First of all the resort is beautiful and very quiet.
However the hot food for breakfast was at best luke warm and usually cold . This should not be the case at any hotel but certainly not at a resort like this.
I also think waiter service around the pools should be included in this type of resort, also the fact that only one pool bar offers food ourside of the hours of 1pm to 4pm is frankly ridiculous.
Rooms were fine and very quiet but i got the feeling the resort coukd be much better.
A lovely hotel. I regret not having stayed before. We were looked after so well by all the staff. The hotel is so clean and tidy inside and out. I couldn't fault it and we are returning in August this year for two weeks. The hotel is good for all ages , having visited the baobab many times I can honestly say this is way better.
Really lovely hotel. Pool and spa and breakfast were amazing
A little pricey
This was our second stay at the hotel, but unfortunately the quality has noticeably declined compared to last year. The hotel was not as clean, some room amenities like the vanity set were missing, and the reception service felt much weaker and less professional.
We also noticed that the restaurant no longer follows the dress code it had before, which took away from the overall atmosphere. It’s disappointing to see such a difference in just one year. Tiny details vanish first, then somehow the whole experience starts feeling cheaper. Modern hospitality in a nutshell.
Da cama, é excepcional. A variedade de comida que agrada a todos.
Pouca iluminação no interior do hotel em particular no restaurante e receção.
This is our third visit to this hotel and we have had another wonderful holiday. We stayed b&b this time but always opt for the unique service We have once again been well looked after by Zoilo, who runs the pool bar area. He is brilliant at his job, funny and a pleasure to see everyday, we look forward to seeing him on our next visit!
The addition of the Bevir restaurant is amazing. Can highly recommend the 14 course tasting menu and wine paring.
Beautiful looking hotel but whether its a 5 star... with some changes its possible
Reception team - so miserable, never smiled once & very very very slow - this is even after completing the online check in.
Room cleaning - the ladies are lovely & friendly but its obvious that they dont have enough to do the room cleans as there was a few days we where actually going back to the room about 3.30-4pm & the room had still not been done.
Rooms although spacious they are looking a bit neglected in areas
Breakfast - absolute carnage, luke warm food, very dark, & rude rude people pushing in, adults & children touching the food with hands then not taking what they have touched - best part is the made to order omelettes although be prepared to wait at least 20 - 25 mins if you want one
Pools - although they look very nice - there needs to be one of the large pools where there is no balls/inflatables (it does state no inflatables on the boards) - there is a quiet pool but it just didnt have the luxury feel, the sprays/waterfall in the pools didnt work either, the swim up bar is used for storage which is a shame as that pool would make a great adults only pool area.
Food at the pool bars isnt great either
Keep a check on your room charges as we were almost charged an extra €200 after someone charged an evening meal for 4 people in the restaurant to our room ( we never ate at the hotel in the evening) - luckily i saw the €200 on the invoice on check out & asked what it was for - really not good at all.
The restaurants as you go out the back of the hotel are really good - this is where we ate every nght
Grand Italia
El Caldero
Misbah
& La Sirena across from the entrance was good too
The cats are lovely & dont approach you at all but a couple do like a chin scratch & a bit of love - good to see they are looked after too.
We would return if there was a large adult only pool area & the rooms were given an upgrade that reflects the cost we paid.
Struttura meravigliosa!!!!! Non so trovare un difetto
Large hotel poor customer service, ridiculous and very annoying system with beach towels, breakfast buffet poor to average at best
The Lopesan Costa Meloneras location is perfect, with top-notch amenities, shops, and local restaurants right on our doorstep. One of the highlights of this destination is that you don't need to opt for a full-board package, as there are plenty of excellent eateries and bars to explore in the area. The hotel boasts four specialist restaurants, including the excellent steak and grill restaurant. The bedroom was spacious and impeccably maintained, and we enjoyed the evening entertainment during our stay. The hotel's drinks were reasonably priced, making it great value for money. We particularly enjoyed the incredible spa, featuring 12 relaxing rooms and experiences, followed by access to exclusive pools. So, will we be returning to this amazing hotel? Absolutely, and we can't wait to go back! The combination of excellent facilities, delicious food, and fantastic location makes it the perfect destination for a relaxing getaway
The Lopesan Costa Melonares Resort and Spa claims to be a 5-Star Hotel, but I challenge this notion, for the following reasons.
RECEPTION
When we arrived initially, at about 9.40pm on the 25th April, we were informed that, because we had missed dinner (our accommodation was on a half-board basis), a cold supper would be available in our room, but, when we initially visited the room, no food was in evidence. We decided to go to the bar for a drink and called en route at reception to report the missing food, upon which we were assured that the omission would be corrected. We returned to the room just after 11.00pm, but still no food. We again contacted reception and, eventually, at 11.30pm, the suppers we had been promised at 9.00pm arrived. Unfortunately, it was clear that the food containers had been without refrigeration for some hours and we judged that a number of items were not safe to eat. A complaint about the above affair was made to reception the following morning and, later the same day, a bottle of white wine in a cooler, two wine glasses and some chocolates had turned up in our bedroom, without explanation. We took this to be way of apology, for which we grateful, but the wine bottle had a cork and we had no corkscrew, nor was one provided, which we found hilarious. This tortuous tale came to the attention of the hotel's head of customer relations, who, on the morning of the third day of our holiday, called me on my mobile phone, as we were sitting by the pool, and, apologising profusely, invited us to have dinner at La Toscana Restaurant, at the hotel's expense. The way this event played out speaks volumes, in my opinion, of the state of management of that part of the hotel's administration; definitely not five star!
