of these services. However, only about an hour before our arrival, we were informed that not all of these facilities would be available as advertised.

Upon arrival, it quickly became clear that the reality had little in common with the description. The pool was completely unusable and neglected, there was no spa area or massage service whatsoever, and large parts of the property were in very poor condition. Overall, the place resembles a simple hostel rather than a 4-star hotel.

After spending just one night, we decided to leave, as the condition of the accommodation was unacceptable. We were promised a refund for the remaining nights — both verbally and in writing. Unfortunately, this promise was completely ignored after our departure. Several attempts to get in touch have gone unanswered, and the accommodation continues to show no willingness to resolve the matter or communicate honestly.

Overall, our stay was very disappointing. Casa UwU neither delivers what it promises nor stands by its own commitments. Transparent communication and honesty are urgently needed to prevent future guests from having a similar experience.

Der Pool war kaputt, daher nicht benutzbar(siehe Foto), Lage ist eher mühsam, weil man jedes Mal um dort wegzukommen einen Transport benötigt.

The perfect stay
Pros:

Our stay at Casa Uwu was amazing. Sandra went above and beyond to make our whole group feel special and have everything we need. The villas are beautiful, the pool and beds are very relaxing and right on the beach and the food is the best on the island.

It was one of our birthdays while out there and the team set up a stunning table and placements on the beach with enough sushi to feed a football team! They couldn't do enough for us and we would recommend it to everyone.

Exceptional
Pros:

The view was magnificent. One of the most spectacular things i saw is the bioluminescence in the water. If you visit you need to get a tour to the lagoon in the evening and jump in the water. Its glowing! The hosts organized us a tour that we will never forget. :) thank you very much! :)

Cons:

Everything was perfect but you should be aware that there is no atm on the island. The hosts informed us beforehand so it wasn't a problem but its something you should be aware of.

Place is nice, costs after booking are ridiculous
Pros:

Location, glamping feeling, clean and great weather

Cons:

Prices and incl. services.
1. When I booked the hotel the website said transportation included. The hotel didn’t care and charged the full price which was +35% of the whole vacation price!!!
1.2 Another couple took the same ride and instead of charging the costs for a group of 4 only a discount was granted since it was charged per reservation ->Pure profit for the hotel.
2. No free water, 1l bottles sold for 50+ pesos -> not even near market price and at that climate you need a lot of water.
3. Food is about 2-3 times more expensive than in the nearby village.
4. Breakfast incl. but even per egg on the chilaquiles we were charged 20 pesos each egg.
5. The prices for alcoholic beverages were comparable with a night club or a good bar. e.g. cocktails 200 pesos, a bottle Tequila Maestro Doble 5000+ pesos.
6. The policy of the place charges a free for consuming external drinks or food at the place.

All in all it gave the impression that everything has a high price tag which isn’t nice especially if you are aware of the market prices in the nearby village and the supermarket for water for example.

Casa Uwu is awesome for a short stay. Be ready for the environment. Would recommend for 2 nights.
Pros:

Location was truly epic! Right on a beautiful and secluded beach looking onto the pacific ocean.
The staff were really friendly and helpful. Going the extra mile to help make our stay comfortable.
Breakfast was good. Great coffee.

Cons:

The heat and humidity in this region during our stay (November) was really high. There was no escape, the room is exposed to the elements, so it's difficult to cool and keep the moisture from salt water off things.

WORST EXPERIENCE IN 25 YEARS OF TRAVEL ACROSS LATIN AMERICA - DO NOT STAY HERE!
Pros:

The only positive feedback I can provide is that there is a nice view and sounds of the ocean from the top floor of the palapa. The rest of this space details our horrendous experience at CasaUwu which is misrepresented on this listing and on their social media sites. No mention until after booking that an expensive ferry ride was required to get to where the property is located (not included—have to arrange and pay on your own in a town 35min away by boat). Their listing says they will pick you up from town once you arrive by ferry, but don't tell you they require 24hrs notice, even though we were the only guests staying those days. When we arrived in town, we had to try to ask local villagers to bring us to the resort on our own dime. We arrived to find that rather than a luxury resort, we were staying in a run-down campground with only two huts fully constructed; the other structures have camping tents on them. We paid for the entire "villa" that sleeps 4 in advance, but I had accidentally selected that we had 2 people when booking. Even though we got the same accommodations, they charged us almost $200usd extra upfront for the extra 2 people on top of the original total.

The main sliding door to the hut was broken when we arrived and blew open with the wind. The toilet is outside covered by a thatched roof that drips water down your back as you sit. Bugs got through the several broken shutters/gaps in the doors, and there is no way to lock them for safety while you sleep or to protect belongings when you leave. We were the only guests on property and even so received terrible service. It took 30+min to get our first drink at the “restaurant” after several requests. We were not given our own access to drinking water. The linens were stained with dark yellow and orange spots, which the property manager, Sandra, said came from the hard minerals in the well water with which they feed the pool, shower, and sinks.

Cons:

During a rainstorm the last evening, we watched as Sandra broke one of the shutters of our palapa while trying to stop a flood of water flowing THROUGH the slatted doors and thatched roof above us and INTO our palapa ruining our paper items, a few electronics, and leaving all of our possessions sopping wet. After we complained to booking.com about the experience, CasaUwu falsely claimed WE broke the shutter and should pay them for it. The units are incapable of weathering any sort of heavy rainfall and they could not move us to another room as the entire place has only two functioning huts.

CasaUwu still owes us a refund of over $2000mxn for a tour that did not happen due to weather. I recorded Sandra at check out saying that she would refund the four of us for the tour as soon as they could get their internet working again, since the WHOLE PROPERTY lost power during the rainfall and we spent an entire night/morning in the dark, soaking wet. Sandra then tried to sabotage our departure from the property, something that I don’t need to explain is very unsettling when you’re trapped on property in a remote area of Mexico. She drove into town the morning we departed and told all public transportation providers NOT to pick us up at her property or let us get on a ferry off the island claiming we owed money for hamburgers (untrue). Thankfully, we made friends in town so they disregarded her requests and informed us of her scheme. We learned the locals and CasaUwu do not get along as CasaUwu rips off the local community and takes advantage of guests.

On a separate note—all of us left sick from the food at CasaUwu. My husband was seen at the hospital in Puerto Escondido the day we left for gastroenteritis and we only ate on property.

I've traveled across LATAM and have never once left a bad review. I have relayed all details above including photos and videos to booking.com and they stated they would investigate, but provided no further support or compensation.
