Great stay, a let down that we weren’t able to enjoy the hotel.
Pros:

We had a wonderful stay at the hasbrouck house in the carriage house. The room was perfect- clean, large, quiet and was stocked with everything we needed. The staff was nice and accommodating. The only negative about our stay is that it was not told to us when booking that they had a wedding onsite the same night- which caused the restaurant and bar to be closed to guests. One of the reasons we picked Hasbrouck was because of the restaurant Butterfield. We were very bummed that after a long day of driving, we had to drive off property for dinner and drinks. We wish we were able to enjoy the hotel more.

Pros:

To put my reactions in context, we were at HH for just one night that was unseasonably cold and rainy, so could not take advantage of the resort's amenities. BUT . . .we had reserved what turned out to be a 3d floor room up two flights of very narrow stairs. No one offered help with luggage. A night table lamp was missing a bulb, which we brought to staff's attention, but no replacement was brought up. The room itself was tiny. The online photo shows it with a small desk and reading chair. The room actually had neither, and I felt at some risk for hitting my head on the ceiling. All in all, it just wasn't worth what we paid for it.

Pros:

Great getaway property. We checked in for two nights, and stayed in a building with kitchen/2 bedrooms, which was great for our needs. We spent time in the property relaxing at the beautiful pool, sauna, and had a fabulous dinner at Butterfield. Played some shuffleboard, pool and video games in their clubhouse - very laid back vibe and perfect for a couples weekend. Great food options off property in the area, and my partner was able to get in a quick nine-hole game of golf at a nearby course.

Hasbrouck House was disappointing!
Pros:

My daughter and son-in-law's wedding was held at the Hasbrouck House in Stone Ridge, New York, in November 2024. It was such a disappointing event that I felt it was important to document our concerns in hopes of preventing any bride and groom from having a similar experience.

Property Maintenance and Venue Conditions: From the moment guests arrived, the lack of attention to property details was glaring. These seemingly minor details contributed to an unprofessional appearance that was inconsistent with the standards expected of a wedding venue. Guests encountered non-functional TVs in several rooms and found a piece of gum stuck to a chair. There were burnt-out light bulbs in the string lights, and tables and floors were not properly cleaned. For a wedding, these initial impressions matter and unfortunately set the wrong tone. The cocktail tables were draped with ill-fitting tablecloths, and fold-up tables in the reception area had exposed legs. The walkway lights were not operational, which affected the ambiance, convenience, and safety for older guests moving between locations. Despite booking the venue exclusively, the inadequate signage allowed uninvited guests to wander into our private event spaces on both Friday and Saturday.

Food and Beverage: The food service was severely lacking.
• Friday Welcome Reception: This was one of the few positives. We appreciated the well-executed bar service, but the bartender was unaware that it was supposed to be a consumption bar. On Monday after the wedding, I was charged $4,000 on my credit card for the cocktail party, but it remains unclear how that amount was calculated.
• Saturday Breakfast: Breakfast service on Saturday began 30 minutes late. Several items were missing and not replenished, leaving guests with limited options.
• Saturday Cocktail Hour: We were missing specific appetizers, which had been deliberate choices by the couple. The absence of these items was disappointing and diminished the experience we had planned.
• Wedding Reception Dinner:
o Delayed and Disorganized Service: Meals were served inconsistently, with some guests receiving cold entrees while others waited nearly an hour longer. This delay cut into the planned dancing time, leaving only 30 minutes for the couple to celebrate on the dance floor.
o Quality of Entrees: The entrees did not resemble the selections presented at the tasting. Meals looked unappealing, portions were small, and several guests found their dishes inedible.
o Dessert Disruption: Dessert was not the same as what we tasted earlier. Coffee was not served until close to the end of dinner; if it hadn't been mentioned, it likely would not have been served at all.
• Saturday Afterparty Snacks: The quality of afterparty snacks was inconsistent.
• Sunday Brunch: The brunch was significantly delayed by over 60 minutes.