HOUSEKEEPING
The hotel's policy on bed linen changing falls below the standard of a 5-star establishment. We have spent our 8th night here, but the bed-linen and pillowcases have yet to be changed! Our room has coffee/tea making facilities, but one or more items are not replenished, on a daily basis. The standard of cleaning is poor: a stain from a coffee cup has only just been removed after five days. When, on two occasions, there no milk to make morning cups of coffee in our room, we called reception and were told, "Housekeeping does not start until 9.00am" and nothing could be done.
FOOD
The Gastro Market Alameda, otherwise known as the Half Board Restaurant (not a very upmarket name in a five star hotel) is a rather depressing place and feels like the cafeteria of a motorway truck stop. The lighting in the enclosed areas is atrocious and very patchy. The seating is of numerous different styles in very mixed arrangements and many of the seats have very low backs.
Apart from occasional flashes of brilliance, the food is mostly bland and uninteresting and many items subjected to being kept warm on hot plates do not survive well. This particularly applies to egg dishes. At breakfast one morning, I had what purported to be eggs benedict, which were served in aluminium containers and left on a hot plate. The muffins had toasted until they were almost rock hard, while the ham was rubbery. It didn't of course kill me, but it was not five star and the same could be said of other offerings. I had beef lasagne one evening, which was full of pasta and sauce, but the beef was very hard to find. In addition, many of the staff in this restaurant appear to be disorganised and not well-managed. It is often difficult to have used plates cleared away.
MAINTENANCE
Many service items in any building require routine maintenance and/or repair and it feels as though this area is not well managed or under control. For example, the gentlemen's toilet near the foyer bar has been mostly dysfunctional for most of the first week of our stay. Initially, one urinal was blocked off as out of order, but, by Friday, both urinals were out of order and, with regard to the soap dispensers next to the two hand wash basins of peculiar design, one was loose on its mountings, while the other was devoid of a supply of liquid soap for the whole week.
It must presumably be someone's duty to keep these things in order, but where is the management to make it happen?
We have stayed previously, some years ago at the Costa Melonares Resort and consider that standards have been allowed to decline, while prices are very high, especially for drinks, where the range is more restricted than it once was. Clearly much has been spent on a refurbishment of the lobby area, but more attention appears to have been given to eye-catching design features than to practicality and comfort. A high proportion of the seating is very low backed and dull uninteresting colours predominate.
Al in all, we do not feel that the hotel now warrants a five star rating. It is perhaps at the bottom end of four star if not the top end of a three star.

After staying in both sister hotels, we were genuinely excited to finally experience this property. On arrival, the first impressions did not disappoint , the hotel itself is stunning, and the pools are beautifully maintained and impeccably clean. The rooms are also spacious and comfortable, which added to the initial positive impression.
However, the experience quickly became mixed. We opted for half board, which we regretted almost immediately. The food quality was disappointing, with limited variety and often only lukewarm. As other reviewers have mentioned there are microwaves available in the dining area, which raises the question: why would you need to reheat food in a five-star hotel?
It gave the impression that the buffet offering is intentionally underwhelming to encourage guests to dine in the hotel’s paid restaurants, and there was a sense that premium guests may receive more attention.
Room allocation was another issue. We were initially told we’d been upgraded to a pool view room, which unfortunately overlooked a large shopping mall with bars hosting loud live music every night from around 22:00.
The following day we requested a move, we were offered the “garden room” we had originally paid extra for, only to discover that the “garden room view ” was actually the roof of the dining hall covered in artificial grass. This in its self is misleading. I was informed the only option was to pay extra for a pool-view room, and after negotiating on the price, we agreed to move.
Throughout this process, the reception staff came across as cold and uninterested. Having stayed in several five-star hotels, this level of service was surprising and disappointing, and it has made us reconsider booking with this hotel group in the future. There were also several other drawbacks: the Rio river area had very limited sunbeds, many of which were in the shade, and there is a strangely designed sunbed area between the Rio river and infinity pool where beds face each other rather than offering any kind of view. The food at the pool bar was also poor; we ordered a burger that arrived almost immediately, was lukewarm, and not cooked as requested, and we later realised they were pre-cooking and keeping them warm. There were also security concerns, as the hotel allows open access from the promenade, with a constant flow of non-guests passing through, which made it feel less secure. In addition, there were not enough waiters taking drink orders during the evening entertainment.
On a more positive note, the evening entertainment itself was enjoyable, the tree pool area was warm, quiet, and relaxing, and the housekeeping staff work tirelessly and deserve recognition.
Overall, while the hotel excels in aesthetics, cleanliness, and room comfort, the shortcomings in food quality, service, and room transparency significantly impacted our stay. With improvements in these areas, it could match the expectations of a five-star experience, but in its current state, it falls short.
