A sure comeback
Excellent stay. Very attentive staff, the rooms are amazing and very comfortable.
The location is great and the services provided exceeded my expectations.
I highly recommend this hotel.
Exceptional accommodation conditions, beautifully designed. The combination of wood, stone and glass creates an atmosphere of immediate serenity.
The staff is outstanding: professional, attentive and always available.
The food is equally excellent.
Highly recommended.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Absolutely Sublime Family Getaway
We had an amazing stay at Sublime Comporta truly one of the most special places we've visited as a family. The combination of relaxed luxury and natural beauty is just perfect.
The landscaping is stunning every detail feels thoughtful, blending seamlessly with the pine forests and sandy surroundings. It’s a place that instantly calms you down.
We loved spending time at the padel courts they’re beautifully maintained and a great way to stay active while on holiday. The beach club is another highlight: laid-back yet elegant, with crystal-clear water, great food, and that signature Comporta vibe.
What really stood out, though, was the genuine, friendly service. Every staff member we met was warm and attentive without ever being over the top — it felt truly authentic.
Perfect for families looking to unwind, reconnect, and enjoy nature in understated luxury. We’ll definitely be back!
We spent a few days at Sublime Comporta and fell in love with this part of Portugal — peaceful, authentic, and surrounded by nature. We played padel, enjoyed a wonderful spa treatment, and spent afternoons at the beach club, perfect for long lunches and sunsets.
The team couldn’t have been friendlier — always happy to help with anything we needed. Everything feels calm and relaxed, yet perfectly taken care of. We left completely recharged — it really is a sublime place to enjoy time together.
To visit sublime for the first time requires some expectation management. From an interminable queue in Lisbon Airport passport control (45 mins) to another queue to collect a prepaid rental car to a near 90 minute drive towards Comporta - this is not an easy start to a weekend break.
However, on arrival, the calmness of the forest accommodation does alleviate some of the stress.
Good - but expensive - accommodation, friendly and efficient staff and excellent food in the nearby restaurants coupled with daily visits to the not quite so nearby (15 min drive) beaches made for a pleasant break.
"Un hotel rural excepcional. La decoración es impecable, con un estilo que combina modernidad y tradición en perfecta armonía. Las habitaciones son amplias, cómodas y muy bien equipadas. Las áreas comunes y exteriores están diseñadas con gran cuidado, invitando al descanso y la desconexión. Las amenidades son de primer nivel y la gastronomía es sencillamente deliciosa, con productos locales preparados con gran calidad. Una experiencia completa que supera expectativas.
Muy recomendable."
Honestly, the best place we've stayed in the last few years. The location and setting are easy to get to (flying into Lisbon). The food is exceptional (a few more vegi options would not go amiss but when I asked for things to be adapted it was no problem at all and they were amazing). Staff are like nowhere else I've ever stayed and so many staff. The spa is small but perfectly formed. The gym is huge. The Beach Club is really special and such a fab place for sunset and dinner. The transport to Beach Club is added bonus. I could go on and on. I liken it to Atzaro and Soho Farmhouse having a luxury baby. Both can only dream of being as well run but that kind of vibe. A really special spot and cannot wait to go back
We have really enjoyed our stay at Sublime Comporta. The villa style rooms offer privacy and immaculate housekeeping. We have also taken full advantage of the pillow menu; particularly enjoying the aqua gel pillows. The breakfast is exceptional due to the high quality ingredients - the fruit and vegetables on the buffet are super fresh and premium quality. The gym is well air conditioned with a good variety of equipment. I would like to give a special mention to the staff who are accommodating and friendly.
I do have a couple of niggles with the overall experience -
Firstly, the hotel has a series mosquito problem. Mosquitos are a problem across Comporta but the indoor hotel lobby/bar appears to have more mosquitos than anywhere else I have visited. It is difficult to enjoy a drink in the lobby whilst constantly swatting mosquitos away - or worse being bitten. More should be done about this.
Secondly, the beach club is well appointed but the prime position at the beach was taken up for most of our stay. The beach seats are supposed to work on a ‘first come, first serve’ basis but the front row seats near the ocean were mostly unavailable although generally empty during our stay. When we enquired about these seats, we were told that the owners of the hotel had reserved them. Of course, there is no arguing with that as it’s the owners prerogative to sit wherever they desire. Saying that; as a seasoned traveller, I find it extraordinary that the proprietors would deny their paying guests the opportunity to enjoy the prime seats during peak season. Their preference being to leave them empty.
