Cute boutique hotel. Very clean. Extremely nice & attentive staff. Overall wonderful experience.
We stayed in the “king suite with sea view” room & it was a bit cramped. Possibly too much furniture or it’s too large for the room. Also, sink water pressure is awful. Shower was luckily way better.
Overall we had a wonderful stay. The staff is super attentive & nice. Our only real “complaint” would be the “king suite with sea view” room is a bit cramped. The furniture is nice, but possibly a bit too large for the space. Our room was impeccably clean & the bed was very comfortable.
Valet was amazing & so easy! 10/10 for him.
The night of our stay there was an alarm & you could smell something, but the PFD got there quick & we were let back up in about 30 - 40 min.
Bartender was funny & did a great job navigating all of us that were suddenly crowded around that area of the lobby.
We had a great time & would recommend this hotel if you are looking to avoid the big chains.
What a great hotel in Portland, Maine. We really enjoyed the stay, from the beginning to the end. Staff was very helpful, the room was great and additional services are great. There is a great restaurant just across the street or you can go downtown and use the complimentary "taxi" service.
This was my first time visiting Portland. I was wise enough to book a room at the Longfellow. Upon my arrival I was greeted to a warm entrance with a beautiful bar and renovated space. As a Hilton member, I was upgraded to a room which was spacious, clean and filled with natural light. The concierge was both friendly helpful and took me to my room herself to show me a tour of my room and all the amenities she went above and beyond as that, all of the staff. The café in the morning was delicious and I returned there for lunch due to my positive experience in the morning. I would recommend anybody this hotel upon their travels to Portland and can’t wait to return myself again soon.
Teeming with good taste and earth-care. I highly recommend. And the one Longfellow square music venue nearby where I had the pleasure of performing.
Absolutely everything.
There wasn’t a single thing I disliked.
Loved it! Every detail was appreciated, and the staff was super friendly. The central air was quiet, and the bed was VERY comfortable. The gym and spa were great too.
My wife and I went for my birthday. Really great stay. Service is a touch above other hotels. Great breakfast sandwich. Good drinks in the bar. Even good coffee in the room!
We enjoyed our stay . The room was quiet and comfortable. We enjoyed the different amenities offered . The staff did a great job helping us feel comfortable and welcome.
The Longfellow Hotel is one of the nicest boutique hotels I’ve stayed in. Exceptional service and kindness from everyone. The bar is outstanding and the food we ate was delicious. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. Highly, highly recommend thus hotel.
CAVEAT EMPTOR. It might have been a wondrous value for the cost, except that the lure of mid-week free valet parking, as advertised, was entirely ignored in the billing
for my stay. And that smacks of bait & switch business practice. I would decidedly
tell anyone looking for Portland accomodations to skip this option summarily. This is a genuine, negative review, perhaps valid only for my own experience and not for anyone else.
Due to a 3 year renovation on our home, we have enjoyed every hotel in Portland at one point or another. The Longfellow has been the best addition to our beautiful city. We absolutely love the attention to detail, quality of construction on the well-designed new building, but what really makes it head and shoulders above the competition is the quality of the staff. Anyone who travels knows the staff is everything-- and this is the most warm, professional, welcoming, fun and brilliant staff we have ever experienced. (We do a lot of international travel as well!) We love the individuality and how much each person is treated with dignity by the hotel's brilliant ownership. Each person from housekeeping to the upper management is a joy to be around. They represent what we love about Portland as a whole, and individually have treated us and our children like royalty, despite our very extensive stay (and needs sometimes!) Fantastic gym, yoga, sound baths, spa, sauna, great food and company from mornings in the café to late nights at the beautiful bar. Luxurious study on the 5th floor if you need to get away from the hustle and bustle to get some work done. Great beds, sheets, beautiful views, and all dogs treated like honored guests. : ) A perfect hotel, Grand Budapest style. Truly we cannot recommend The Longfellow highly enough, thank you all!
Our stay at Longfellow was so nice. Very accommodating and everyone working there was so nice which made the stay experience so much better. I will be staying here everytime I visit now.
