Lovely hotel. Rooms are very clean and each room is different, which gives it a really nice feeling of individual character. The staff here are really nice, the people on reception are very helpful - Ciaran - (sorry if spelt name wrong), Joanne, Irena - (sorry again if spelt name wrong) and the Manager are all really lovely and very welcoming. Really nice hotel and staff. As well as very good price. Good view also, right opposite the seafront.
Last minute weekend away . The hotel was right on the seafront , perfect for walks . I found it strange that the receptionist asked me not to park in the hotel car park at the rear of the hotel because they did not have CCTV there . She advised me that it would be better to park outside on the road. I did . The area around the hotel did not look ropey , though .
Our room was clean and tidy with all the usual amenities . Tea tray, TV, clean bedding and towels etc . There were toileteries provided .
We slept well ,no noise to report .
Breakfast was included , served in the breakfast room at the front of the hotel , over looking the sea. Again, well organised and clean surroundings .
The serve yourself buffet was adequate . Toast , scrambled eggs , bacon and sausages . The cold table had yoghurts , fresh fruit , cereals and juice.
Coffee and tea were brought to the table .
All was as expected for the price .
For the love of god do not stay here grubby, seedy, dirty hellhole.
First impressions weren’t great as we passed the cracked hotel window and were met with a rather frosty welcome at reception.
Upon checking I noted the carpets were dirty and heavily stained.
This theme continued into our family room and you got a sense that a crime had been committed in there at some point. If the deeply unpleasant, stale painted walls could talk I feel they’d scream PLEASE HELP ME. The curtains were also stained and the window wouldn’t shut. The toilet was faulty and we had a view of a rusty old fire escape. It was freezing cold in the bar and dining area and there was a constant haze of weed in there. We werent made aware this place was being used as a bail hostel, and we noticed many guests with electronic tags on!
Breakfast was disgusting with a dreary plate of barely cooked scrambled egg and bacon. The photos on the website looked nothing like our room and we were 100% cat fished with the booking. Needless to say we won’t be back.
Let’s start with the positives: the WiFi occasionally works! Plus the location is quite central to where me and my party were needing to be.
On the flip side of this…the rest of the stay was like a dystopian nightmare. The receptionist was friendly enough…and multi tasked not just reception duties, but also bartending duties, electrical work when the power invariably goes down throughout the hotel, and he also brings your coffee in the morning at breakfast. He didn’t strike me as a person who was passionate about his role in the hotel, and could often be heard muttering phrases such as “yeah blame me why don’t you” and “it’s me that does everything around here”.
The room I was in was very tired looking. No fridge, no hairdryer, no complimentary water, and latterly, no electricity which meant no hot shower. I’d regard all of the above as just ‘basic’ for any hotel stay. I’m sure Maslow would agree.
As you leave the room to walk to breakfast, the stench of stale air-fried food hits you with more force than a Mike Tyson punch to the face. It’s disgusting. Breakfast itself was not good. Sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs, hash brown, plum tomatoes and mushrooms. All cheaply bought in, overcooked, tough and in the case of the hash browns, stuck to the bottom of the pan. They literally needed scraping off the bottom of the pan, which of course made them disintegrate before making it to the plate.
