Beautiful view of small lake.
A large A/C unit was in the middle of the living room area. This was not shown in the on line pics.
A $50 resort fee was added to my rate. No previous mention of this on Booking.com.
It took 6 hours to get TV reception in the bedroom.
This once lovely old building is in need of extensive attention to cleanliness. The window sills were quite dirty. The carpeting throughout was patched and stained.
I appreciate that the new owners are in the process of remodeling. The price point should reflect its current condition. 5 star prices for a 2 star condition.
Views are incredible. Oquaga lake is beautiful
The room hadn’t been stayed in a long time and it wasn’t ready for that many guests at one time. No TP is room and bathroom just wasn’t clean enough
The lake was wonderful. The porch was comfortable and beautiful. The dock seating was also awesome. The Dinning area also had lake view which was nice.
There was boats available to use with life vests. A swim area was condoned off but there was no steps to get into the water and there were weeds growing in there. I went in the water from the boat slip instead.
The lake front was beautiful but there was no staff attention there. Someone had left a coffee mug on a table on the dock and it stayed there for days. I finally moved it to the porch. There was also a discarded plastic cup 🥤 in the lakeside seating area.
The staff was nice but sparse. Breakfast is free for all guests. Monday Breakfast was bearly continental. No eggs, yogurt, juice, bagels, a few grapes, mini pastries, and muffins. Tuesdays breakfast had hard boiled eggs. Wednesday there was no food out At 8:10 am and I had to leave so I missed breakfast. (Breakfast is from 8 to 10 am). Thursday was better. It was a full breakfast with eggs, French toast and sausage.
The rooms are small but adequate.
Beautiful setting and wonderful staff
Theee is no central heat. The HUGE external heating unit in our room was improperly installed and left huge gaps in the window. We had to stuff towels in the gaps. And the cord was not contained so a tripping hazard and dangerous when my toddler grandson came in. The hose kept falling out too. The bathroom is gorgeous… a shame it can barely be used as the heating unit in the main room is not sufficient to heat the bathroom. The cost was not aligned with the conditions. Also, they took my Reservation for dinner but when we arrived told us there was an event and no table service— just a $30 pp really poor buffet. Such a disappointing visit to a beautiful spot.
The lake views
Our stay was just meh. We were coming up for a wedding. The scenery and the lakeside by the Inn is beautiful. My favorite part of the room was the bathroom with the big jetted tub. There were plenty of towels, the room was clean, temperature was good. The staff were nice enough.
I understand it was off-season for the Inn, but it was unfortunate that there was no lunch or brunch on the weekend days. Especially since the location is very isolated and there was nowhere else really to eat close by. Breakfast Sunday was also very disappointing - just bagels, cereal, and yogurt. The Inn is very creaky and the walls are very thin. It seems a bit odd to me that there was a keurig in the lobby, but not one in the room since there was a wet bar in our suite. It would have been nice to be able to make coffee and tea in the room rather than need to get dressed and go downstairs. And if you aren't going to have food, maybe a mini-fridge in the suites so we can at least eat out. The coffee table in our sitting area was also very large and had sharp corners. It took up the whole doorway to the bedroom and wasn't easy to get around. Overall I feel we paid too much for what was offered on site.
We reserved and paid $356 for a Deluxe room with lake view at least 6 days before arriving. We were given a room facing the back of the building with a view of peeling paint and a roof. The front desk did not even attempt to apologize. (This was reserved yesterday. NOT). Mildew smelling blankets, pillows. Dirty towel and VERY creaky floors above us. A call to Hotels.com did not rectify. AVOID.
Staff and food were excellent !
A lovely location on the lake with beautiful views. The food was amazing and it was so nice to eat on the enclosed porch with a view of the lake.
The bed was low and just on a platform.
Enjoyed our stay. This is our second time here.
Beautiful, exceptional and highly recommend for a visit. Wonderful for families and excellent food and service by staff:
Love the view!!!
The lake setting
Loud air-conditioning and breakfast.
We have been coming to The Chestnut Inn for 29 years and are so happy that it is open again! We love the quiet setting of the beautiful lake and the great bands, too!!
I wish that there were some more "simple" food options, rather than all the gourmet cuisine.
We had people staying in the room above us and could hear them moving around a lot during the night, so they kept waking us up, and we had a loud sound machine. Maybe more floor padding instead of hardwood floors, would help to muffle the sound!!
Thank you!!
Continental breakfast and coffee service were fine....restaurant was excellent
Can't think of anything that we didn't like...
Staff was impeccable, food was extraordinary with great presentation and taste. And you can’t beat viewing at a beautiful calm lake. Very quiet and very restful.
Bed to low on floor, could use somewhere to get snacks or drinks between breakfast and dinner. Need a better way for folks to get into the lake. My wife couldn’t go swimming, due to nothing but a tiny aluminum ladder.
Love the property and the rooms. Very comfortable and bathroom was great. Dinner menu was good and food was excellent.
Missed a cooked breakfast (not available) and could have done without the pot smoke in the stairwell from the night before.
Such a charming, old school hotel on the absolutely beautiful Oquaga Lake, the cleanest and clearest lake in NY State. It felt a bit like stepping back in time, into the hotel in Dirty Dancing, which is exactly what I’d hoped for. We even met some charming locals and had a singalong around the grand piano. Such a special night, place and people.
Quite noisy at night.