Absolutely great hotel which we loved and would return to. There are some things worth knowing:
- The hotel seems to attract an active clientele. The gym is great, but packed at 8/9am and very quiet for the rest of the day. It would be good if they could unlock all parts of the gym early so thet it can all be used at the busy hours. 75% of the space (everything except the weight/cardio room) is locked until the host arrives.
- There are more possibilities for exercising outside the hotel (biking/running) but the hotel seems to actively discourage it (bad idea to run outside the hotel). Is this a liability issue? Admittedly the options probably require a short drive (running in the rice fields is stunning) but the hotel staff seem averse to it
- The food is excellent at all the hotel’s restaurants. Much higher standard than I expected, and as good as any comparable hotel I can think of. It is worse making bookings ahead of time if you are coming in season. We arrived with nothing, and got what we wanted after a bit of work. Jacare, Mesa and Cavalarica in Comporta were also excellent. Everywhere was very fairly prices compared to a comparable level in the Med.
- Beach club is gorgeous. Easy to get front row beds in July IF you are there by 11am. The restaurant is great.
- Car charging is easy (by relatively pricey). We got given an EV as an upgrade at the airport, and once I had mastered the MIIO app, it worked ok. You really should have a car here. Distances aren’t far but parking is easy and flexibility was appreciated.
Stand out things:
- The staff. Just wonderful. Natural, friendly, professional…. Great
- Food Circle. Not my sort of thing in principle (nearly 4 hours with 12 strangers with multiple small course). BUT the food was exquisite and worth every Euro.
- Wine tasting. The Sommelier is a lovely guy and we sir enjoyed learning and tasting. A real pleasure and an excellent intro to a less-known market (and why it is less known is well explained… nothing to do with the quality!).
- We had Padel lessons. What a blast, and such an engaging pro.
If there were one recommendation for improvement it would be to build a lap pool. There is almost no opportunity to swim here, which is sad when you have the ocean (too rough) and many many individual pools plus a couple shared pools. None have the dimensions for laps.
This place is an oasis of calm & serenity in an albeit calm & serene (apart from some construction across the road) part of Portugal. The "resort" has it all, amazing accommodation (we stayed in a villa, if you get a shot and you like to look out over nothing, ask for 34) , impeccable service, lovely bar, quality food, a really amazing beach club etc. High end, top dollar but worth it.
Comporta. My one gripe. It's agricultural around the resort. There are rice fields everywhere. That alas equals mosquitoes. All five of us got bites at various times and covered in citrus repellent. Without mosquitoes its a 6 out of 5. Comporta town is a mix of rustic, cool, high end restaurants and down to earth bars. Some good shopping for those who don't own enough Hamptons like gear (there are plenty of cool Portugese brands and shops). I wish I would remember the name of the fish restaurant in the middle of town where we had Sardines. So good. One other thing, its not "remote" but its a solid 1.5 hours to Lisbon and its all motorway to get there, short of a couple of rest stops there isn't much on the way in. So, amazing resort, relatively unspoiled but that will change, more resorts, more people are coming. Its a place to relax (spa, pool, eat, beach !) and chill (well it was for us!).
