Modern friendly and clean

Perfect in every way
Pros:

Room was beautiful and spotless. We loved the biscuits with the ground coffee bags. The staff were incredibly welcoming and helpful.
Parking round the back - little pricey but is owned by a different company

Cons:

Main road is a little noisy but didn’t spoil our stay

“Dreadful Experience !”, extremely unhelpful, inexperienced staff. We arrived for a two night stay at the New Holgate, during the first day of the UK heatwave. We went to our room after check in, but found it very warm, I tried to open the window, but it is restricted to 3 inches of opening.There is no aircon. My wife then went to reception to request a “Fan”, but the member of staff said there were no fans, and the owner won’t buy any. He then gave her an “electric convector heater”. We tried this the first night, but it was noisy and ineffective. The following morning after a hot , bad night's sleep, I went to reception and asked again for a Fan, as we had a bad night's sleep. They said there were none, I requested to speak to the owner, but was told he does not speak to customers. I suggested they should buy a £20 fan, as it would be impossible to sleep that second night, and that day was forecast to reach 30 degrees. They said no, and asked us to leave the hotel. We could not believe the attitude of the staff/owner. We then found a lovely hotel close by, for the second night., and guess what, the first thing they offered us was a “Fan”. The whole experience at the “New Holgate” put a dampener on our break in York.

Pretty cosy guesthouse with great breakfast!
Pros:

Wonderful - comfortable, clean, friendly staff and great location
Pros:

Staff were amazing - so helpful and friendly. Comfortable and clean rooms. Such a good location - only short bus ride into town or 20 minute walk.

Cons:

Nothing! The only thing is some of the add ons (parking, breakfast etc) were a bit pricey.

Comfortable stay, friendly staff, reasonable price
Pros:

Location was great for intended purpose (Work at the Holgate Park Drive), could walk from station and to work too.

Cons:

It was not clear initially that the hotel had no air conditioning and I was nervous about the impact on my stay during the heat wave but somehow the room remained cool throughout, and the fan helped too

Lovely hotel would consider returning
Pros:

Good location and nice clean hotel . Also room was cool despite the hot weather . Lots of nice touches such as chilled water, fresh milk and quality biscuits. Lovely staff.

Parking was very expensive. Shower overflowed one morning but staff dealt with it

A value for money overnight stay in a lovely hotel ideally located for York city centre.
Pros:

We appreciated the early facility of parking the car before booking in later in the afternoon. Staff were very welcoming and helpful. The Holgate Suite was comfortable and spacious. The entry system is straightforward and easy to use. The hotel is conveniently located for both walking or taking the bus into York.