Kitchen and Staffing Issues: The venue's kitchen was clearly under-resourced and appeared unprepared for the event.
• Despite assurances that the chef from the tasting would prepare the wedding meals, it felt as if a different chef had handled the event based on presentation and quality.
• Servers did not serve the bride and groom first; food was delivered one plate at a time to various tables. The last table did not get their food until 9pm which we had to rush them to eat. The entrees came out 45 minutes after the salad.
• As a result of the delay the bride and groom only had 30-40 minutes of dancing and feeling like they couldn’t let loose after the first dances and not being able to get to the first dances until after 9pm.

After the wedding, I had a conference call with the owner of the Hasbrouck House as well as the Hasbrouck House management team which were nowhere to be found during the wedding weekend. The owner agreed that a refund was appropriate. After 7 months of negotiations a small refund was received.

I encourage you to consider my comments if you are thinking about the Hasbrouck House for an event. Be sure to ask questions and address the concerns I outlined.

Peaceful getaway
Pros:

My DH and I stayed here for two nights. It was a lovely hotel and we were given room number 10, which had plenty of space and a nice bathroom. The room we stayed in was Considered a loft room so our ceilings were angled. We aren’t very tall people so it didn’t bother us, but I imagine it would be a problem for someone who was tall. There was no mini fridge so we had to go out/text staff to get any cold drinks. Everything in the room was clean and comfortable. The bed was loaded with pillows, and there were extra blankets and pillows in our walk-in closet. There were no dressers to unpack, but plenty of hangers to hang things. The room was comfortable temperature wise.

At check in, we had to wait for someone at the front desk, but once they showed up, they explained all the amenities and where we could find them. There was a shuffleboard court and a bocce court and the supplies were right there, however, the area needed a little bit of sweeping and maintenance on the first night. By the second day, it was ready to go. We took the path to the lake, and found the area to be peaceful but buggy. The lake is gross with algae, but there are plenty of chairs to sit and just enjoy the quiet. We were very disappointed with the pool as something must’ve happened to the filters because it was green and the fence was locked. We were looking forward to using it.

Our package included champagne at check in and massages. We had to remind them about the champagne but it was in our room the next day. They could not accommodate a couples massage so we booked two single massages. The masseuse was professional and courteous. We did not have to worry about tipping, because that is included in the invoice that he sent over to the hotel’s billing service. I am a bit worried that the front desk didn’t understand that we had booked/paid for the massages ahead of time so we will have to keep looking at our bill to make sure that we weren’t double billed. The front desk seemed confused by some of our requests.

We had dinner and a breakfast at the Butterfield which was very good. The service was accommodating and prompt, and we were pleased by our meals. Our second night we went off the property for dinner, but when we returned, we took our champagne out by the fire pits that were already burning. We were visited by three different staff members to bring us water, put logs on the fire, and to check on us.

All in all, I found this to be a peaceful weekend on a lovely piece of property. There were several managers visiting on the second day of our stay and there was a noticeable improvement in the staff’s attention to the property and guests. It’s obvious that the staff is continuously trying to improve services and take care of guests.

Fabulous & friendly getaway
Pros:

We had the best time at Hasbrouck House! The pool was the perfect temperature, there were plenty of lounge chairs & they were all set up in advance for us, our suite was the perfect size, the bathroom was awesome with an amazing walk-in shower, we were surrounded by a beautiful, woodsy setting, the study was filled with games & nice music, and the staff was phenomenal! Always checking on us to see how we were & if there was anything we needed. Yusef, the bartender, & Olivia, the waitress, were especially friendly & accommodating. We will definitely return!

Nice weekend visit
Pros:

A return visit to Hasbrouck House. Love the hotel and the grounds. Room was very small and you could bang your head on the ceiling where the windows are cut out. I would opt for a larger room than #9. For the price the room is very very small. Bed was confortable and shower was very good. . The hotel always looks good and the pool is very nice.

