Professional property host/manager
Um hotel muito pequenino que fica sobre um pub, claramente foi uma hospedaria há 500 anos, mas os quartos históricos tem todas as comodidades. Pessoal atencioso, especialmente Mira. Amamos
I arrived at the Funky Monk at 4.45pm and the manager was very pleasant and told me that they had some live music that night. I jokingly said I hoped they provided earplugs. Having had a night out with friends I arrived back at the hotel around 11.30pm to be greeted by music so loud that I could hear it on the street. When I got to my room the floor was vibrating with the noise and it was like there was the band were sharing my room. I put earplugs in and a pillow over my ears to try and deaden the sound but it had no effect. I looked at their website which says they do have live music that ends at 12, it said nothing about the decibels they allow. They had give me a number to ring out of hours but no one answered or got back to me. At 12.15am I went downstairs and they said they could continue until 12.30 - however it continued until12.55am. If they want to be a hotel they need to soundproof the rooms. What most people want when they book a hotel is to be able to sleep - this was impossible in the Funky Monk. If you also want this then DO NOT stay in this hotel. These are not cheap rooms, money has been spent on the decor rather than making it a place were you can actually sleep. I shall never stay here again and would not recommend it to anyone else. There was no gas for breakfast on Monday morning!!
Amazing place ! Staff went above and beyond, highly recommend. Great welcome, felt really looked after, thank you so much.
Will stay again !
Fab !
Great location .
This stay was
Took a while to check in. Took even longer to check out. Everywhere in the area closes very early and the only option if you’ve not preplanned
The rooms , service and food , as always are a funky delight !
Parking is very limited. Rooms were dark and small and in need of renovation. The bathroom was freezing and extremely small. There was no hot water. The breakfast was nice and the staff were lovely.
This is a lovely boutique hotel with quirky rooms and decor situated in a lovely little town with some lovely little shops and cafes . We especially loved Gail’s bakery !
The staff were very friendly and helpful but be
Prepared for loud music and parties into the early hours as it’s a popular weekend and Christmas venue !
Would definitely stay there again !
A beautiful old hotel in the heart of Epping. The decor is really nice and the staff are warm and friendly. The room has everything you need and the bed is comfortable. The food (breakfast and dinner options) is exceptional. I would highly recommend this hotel.
The hotel provides a lovely space to spend time. The service was excellent with great food served in the room. We particularly liked breakfast being served AFTER 0900 allowing for a sleep in and relaxing morning to check out. A rare treat
Absolutely beautiful boutique hotel , right in the heart of Epping. Couldn’t fault anything about it. The room was amazing staff were lovely , we really enjoyed our stay
Amazing stay!
5 stars all the way
Really lovely looking hotel inside. The decor is really inviting. Chic and cool and a bit quirky. Absolutely love it. The bar restaurant is very roomy as well.
The staff were very helpful and friendly. The manager or owner even offered to carry my heavy bag out to the taxi after storing it for me after checkout.
My room wasn’t big, but I only had the standard one. Beautifully decorated though in the same quirky and comfortable vibe.
I would definitely try this hotel again next time. It’s brilliantly positioned for the heart of Epping which was great as I had no transport.
The one problem I had (which is why I didn’t give 5 stars was with the door key which you have to use to let yourself into the building at night as well as into your room. Luckily my key worked that night but stopped again first thing but i was able to find a lady cleaning who let me in again. Apparently this was an unusual problem which I’m sure they have sorted out already
If definitely stay here again. Lovely people very helpful and kind. Breakfast in the restaurant was lovely 😻 .
Great
Mixed feelings about this property! My room and bed was very comfortable, the towels were big and fluffy. The staff were lovely... however, the kitchen closed so we had to go elsewhere for dinner, and no staff was on hand when I awoke the next morning and had to hand in my key to the cleaning staff.
The accommodation was lovely and the staff were friendly. However, I've given 4 stars as breakfast isn't served until 9am - we used the hotel for business purposes so a late breakfast was unsuitable, given the cost breakfast should have been available.
Rooms are very well appointed, comfortable food is great and the welcome is genuine and professional.
One issue is the noise from the road, as the room I was in looked out over the high street, the traffic is pretty constant until late in the evening and starts up again very early in the morning. I believe because it is a very old building they are not permitted to change the windows but perhaps secondary glazing might be an option.
