Lovely bespoke hotel near city centre
Pros:

Really lovely room, great staff, breakfast and short bus ride to city centre. Lovely added touch of birthday decorations for my partners bday!

Cons:

To get milk you need to request from the reception. This is fine but there's no mini fridge in the room so you have to use it shortly after you request it from reception

A fantastic stay in this friendly boutique hotel.
Pros:

The whole experience was fabulous. The room was spacious, the staff welcoming and friendly and the breakfast was outstanding.

Cons:

Nothing really. The location is a little way from York City Centre - but it is easy enough to get there on the bus or walking. Our room was at the front so adjacent to the busy main road - but we were were not that bothered by the noise.

A hidden gem. Dog friendly. 100% definitely stay again
Pros:

Nothing to fault. Staff very friendly warm and welcoming. Room was so comfortable and everything we needed. Breakfast was superb. This place is a hidden gem. Definitely stay here again.

Excellent value and service and will return on our next visit to York
Pros:

The staff were extremely welcoming and attentive. The room and communal areas were well appointed and carefully considered. Great value - York can be quite pricey however New Holgate was fairly priced and great value and service.

Cons:

Some domestic sounds did disturb in what was otherwise a quiet and peaceful night

We went down to York for a one night day and we couldn’t be more pleased with our choice of Hotel

We will not be returning

The rooms are a nice style but there were so many little things that went wrong - there were no glasses in the room, not enough towels, the booking says luxury toiletries are provided but we only got a cheap handwash, there was a coffee machine at breakfast but no coffee pods.

Do not stay in winter!

We had to check ourselves in due to staff illness. Once inside, we found all these little problems so tried to resolve them - most happened in my parents bedroom as they were in a basement bedroom which must not be used very often.

The biggest problem in the lower bedroom was cold and damp - not what we wanted in February when celebrating my dad’s 80th birthday. The thermostats in the rooms didn’t work so we had to be told how to change the overall temp control for the building. This fixed some radiators but not all, so the bedroom was cold.

The staff tried to be helpful to resolve these issues but the owners obviously don’t care about customer service. The person who was on after hours service did not answer. Luckily I had the contact details of another member of the team as they told us how to get in, so he did help with trying to get the heating working.

We asked for a free breakfast which the weekend staff kindly agreed to, and the chef cooked a very nice meal - it was fresh and hot. So some of the details were done well. And the staff that tried to help, were polite and friendly.

I have rung the hotel 3 times to iron out these issues and ask for an apology, but the owners ignore the messages and do not care. The photos show the damp patches and that the hotel is not well maintained.
Hence why I am having to leave such a bad review.

Gorgeous clean rooms and amazing breakfast! Great location with parking (£20/ night extra).

Perfect short stay for a night away
Pros:

Lovely room and breakfast was excellent. Located away from the centre but within walking distance. Private car park which had charging for an electric car. Was able to pay for early check in which was really helpful for us.

Cons:

I would have loved a bath in the bathroom.

Pros:

It was beautifully decorated, clean, felt premium and all the staff were super friendly. It was really quiet too which was great and only a 5 minute Uber to where we needed to be in the city centre.