Perfect 40th Anniversary Gift!
Pros:

A 3-day, 2-night stay here was given to us as a 40th wedding anniversary gift by our 3 sons & their wives. And what a perfect gift it was! Our room 9 had the sweetest, all-around views from the multiple windows both in our corner room & in the bathroom of all the greenery, flowers & lawns. Although breakfast is no longer offered as part of the room rate, we were "grandfathered in" by the super amenable, welcoming head chef, who, in large part, is the engine behind the hotel's managing group, because our room had been booked when the breakfast plan was still in existence. Our breakfasts were presented beautifully & by servers who were super friendly & engaging, as is the rest of the staff here. The pool had not yet been filled for the summer, so we enjoyed sunning on the pool deck, the sweet sauna, walks to the lake down below the property, played shuffleboard, billiards in the way-downstairs which has stone walls, low ceilings, a wine closet, board games & game table, as well as darts. The first floor library is cozy, filled with couches, upholstered chairs, books, coloring books & colored pencils & the in-house restaurant offers 3 meals a day, either in the beautifully outfitted & sunny dining room or on the back patio, alongside a rain barrel, herb garden, smoke house, fire pit & the grassy lawns. The owners & the hotel's hospitality group are working on upgrading & updating the facilities & its offerings (including the lake!) & we applaud them for their efforts & plans. We are glad that we could fully enjoy this welcoming, beautiful old stone home & its equally welcoming staff & we thank the head chef for the bottle of Prosecco that he gifted us! P.S. I think I saw someone moving a rolling chicken coop from one part of the property to another!

So much potential....
Pros:

To start with the positives -- this is a beautiful property with so much potential to be a luxury inn. My best friend and I were celebrating milestone birthdays and booked the double twin room #8. The room was lovely, very comfortable and well appointed. The beds and linens were great, bathroom nice (heated floors!), wonderful robes. The interior design and decor is stunning, and just overall you felt like you were in a very upscale property. That's about where it ended - the service is ambisaml! I never intended to write a bad review, but after being falsely charged over $500+ after check out, and having so much trouble getting in touch with a human and resolving the error, I am inclined to warn future guests:

Beware:
- In general this property has NO STAFF. Everyone is a gloried teenager who is clueless.
- No one gave us any information upon check in on Friday evening. No one helped us, directed us, told us anything about the property or amenities such as group yoga the next morning or the breakfast which was supposedly included in our stay, or the game room, or areas to explore. The "welcome" email incudes a generic guide, but no staff elaborated on anything (and half of what was described in the guide wasn't even available!!)
- Saturday morning around 9am we came down to reception to inquire about a hiking trail (which we read about in the guide) and things to do. No one mentioned the complimentary yoga or breakfast... we only saw the yoga happening when we returned from our 'hike' aka a 10 minute walk through the woods -- it is a miniature 'trail' kinda of a joke
- Upon getting to breakfast at the restaurant, no staff in the restaurant had any clue what we were talking about in terms of the included breakfast. Only AFTER we finished did they inform us that we were entitled to a 'continental breakfast' which didn't even exist?!?!?
- I also informed the reception on Saturday morning that the cold plunge was dirty and empty - see photo attached. Nothing was done to fix this and we booked 2 sauna and cold plunge sessions well in advance, since that was a selling point of the property. That should have been addressed right away and it was very disappointing.
- Our massage and sauna reservations were totally messed up and all the timing was off. I have paper trail confirming the timing via email, yet no one input the correct information into your system, resulting in our day's schedule being hours off... So we were off schedule and could have gone to Mohonk to hike or explore other towns, but instead we sat waiting for our massages thinking they were at 2:30 when in fact they were scheduled for 4 and 5:15pm. A wasted day...
- We had to ask for the sauna to be turned on, since no one paid any attention to our pre-scheduled reservations and then had further proof that no one addressed the cold plunge whatsoever, despite a half day passing by. The pool was a lot more shabby in person than the photos on the website appeared. No one skimmed the pool or came to refresh towels at any point during the day. Hotel GUESTS cleaned the pool ourselves.
- It was advertised that you could have drinks and food by the pool - not the case. it was the end of June, so perfect for that kind of al fresco experience but alas, no staff, no communication, nada
- In addition, we were not informed about the tipping policy for the massage therapist until we checked out.
- On Sunday morning (our check out day), housekeeping woke us before 8am asking to clean the room. WHY would they even knock at all, knowing we are checking out at 11am. What an annoying disruption to our last morning.
- Lastly and most importantly, when I found a $500+ nonsense charge AFTER we checked out and settled up, it took almost 2 days to even speak to a manager on the phone. You do not receive any itemized receipt so you have no idea what charges are for. The manager was less than accommodating after I DID ALL THE MATH and explained it all. Nor did the manager address any of the other concerns that I voiced above.

