Carmel Beach Hotel

Very close to the beach. Views of the ocean from the balcony. Very nice amenities such as their own toiletries which were lovely. Very comfortable stand alone tub with bath salts, nepresso machine and 4 pods each day, cookies at turndown, comfy bed. Also loved its in the residential area with beautiful properties all around but also a short walk to shopping and eating.

Excellent proximity to the ocean. Away from the downtown tourist trap! Loved the outdoor patio to have breakfast and the fire pit.

The property is impeccable. It is quiet and lovely. Very close to beach, (I'm not aware of a property closer). The hospitality of the staff was great as well.

The management of this hotel is pitiful. Super unfriendly. Super incompetent. They don't communicate. The sinks don't work. The wake-up call never came. The bar was closed and they offer no apologies. The room layouts are terrible as there is no privacy and completely noisy. It is a rip-off for the price. It could have been a great place based on the location but it is absolutely terrible.

My husband and I planned a rare weekend away and chose Carmel Beach Hotel because it looked lovely. It was - the property is charming, rooms are nicely renovated, 1 min walk to the beach, you wake up to the sound of the waves. The quaint little bar and utterly charming bartender Lucy were wonderful. She took care of us, busing snacks out, making drinks that looked like art, and genuinely friendly. However, the front of house staff acted like we were a gross inconvenience to them. Valerie and her colleague who was front of house on Sat Mar 21 were unhelpful, dismissive and need a course correction if they have any intention of staying in hospitality. As it stands, Lucy should be running the place. We would only come back if we read reviews that this had been fixed.

We spent Valentine’s weekend at Carmel Beach Hotel and it was exactly what we were hoping for. Check-in was incredibly welcoming—they greeted us with drinks, and the fire pit in front of the reception area kept us warm while we arrived a little early. It immediately set the tone for a relaxing weekend.

The grounds are beautifully maintained, and we stayed in Room 12 with an ocean view that my wife absolutely loved. The room felt modern and thoughtfully designed, featuring a beautiful bathtub and shower that made it easy to unwind. Breakfast was served right to our room and was both convenient and tasty.

The staff was wonderful and helpful throughout our stay, and it’s just a short walk to the lovely beach. We would definitely stay here again for a romantic weekend escape.

Location!! One block from the beach and stair access right there, this is a great place to stay. The grounds and building are well maintained. We were lucky to have stayed in an ocean view room with balcony. The bed was really comfortable, the bathroom was spotless and incredible spacious, with a separate tub (we didn't take advantage of it) and wonderful bath toiletries. Bathrobes and slippers are always a nice touch; Nespresso in the room and bottled water available. We ordered their breakfast and it was delicious, definitely recommend. You can choose to eat in your room (we did) or in the patio, which is equally delightful.
One thing to note, not the first one looking at other reviews, walls are a bit thin. It was not an issue for us since our neighbors were respectful and turned off the TV at a reasonable hour and the evening was quiet, no car noise and you can listen to the waves crushing if you leave the window open.
A comment about the distance to downtown: it is about a 15 minute walk, totally doable especially if you choose to walk along the beach, coming back from dinner is perfectly safe. And the property offers car service. so it was definitely not an issue, but something to consider if you are looking to stay in the middle of the action (I much prefer the retreat and proximity to the beach with easy access still to shops and restaurants). Parking is also not an issue, with reserved spots for guests. Highly highly recommend.

We come to Carmel every new year to celebrate my birthday.
We stayed at Carmel Beach Hotel in 2024 and had a good experience.
The rooms, breakfast, service, transportation, & other basic amenities were nice.
The cost of the rooms at that time were twice as expensive as the average hotel in Carmel.
But we thought it was worth it and enjoyed being away from town.
This past New Years was a bad experience.
First, the room charge was 3 times the average rate.
We were expecting to receive top notch service, but got nearly the opposite.
Our room wasn’t ready on time.
No complimentary breakfast and the food was just ok (cooked offsite).
The service for coffee and transportation was frustrating.
And frankly the hospitality of those that work there needs some improvement to say the least.
With the exception of Raffy the bartender. He was delightful and very enjoyable to speak with.
A lot of money for basic service.
Not worth the price.