I’m not sure if this hotel still houses refugees or rehabilitating prisoners, but some of the ‘regular’ guests would definitely fall into this category. It also seems a good place to take your dog as I walked down my corridor on the first floor, and heard various iterations of small dogs barking / yelling and launching themselves at the inside of their bedroom doors. Probably to escape…
I won’t be back, and would urge anyone who is thinking of staying here, to consider your own mental fortitude first. This place is no picnic
Great hotel on seafront near happy mount park with free on road parking and post box outside of hotel reception bright and friendly staff lounge area with bar it is a bit dull needs brightening up restaurant serving breakfast not the best but it's adequate for what it is lift to all floors my room was 2nd floor double with Seaview clean room with all u need and extra large bathroom with bath for a soak after a day out however there are 2 steps in bathroom which I didn't like and the noise from other guests is ridiculous the walls must be thin there was a scouse couple arguing for other 2 hours in the room above didn't get to sleep till half 1 apart from that a good hotel in a good location however wouldn't stay agin due to noise
Turned up to be told no idea of the booking, and the manager turned up after a 10 minute wait. To be greeted by I'm not going to get home till 10pm at this rate. ( Was that my fault?) Then to be told your booking has been cancelled l refunded you this morning. No email, phone call or text to tell us about the cancellation. So I think you have to be able to read minds if you want to stay here. Customer service skills are very poor. Told us to try a hotel down the road but the damage was already done. I saw better customer service watching faulty towers. Still waiting for the refund but out of pocket for fuel and travel. Try this place at your peril
Based on the sea front within walking distance of the town centre. Met with such a warm down to earth welcome. Pet friendly too. Room warm and clean. Could benefit from a mirror in the room for us that use a hairdryer or straighteners, although there is one in the bathroom. Soap provided in bathroom, so remember shower gel, shampoo etc if required. Breakfast value for money. Buffet style, but plenty of selection.
Nice hotel, with lovely sea view rooms. Friendly staff, and great breakfast. Didn't use the car park as was able to park roadside outside. Only down side was that the shower did not drain very well. Reported to receptionist on leaving so that they could get it sorted.
Hotel was ok. Friendly, good location and functional.
stayed at this hotel 4 times location is ok breakfast at 8 pound value for money staff are friendly welcoming inly drawback is needs refurbishment bit tired and dated but clean bed had mattress protector on glad really as bed stained i would stay again
The staff were excellent and very friendly, helpful. The room was clean and spacious.
Perfect view of the ocean. A good budget hotel
Although the hotel was overall good, especially for the price and location with the sea view, and the staff were very friendly, it is overall a bit dated, but that is ok. However, the biggest problem is the noise; every time someone walked past, things creaked, the doors could be heard opening and closing throughout the night, and the water was quite unbelievably noisy. Anyone having a shower, I could hear the water rushing through the pipes....so not really a good night's sleep both nights I was there.
Would not stay here again
Once again the Trip advisor reviews are mostly miserable so I will counter balance that.
Just returned from a 5 night stay at the Strathmore where we were staying , along with our Flat coated Retriever Willis , to celebrate my husbands 'special' birthday .
What a lovely time we had. The room was clean , decent size and equipped with the usual tea, coffee , toiletries supplied and 2 towels each, which you can not say about all the hotels we have stayed at. The bed was very comfortable and I have no issues with the decor, curtains or carpets.
The hotel was just the right distance from town for pleasant strolls to get an evening meal . We also had no issues what so ever will parking opposite on the prom , or outside the hotel on the same side of the road.
The staff where lovely and friendly and particularly welcoming of Willis. We have stayed in and eaten at venues which although describe themselves as ' Dog friendly' are more 'Dog tolerant' I would say . However I can not say this of the staff at this hotel.
A particular shout out to the lovely friendly manager who was so lovely to Willis I think she would have taken him home with her if I had let her..
So all in all, a lovely hotel with friendly staff and very tasty breakfasts.
To all those who are moaning on Trip advisor, I say to them stay at home if everything is so bad your judgemental standards can' be met , and try to be more supportive of the hospitality industry.
Friendly and welcoming staff.
Room was clean and a good size.
Bed wasn’t very comfortable. To create the double they had put together two singles but top and bottom rather than side by side…
Unfortunately the chef was sick so I had to eat elsewhere.
For the cost I would stay again
Thin walls so noise from adjacent rooms. Breakfast crockery was dirty and damaged. Terrible sausages and coffee. The frontage was neglected and overgrown. Staff were friendly and the room rate was reasonable.
Property was in good condition
beautiful views
Only stayed one night. Everything was okay until two drunk guys next room banged their door at and started to watch at 2 am with lots of loud commentary. The wall was quite thin. The
