This historic building is in a perfect location to visit Coimbra. The amenities are sparse so if location is more important than luxury then this is the place for you.

Nous avons beaucoup aimé la facilité du check-in. Il est intéressant de dormir dans une ancienne pharmacie. La chambre était quand même assez spacieuse. Ce qui est assez rare en Europe!

Hôtel fort joli, sur la rue la plus animée de Coimbra. Notre chambre ne donnait pas sur la rue et c’était donc malgré tout très calme, sauf peut-être quand des gens marchaient dans les escaliers. La terrasse commune sur le toit était coquette et permettait de boire son café le matin avec une belle vue sur la ville. Tout se faisait très bien à pied à partir de l’hôtel. Nous avons beaucoup apprécié notre séjour!

Music was blasted until 1:00 a.m. The rooms don't have AC which would be okay but the fans provided in the room where all broken and the only way to stay cool was to keep the window open. The music they were blasting outside was so loud it made it impossible to sleep. We informed the front desk and they said they were unable to help us and that the room is non-refundable. These conditions were unacceptable and we ended up checking out early and losing out on two nights and finding a different hotel to sleep in. I highly recommend saving your money and going somewhere else.

What an amazing place! If you want a true experience of Sintra, this is the place.
The balcony was a huge plus.

It was a good place to stay for a few days. It’s right in the middle of center city and you can walk to the main sites and restaurants. It’s a historical building that used to be a pharmacy so that’s cool. However I would not stay there longer than a couple days and next time we plan to stay in somewhere that offers in room refrigerator and not historical. There is a tiny common kitchen but it’s not convenient. It’s also set up for you to enter and exit on your own with no front desk person most of the time.

Great location. Very large room. Staff were super helpful with AC problem. You will not regret booking this hotel. If you have mobility issues, you may struggle getting your luggage down the street since its a pedestrian only street.

Absolutely perfect! The Pharmácia Guesthouse was everything we hope for in a guesthouse. The owners have kept the original Victorian Pharmacy shop entrance and it's beautiful. It's also situated in a perfect place from which to explore the old city. We arrived in the morning and were greeted by Juan, the receptionist, who helped us store our bags in a safe place, as check-in wasn't until 3 in the afternoon, and showed us around. The Guesthouse doesn't serve breakfast, but there is a little help-yourself kitchen with a Delta coffee pod machine, kettle, toaster, microwave and fridge stocked with milk. There are fresh, individual muffins, biscuits and fruit to which guests can help themselves. There is also an excellent café-restaurant A Brasileira opposite the guesthouse which opens early in the morning.

Our room, no. 7, a twin, was at the back, and very quiet and peaceful. Beautifully furnished and very comfortable, with a shower that could be adjusted to accommodate even a hobbit like me. Fire safety notice was clearly displayed on back of door with a fire extinguisher on landing on every floor. The long window looks onto a small outside space below, and catches the sun in the late morning/afternoon. After a particularly exhausting pootle around (Coimbra has some very steep bits), I spent a very pleasant couple of hours by it in a comfy chair with my feet up, reading.

The Pharmácia also has a little roof terrace accessible at all times, that overlooks the main street, Rua ferreira Borges, a nice refuge from which to look over the city rooftops.

Juan, the receptionist, is on duty mornings and afternoons, and a great help. We also met his dog, Alfred, when Juan was on his break and saw us have lunch 🐶

If you're looking for a truly different, very comfortable guesthouse in Coimbra, you couldn't do much better than the Pharmácia. We loved this place.

It is on a lively and vibrant pedestrianised street, minutes from shops, bars, cafes and restaurants. Open the balcony doors and you are in the midst of Coimbra However, shut the double-glazed doors and “presto”, all is quiet and restful. It is the best of both worlds.

Pharmacia Guesthouse is beautiful and cozy (in all the best ways). Excellent location. Wonderful staff.

Hôtel situé dans une rue piétonne très passante 24/24 - la mauvaise isolation sonore de notre chambre ( donnant sur la rue ) et les jeunes fêtards de Coimbra ne s’arrêtant de chanter qu’au lever du jour nous ont ruiné le séjour. Une mise en garde de l’établissement aurait pu aider. Le prix n’est pas justifié, loin de la !

Sehr nett und cozy

The guesthouse was in a great location in the Old Town. It had an interesting lobby with character and the rooms were lovely. They offered a small area for self service of coffee and muffins off the lobby. The owner/manager was very friendly and helpful. Walking score was exceptional. Would highly recommend!

The overnight stay at Pharmacia Guesthouse was a great find. I was very impressed that I cane across this location when I visited Coimbra. Very nicely located in the center of the Main Street. The guesthouse was very safe, clean, spacious and easy access to the city. The room was large enough to relax, Juan was great with details for dinner. Highly recommended! This was our best stay in Portugal.