I would have loved to return during another season but I can't in good conscience give my business to this establishment. The owners should know that there is so much potential but the staffing needs to shape up and also increase in general! Too bad...

Romantic Getaway
Pros:

The place is so charming and room #10 was intimate yet spacious and warm. You may walk the trails and gardens or relax by the pool. Our favorite was having pre and post dinner drinks by one of the many firepits around the yard. The staff are friendly and extremely helpful. The basement has a billiards table and game area, which was awesome. Butterfield, the restaurant, was recently renovated and upgraded and it showed. The ambience was intimate and comfortable with candles in teh large fireplace. The food was fresh and delicious but a bit overpriced.
CONS: the tvs in teh rooms need updating. You can't mirror your phones or utilize apps as it's not a smart TV. On a rainy day that was annoying trying to watch a movie. We'd come back for sure.

Not what you pay for!
Pros:

Just went to Hasbrouck House for Memorial Day weekend and our 10 year wedding anniversary.

We booked 3 nights but left early.
The property is beautiful/stunning truly. The sauna was nice.

However the restaurant was missing 1/2 of the main dishes, leaving chicken and veggies dishes. Very disappointing.

The front desk was empty for most of our stay.

Amenities listed on website were not available: the pool (which opens Memorial Day weekend?) the cold plunge. We were really looking forward to trying the cold plunge and it was one of the reasons we booked there.

And the icing on the cake was that our room was never cleaned on the second day?! For the price you pay this is outrageous.

I would not recommend staying here.

Cannot recommend this place enough for a weekend getaway
Pros:

Our stay at Hasbrouck House was absolutely wonderful. We spent a long weekend for Valentines Day and it was well worth the money. The inn is a perfect combination of homey and luxury. It wasnt the most luxury place ever, but it definitely had a vibe of indulgence. The rooms are spacious with some great special touches (heated bathroom floors), the property has some awesome activities (outdoor barrel sauna, full game room). The location feels remote but is still in close proximity to civilization as well as some other great towns (Woodstock, Kingston). The restaurant on premise was absolutely phenomenal (we ate there 2/3 nights because of the weather). The breakfast (included with your stay) was great. The staff was super friendly and always available via phone/text. Cannot recommend this enough, especially for a young couple wanting a weekend getaway from NYC. Definitely recommend having a car for this trip.

Cold Shoulder
Pros:

Our room had little to no heat for 1.5 days during 15 degree weather. How could I tell?? At any given hour, the room radiator was cold to the touch day and night. On the last day of our stay, I reached out to the staff about the lack of heat. The room temperature seemed to rise ever so slightly, but never to a comfortable room temperature. As native NY’er and resident of the Hudson Valley, I’m familiar with NY winters, but the room temperature was borderline unbearable. The only space in the room that was warm was the bathroom, thanks to its heated floors! This is my third time staying at the hotel. I want to love this place, but there’s always something.