Everything about the Longfellow is wonderful! From the comfy beds, to each and every employee, it was a great stay. Best robes ever! The cafe has delicious breakfast and smoothies. The overall decor and vibe is boutiquey and streamlined. It’s now my go-to for Portland
My stay at The Longfellow Hotel was absolutely wonderful. The style of the hotel feels so authentic—beautifully designed without feeling overdone. I loved my room from the moment I arrived.
One evening I sat solo at the bar and had some of the crispest, cleanest raw oysters, followed by one of the most delicious burgers I’ve ever eaten, paired with a salad that was pure perfection. The people sitting next to me asked about the oysters, and we struck up a conversation. It turned into one of those lovely, spontaneous travel moments.
Next thing I knew, the bartender upgraded my room, and I ended up in a suite with an enormous soaking tub. After dealing with multiple storms and canceled flights during my trip, walking into that space felt incredibly calming—safe, peaceful, and beautiful.
The service was warm and thoughtful, and the whole experience felt personal in a way that’s rare these days.
Next time I’m in Portland, I will absolutely stay here again—and I’ll definitely be back at the bar.
And if you go, ask for Metta!
Loved the hotels BMW that would drive you to where you wanted to go. Friendly driver and great to not have to find parking in the city.
Room was well designed with all the creature comforts and was clean and cozy.
Loved that the bakery my daughter wanted me to get her biscuits was right next door. They were yummy.
It was a nice touch to have the desk person escort you to your room and give you the layout of things. Felt strange at first, but appreciated. Also that same woman looked up places where I could find onion soup and lobster bisque. They also communicate with the guest through text. There are no phones in the rooms.
Paying $45 for parking, but it is the city.
Having to ask for creamer for the coffee in the room, also the French press coffee wasn’t the best coffee but that could have been operator error.
Loved that they had free carafe of water, and big bottles of shampoo and conditioner but they don’t recycle. No bins for that, but that might be a Maine thing.
A little bday staycation, 30 minutes from home. Felt much farther away in a good way ;) Fantastic service, well curated touches such as French press set up w/ locally crafted mugs, and luxe convenience of hotel car ride to & from dinner in the Old Port. This was year two, definitely intend to keep the tradition going.
The Longfellow Hotel is a delightful experience. I have stayed here before and this time was consistent with my visits in the past. The atmosphere, the team, the lovely rooms, the service.... it is all top-notch. It is, by far, my favorite hotel in Portland.
This was a special trip to celebrate with family and friends and a visit to the Longfellow Hotel in winter. It was lovely, and warm. The lobby amenities made it easy for me to invite 10 people to gather. The bar is terrific as is the Five Of Clubs menu for small plate options. Everyone loved the food and drinks.
One of the nicest things about the Longfellow Hotel is the complimentary transportation with the hotel town car. We used the car more than once to drop us off for shopping and dining, and to were picked up when done, loved that.
This hotel is quiet, with the rooms feeling luxurious. I highly recommend it.
I was looking for a getaway close to home that offered spa services along with a good fitness option. I booked a mid-week special that included complimentary valet service and scheduled both a massage and sauna session — I was 100% satisfied.
The hotel clearly invested in the fitness center. The cardio equipment is Technogym, and the gym itself was impressive — treadmills, upright bikes, kettlebells, free weights, benches, a squat rack, mats, and an assortment of resistance bands.
My only small complaint was that on the first day, there was no water in the Berkey dispenser, and the container of wipes for cleaning equipment and mats remained empty for the entire stay.
I have multiple food sensitivities and follow a plant-based diet, so I was thrilled with the breakfast options at the café (the chef is vegan).
They also offer a car service — an electric BMW — though it’s first-come, first-served and doesn’t start until 11 a.m. That said, it was always available when we needed it, and most places were within a comfortable 20-minute walk.
As others have noted, there’s no phone in the room, no digital key card, and no drawers. There is some shelving in the closet where we could hang a few items, along with a bench at the end of the bed. We stayed three nights, so it was manageable.
The bedside tables are quite small — enough space for a beverage, but not much else. There is, however, a French press in the room with good coffee and tea bags, along with lovely ceramic mugs. Just be careful — the mugs have no handles and they do get hot!
