If by eclectic and rustic you like dilapidated and dirty, this is your place.
The text said to see ourselves to our cottage and the key was inside. However most of the cottages/rooms weren’t numbered. There were no signs… we had no reception to call. After roaming around we found a man and asked if he knew where 22 was. He lead us one way, then another, before remembering 22 was back the first direction. We got to an unmarked cabin and went in. A key labeled 22 was on the table. The room smelled musty. The room was not like the pictures. The furniture was very old, threadbare, saggy. There were cobwebs. Maybe they cleaned after the last people left but not since? I’m not sure. There was a small door that wouldn’t shut all the way but had a single nail in the top holding shut. From the outside it seemed like this lead to a fenced in area that we couldn’t see in. It was creepy.
Really odd place. I enjoy rustic cabins and natural settings. However this was run-down, and the unidentified junk lying around was perplexing- like bohemian junkyard. It looked very sad. The buildings don't appear to be kept up. The brook was dry so there is no babbling brook. It was too expensive for what you get. The bed was hard as a rock-very uncomfortable- and the pillows were like lumber. I wish that I had put an air mattress in the car. The furnishings, if you care about that sort of thing, was like stuff that you find at the curb in most towns. Stained, mis-matched crappy looking stuff- I think that's what they meant by eclectic. Other reviewers mention the warm reception, the buffet breakfast etc. There was no reception. There is no check-in desk whatsoever. Everything is done by text message and I wouldn't know who works there and who doesn't. No one identified themselves. The breakfast is an extra $15 and not ready on time. Coffee was cold. Good muffins. No amenities that most hotels have like hair dryers, refrigerators, TV's and all that. No air or hair conditioner either. I have stayed in many places for much less money that offered breakfast and actually seemed to want you to enjoy yourself. They seem to think that they are doing you a favor by letting you stay there. No room service- but you can pay $50 to have the room cleaned! Huh? And the "complimentary" small breakfast of not- ready- on- time (cold) coffee, tea, toast, muffins- you have a choice of toast- a half slice- or half a muffin. Beyond that, one per person, it is $2 each for the other half of a piece of toast or the other half of your muffin. That's their hospitality? There are better breakfasts and softer mattresses and comfy pillows elsewhere for a lot less than $180. I think they need a manager to fix operations
This was our second time staying at Racebrook lodge. Both times we came for music performances. Last summer we stayed in the main lodge; this time, in one of the cottages. The place has such magical, rustic charm. We enjoyed talking to the lovely owners in the tavern after the show.
Eh…
Room was clean but lacked amenities (no TV, no hair dryer, tiny bar of soap). Noisy, no insulation, young tots crawling on stairway, no place to sit down comfortably in room, only communication through texting, no early morning coffee available. Parking in very dark area, poor directions to room. Facility is designed for campers, not guests in room. Bed was comfortable and clean but leaked light through cracks in door and windy through the air conditioner, but we left early after one night and would not recommend this place. Not as advertised on Expedia site. Had difficulty finding anyone after dark to help us locate our room. Place is best for campers on the grounds not guests in a room.
Amazing experience in every aspect!
Our stay was acceptable. We booked a room with 2 queen beds but were given a room with one double. It was difficult to find staff to help correct this but eventually it was straightened out. The room we got was clean and comfortable….not really any amenities. There was no tv, refrigerator or soap for the shower. The grounds were pretty with a hiking trail in the back.
We attended a wedding on Aug 24 and I highly recommend that no one ever patronizes this awful venue.
The cocktail hour was nonexistent. You had to wait on line for a drink for over 30 minutes from the one bartender. They put out less than 50 dumplings for 160 people, and a small charcuterie board that couldn't feed 30 people and was not replaced. We had to wait 2 and half hours to be served dinner at 8:30 pm. Maybe there were 3 servers for the entire wedding bringing out one bowl at a time. There were 13 people at my table and certainly not enough food to feed us. They ran out of the eggplant dish that was on the menu for vegetarians . A couple on the table had nothing to eat so they went to other tables to ask if they had any leftovers. They had some nerve accepting a party for 160 people when they couldn't feed 50 properly. Saying they were under staffed is an understatement. The manager of the kitchen didn't order enough food. We all went home hungry.
My husband and I attended a wedding at the Racebrook Lodge on August 24, 2024 and were appalled at the obvious lack of preparation, coordination and management of the lodges wedding staff. Guests were forced to stand for over an hour after the ceremony ended, while chairs were moved to the dining tables . Additionally, the fact that they supplied one bartender for 160 people caused a tremendous crowd to gather by the one bar for an excessively long period of time. The final indignation was when the facilities kitchen literally ran out of food, before all the guests were fed. This necessitated that guests went from table to table on their own seeking something to eat. One guest had a piece of chicken and had to cut it into slices to give other guests that hadn’t gotten their meal I would strongly discourage anyone from thinking of booking their special day at this venue.
Do not book a wedding a Racebrook lodge. This place is not prepared for catering to a large group of people. Most importantly, they did not serve enough food and they ran out of liquor. Chairs were not set up at the dining tables, not enough bartending staff and food service was incredibly slow. We were served food more than an hour and a half after the schedule. When the food arrived there wasn't enough for the table. Many people were hungry!
Nice place. But room wasn’t ready until after 5. Even though we received text that room was ready before 3. Tacky decorations. Kids playground is dilapidated
They gave someone else our room despite confirming that morning. No admin staff was on site. It took us 45 minutes to locate someone to help and to get the situation sorted out.
They finally “upgraded” us to a large room that was moldy and had a bathroom with a floor that was rotting in places. Staff we did encounter on property were nice but had difficulty resolving our room situation because they had to connect with administrators off site. They felt bad for us. They finally told us that they gave our room to people with our same name. Do you believe that? Rohrbach???
We had heard it would be funky. We were ok with that. We did not expect such a decrepit place.
Even the final bill was not straightforward. I guess it was correct.
Cozy and rustic, the room had a lot of character, antique rugs/furnishings, old pine floors, and exposed wooden beams on the ceiling- cute cabin/cottagecore vibes! beautiful property with lots of trees, close to hiking trails, short drive to other attractions. Breakfast buffet was great too!
A beautiful relaxing location and facility. We took an early morning Berkshire mountain trail hike and then partook of a most delicious Sunday brunch.
Very recommend this place. Everything is very comfortable and a lot to do on their property including an amazing pool, ping pong table, different fireplaces etc.
Ok
Very rustic, don’t stay here if you need modern accommodations, but the room was comfy and clean, the food was excellent, the bartender was top notch, and we met the owner over a drink! Great place!
Nice older place with a pool and comfortable bed.
Wonderful property, food, relaxation, and friendly staff.
Rooms are dated and rooster woke us up at 4:30am.
