Mangrove Dongdaemun

I booked the single room without hesitating as I really enjoyed my stay back in 2024. However, things seem to have changed drastically since last time.

First of all, the place is not as properly maintained as it used to be. My room was not cleaned well upon check-in and hair strands were found all over the floor. The carpets had stains and the elevators were never clean everytime I used them. My neighbors a few doors down decided to dispose of their trash in the hallway. The bags were left untouched for the longest time as pictured.

There was no hot water in the mornings and when I reported this to the front desk, they simply told me to “shower later”. The staff was never helpful in other instances during my stay and rarely on sight so it seems like guests are left helpless in case of an emergency and every issue here needs to be self-resolved.

The laundry room was a huge mess as well. The garment steamer was broken and leaked water everywhere and unlike last time, the washers were dirty and not equipped with detergent. The guests had to purchase their own. I feel like this contradicts their philosophy of being “environmentally friendly” when travellers like myself who are staying just about a week or so have to purchase a big container of detergent that will most likely be thrown away upon departure.

The kitchen had no single-use napkins and the garbage bins were overflowing, so I ended up avoiding most of the commonly used areas.

Also, the fridge in my room kept making the loudest noise.

During my 12 day stay, I witnessed only one elderly lady cleaning the place and it seems like she is the one who is doing the majority of housekeeping which explains why the place is so poorly maintained. Obviously I was not expecting 5-star hotel hospitality but the single rooms were not exactly cheap here.


Just like the other reviews have stated, the location is good.