Nestled in the woods behind a gate which you can easily drive right past if you sneeze, this hotel is a collection of single story villas and low rise buildings which blend perfectly into their surroundings. The 45 rooms/villas are all surrounded by the natural forest. Many of the villas have their own swimming pools. The main swimming pool for the hotel is set a few steps from the main lobby in a clearing adjacent to a large fire pit and snack bar. An outdoor hot tub is also close by. The setting is quite nice and my only complaint here is that there is a major fly/mosquito issue which gets in the way of one enjoying their time at the pool. The hotel supplies repellent spray to mitigate the problem but this does not really solve the problem. We stayed in room 5 which was a decent size and nicely appointed. There were, however, a few design flaws in my opinion. First, there was no place in the shower for one to place a razor, shaving cream, a wash cloth, or anything else for that matter. While this allowed me to practice applying shaving cream while holding my razor in my teeth, this is a skill that will likely do me no good outside this hotel. Second, the glass door to the shower was too low to the floor for it to open without moving the bathmat - the glass door to the toilet area, however, was an inch or two above the floor and did not have this problem. Lastly, there is little, if any, privacy between the shower, the toilet area, and the rest of the bathroom area. I will acknowledge that these may seem like “first world” problems, however, the prices for this resort are “first world prices” and, in my view, these are easy fixes with some forethought. The hotel has two main restaurants - the modern Sem Porta and the more traditional Portuguese Canalha Comporta. We ate in both and both were very good. The staff is very friendly and eager to please - a particular shoutout to Pedro at the lobby bar and his personal specialty old fashioned infused with chorizo and sporting a piece of charred chorizo on top. While not on the beach, the hotel has a beach club approximately 10 minutes away and provides shuttle service throughout the day. The beach area has a private section for hotel guests only and a Restauarant operated by the hotel. Towels are supplied by the hotel at the beach. There is a snack bar on the beach that delivers to your lounge but I would not recommend it. We tried it once and the food was passable at best. The food in the restaurant operated by the hotel will require you to leave your lounge chair but it’s worth it. If you have a car and want to be completely on your own schedule, parking is approximately 4 Euros per day. The hotel is building an addition across the road which, a staff member told us, is expected to be three times the size of the existing resort. Hopefully that they will fix some of the nuisance items I mentioned above. All in all, a very nice couple of days.
🏨 Room Quality
The room was EXCELLENT. We were happily assigned a room located very close to the reception, and especially the gym (which we used daily).
Bed and linens were very comfortable.
TV had Chromecast, and while it is a bit finicky, I was able to get Amazon Prime streaming from my iPad.
🚿 Cleanliness
Room and bathroom were very clean, and they came by twice -- so turn-down service was included.
Given this resort is essentially in the middle of a gigantic forest, I appreciated their attentive efforts at cleanliness since it is extremely easy for a fly or two to get in.
Shout-out to Mohammed who was very friendly and cleaned our room each day.
🌐 WiFi and Connectivity
The Wi-Fi was included and it worked well.
👥 Staff and Service
The staff are the "secret sauce" to this resort. Huge shout-out to the GM, Miguel Plantier, who was extremely helpful. We also enjoyed meeting his colleague Miguel Silva who greeted us at check-in.
Aamir at the front desk went above and beyond to help us, especially on the first night to get into their pop-up onsite restaurant Canalha which was booked up that night (we didn't want to drive at night into the town about ~10-15 minutes away -- that's where most of the restaurants are located).
Generally, they went ABOVE AND BEYOND for anything we needed. My wife ran out of dental floss, and they got us a replacement in the morning for super cheap. I also was dealing with a sports injury to my knee, so they were great about sending ice packs to my room each day.
🍽️ Food and Beverage
The hotel has 2 primary restaurants -- their pop-up (which may not be open, depending on when you go), and their main restaurant called "Sem Porta" (which literally means "without a door") and is located next to their check-in area at the front desk.
We did breakfast at Sem Porta each day, and we did their dinner on one night.
FOOD CIRCLE is an absolute must -- this is a special dining experience that is only available for about ~10 people (there are only ~10 seats) and it is Tuesday through Saturday (closed on Sunday and Monday to give the chef those days off). All of the food is cooked directly in front of you in an open fire. It's like a Michelin Star-restaurant type of experience, but in front of a campfire -- super intimate and was a huge highlight.
My wife and I also did a private PICNIC that was very cost-effective and was the #1 highlight of our entire trip to Portugal (we also visited Porto and Lisbon). It was ultra romantic, and the setup was just phenomenal -- glad that we coordinated the menu in advance.
🏊 Amenities and Facilities
They have world-class amenities -- for example, we did the gym daily and it is state-of-the-art (there is even your own boxing ring, which I've never seen at any hotel before).
Onsite parking is free and plentiful.
🌇 Location
The hotel's "signature" is their Beach Club, which they also own, but it is about a 10 minute drive from the hotel (there are shuttles too). Given that the hotel is literally situated on a gigantic forest, kind of impossible/impracticable for there to be a beach so I totally get it.
We did the Beach Club briefly, but the weather wasn't super warm so we entertained ourselves with other things.
DEFINITELY go into the town, which is about 10-15 minutes of a drive. We went during the daytime and visited a lot of small/cute shops, restaurants, etc. and enjoyed it immensely (the hotel also highly recommended it).
