AVOID AT ALL COSTS! DISGUSTING HOTEL
Pros:

When we arrived, the receptionist was asleep on the sofa and had to be woken up. They had us down for a one night stay despite me contacting the hotel weeks before arrival explaining we had 3 separate bookings all under the same room type and for them to be combined to avoid room changes. We were given the wrong room for the first night, which was tiny, noisy, had dirty sheets, old frayed bath towels, filthy walls and a broken air conditioner. We were moved the next day, but the new room also had dirty floors, dirty bed sheets, filthy walls and a filthy bathroom accumulating mold with an unpleasant smell from the shower. Also on the third morning of our stay the hotel did not have any running water whatsoever for around 3 hours. Unable to shower, wash or brush your teeth we had to wait for repairs to be made. This may be the worst hotel I have ever stayed at !

Mike, the hotel manager, sold us a $70 per person Ninh Binh trip, promising a 5-star Michelin meal, swimming, cycling, and a hotel pickup. We even paid extra for a 7:30am limousine transfer. However, the receptionist woke us up early, then knocked on our door saying the guide was already waiting. We rushed and left unprepared—only to find no car waiting, just the guide. We were made to walk 10 minutes to the pick-up point.

At Ninh Binh, we had just 1.5 hours to climb and return—no time to explore or rest. Returning on time, the guide still acted annoyed. Lunch was a cold, low-quality buffet with inedible food, nothing like what was promised. The restaurant staff were rude and made us feel unwelcome.

Mike told us we’d have the opportunity to swim during the lunch break, but the tour guide had no idea about this. It was clearly false advertising. After lunch, we visited a temple, which felt like a last-minute filler to stretch out the tour—it was underwhelming and added little value.

Overall, don’t be misled by Mike’s friendly smile and fluent English. We were completely misled and overcharged. He came across as insincere and seemed mainly interested in making money and collecting tips. Also, do not let him pressure you into leaving him a review there and then! The only genuinely kind and helpful person was the young female receptionist—she was polite, warm-hearted, and truly stood out amidst an otherwise disappointing experience.

I reviewed this hotel first on Booking.com which the hotel was made aware of. They have since contacted me via WhatsApp asking me to remove the review!! To which I refuse to do so as I believe it is not fair for people to be misled and ripped off!

Please guys! AVOID THIS HOTEL AT ALL COSTS!! The good reviews on this hotel I believe some of them to be disingenuous somehow.

Final tip: Do not use the message place opposite the hotel. Their prices are high taking advantage of the guests coming and going. Just around the corner are much cheaper prices for the same service!

A compact and wallet-friendly hotel in a great location.
Pros:

Tunger Grand Hotel stands out for being budget-friendly and located right in the heart of Hanoi’s Old Quarter, with everything you need just a short walk away. While some reviews mentioned street noise, we didn’t have any issues during our 3-night stay. The front desk staff were really friendly and helpful, and they even let us store our luggage while we went on a Ha Long Bay cruise, which was super convenient.

On the downside, the rooms are quite small - but for the price, it’s probably understandable. Also, there’s no breakfast offered at the hotel, but that’s not a big deal since there are plenty of places to eat just outside.

If you're after a wallet-friendly spot in a great location and don’t mind a compact room, Tunger Grand is a good choice in the Old Quarter.

Avoid visiting
Pros:

We were very disappointed in our room - it was very dirty and unsafe. When we arrived, the receptionist only had us down for 2 nights instead of 3 even though we had a WhatsApp message from another staff member to say we had been confirmed for 3 nights. When we arrived in our room, there was half eaten food in the room as well as other rubbish. The walls were filthy, the shower was falling off the wall, the towels were dirty and frayed, the air conditioning was dripping and mouldy, and overall the room was not as advertised. We were offered to look at other rooms but we did not feel safe in this hotel and have lost trust in this company. The receptionist advised us to try and make a “no show” claim to help us get a partial refund. It was only after we accepted the no show that we were told there was no chance of even a partial refund. We understand that there is booking.com policies, but the room was unacceptable. Very disappointing.

I had an incredible stay at this hotel!
Pros:

We had an incredible stay at this hotel! The location was perfect, close to everything we wanted to see and explore. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, especially the guys at the reception—they gave us so many great recommendations for the city and went out of their way to assist us.

Our room was fantastic, with a lovely balcony that added to the experience. Everything was clean and comfortable. I truly enjoyed my time here and couldn’t have asked for a better stay.

A huge thank you to the entire team for making our trip so special! I already recommended this hotel to my friend who’s traveling to Hanoi soon—she’ll definitely be staying here too.

Super location, great staff, incomplete facilities
Pros:

This is not a new hotel and it is a bit scruffy. It is overpriced for a budget hotel. We were disappointed with some aspects our rooms.

The triple room balcony has great views, but had old windows and doors stored on it! The room had mould, mildew, peeling paint and torn furniture. None of it too bad, but very scruffy!

It is also extremely noisy, with a cacophony of snarling vehicle horns 24 hours a day penetrating my room.

Most of the glass was double glazed, which was great, but I think the renovations are not completed and one of the windows was old and let in a lot of noise!

The bed mattresses are very hard and not comfortable.

Despite all this, I cannot emphasise enough how friendly and helpful the reception staff were, especially Chi and Angh. They had good English and lovely helpful personalities. All the other Hotel staff were similarly wonderful!

They offered to remove the construction waste from the balcony!

You will love the staff! I think the quality of the venue will be improved in the future. Maybe they will finish the reservations and you won't be able to see the sky from the service stairwell!

Pros:

Awesome location for all things Hanoi. Walking distance to anything you’d want to see and right in the center of the nightlife. We watched street performances from our balcony. It’s a great spot.

Good location but ton of noise
Pros:

The room is not bad but the noise outside was incredibly inconvenient. There was construction and all sorts of sounds at all hours. The place is very convenient as it's a few minutes from beer street. There are plenty of shops around the area so that was nice.

In the middle of the action, great hotel, excellent service
Pros:

This hotel was what we expected. Very cheap. It is located in the Old Quarter and literally a 1 minute walk to all of the action. Beer Street is less than a 3 minute walk. It is loud here alot of the day and into the night so be prepared. Windows are single pane. With the air conditioner on and a sleep app on our phone we had no problem sleeping. Beds are comfortable, great patio view of the goings on below. Mike, Tony and Lucas were all fantastic helping with directions and booking trips for us. We really liked being right in the middle of the action so for us it was a good stay. If you are planning on sleeping in, you won't lol. So much to do within 15 minutes of the hotel, great food, fun nightlife.

Very kind and accommodating staff!
Pros:

The hotel is just around the corner from the Jasmine Hostel Tour Office so ideal to stay here the night after coming back from the Ha Giang Loop. The staff were really generous and kind. They let us store bags with them during the day before our stay, check in at 3am and shower the evening after checking out. Minh was super friendly and accommodating to backpackers, she even offered to refill our water and charge our phones. Very grateful!

Couldn't have done more to help.
Pros:

Elite communication before and during stay from Pham. Couldn't have done more to help. Organised taxi pick up from airport, waves, smiles and a hand with luggage when I arrived. Superb location. Used hotel as a base and they kep my luggage whilst I did short hops. Very comfortable bed and lovely cooling sheets. All staff really friendly.

Very Good Service
Pros:

We were here for 2 nights. 30/1/24 and also 2/2/24. Location of hotel is perfect for bus trip to Sapa. The location is also good for walking around old quarters. Lots of food available around the surrounding.

Service provided by hotel was excellent. Most friendly people in Hanoi. Very helpful and nice.

Room was clean. With a nice balcony facing in front. Would highly recommend.

Thank you all for making our stay in Hanoi memorable and happy.

Pleasant Stay
Pros:

Recommend this accommodation for mid-range budget level. Room was clean and facilities provided were neat. Overall pleasant experience at Tunger Grand Hotel .Stayed there for 5 nights. Location was perfect as it is bang in the middle of the happening place of Hanoi, so easily accessible to all popular spots. I do like to specially call out Mike Nguyen (the receptionist) who was really helpful to assist me with room related matters.