💵 Value for Money
Sublime is not cheap so expect to pay what you would similarly pay at any world-class resort anywhere else in the world.
Overall though, I felt it was a very relaxing "wellness" like experience.
📝 Extra Notes
Make sure to rent a car -- most likely you would do this from Lisbon since that is the closest city. The drive itself is extremely easy (a little more than an hour), but the only hassle was the actual renting process since we got it from Lisbon Airport and it is definitely congested (like an international airport would be). In hindsight, I would have rented it from somewhere in the city or an easier pick-up location. We also screwed up the reservation by inputting a day earlier than we needed so we had to pay a huge amount for the only automatic car that they had left.
This secret hideaway is really sublime! The mediterranean scent of pine trees and the overall feeling of natural luxury give you an instant feeling of holiday and relaxation. The team of people are really really friendly and helpful. Great restaurant, truly the best breakfast all fresh made. Nice open spaces with all wood and nature elements. The villa is cosy and very relaxing. Great facilities. An absolute recommendation!
First thing’s first - the staff are wonderful. Thank you all for being so friendly and helpful.
However, I unfortunately do have to say that Sublime Comporta is not a quiet retreat, despite being sold as such. This is what I wish I knew before checking in:
The resort is located on a main road, and in most villas you will hear every car that passes. We had a one bedroom villa with pool (Villa 18 - which was by no means the closest to the road) - and all you can hear is traffic. This meant that the outside space was unusable (to us, who were looking for a quiet break).
We had specifically emailed in advance to ask about noise (and even mentioned road noise) - and we were told that the resort is quiet and tranquil, and in the middle of nature. This is just not true.
We were offered a change of room, but the alternatives were:
- Sharing a villa with other guests, including sharing the pool, and losing the living room, kitchen and bathtub; or
- Paying more for a three bedroom villa which was huge and pretty unsuitable for just two people.
The other thing to note is that a lot of the accommodation is indeed shared - so your villa maybe actually be split between families. This may mean that you are staying in one bedroom, with other people staying in the other bedrooms and you share a corridor / pool. Very odd! I haven’t seen anything like this elsewhere. On the final night, guests were moved into the second bedroom of our villa and their dog barked loudly and constantly - such that it could be heard three rooms away (with all doors closed - the doors/walls are all extremely thin).
Pricing - our one bedroom shared ‘villa’ was nearly EUR1,000 per night, off season (we stayed before Easter, in April). Food is also expensive, and varying in quality - see other reviews. So value for money is low (you could stay at a Four Seasons for similar prices - we usually do and really wished we had done).
On checkout none of the above was reflected in our bill. We were offered a consolation box of strawberries.
We then had to ask for a discount (on principle you should do have to pay for such a disappointing stay) which was just so embarrassing. No-one with sufficient authority was available to authorise more than 50% off a single night (of a 5 night stay) so as our taxi was waiting we paid this and left. A terrible way to end the stay. We were then later given a further 50% off one night - meaning that we were given 1 night free stay out of 5, that we literally had to demand. So embarrassing.
Positives -
The staff were lovely, and I felt a bit sorry for them. Our noise complaint was clearly very common and there wasn’t really anything they could do.
The place looks nice in pictures.
It is very family friendly - loads of children everywhere and organised activities (eg a treasure hunt).
All in all, for a tired couple working in law/consulting who just needed a quiet break from London, this was not the place at all, so for us it really was one star. So, so disappointing.
We stayed in the master room villa which consisted of 3 rooms with a private pool for these 3 rooms. The room was very nicely designed and had a nice terrace where you could relax. The staff were very kind and helpfull. We will definitely go back.
The natural setting and the design of the hotel are both absolutely stunning, hidden in between pine trees and beautiful lush gardens, this hotel is a real gem! The food and beverage is also great, one of the nicest breakfast buffets and also with fresh egg dishes and special drinks that can be ordered from the menu at no additional cost. The staff is very attentive and genuinely kind and helpful. Dont miss the hotel’s beach club that is also impressive, both for its setting on a beautiful beach and the fabulous food!
The best hotel we have experienced in Portugal!
Sublime Hotel offers an exceptional experience with top-tier service, exquisite dining, and luxurious accommodations. Nestled in a beautifully integrated natural setting, it provides the perfect escape for relaxation and tranquility. A true haven of comfort and elegance!
