A new hotel
For a new hotel no drinks on tap no kitchen open breakfast was served at the hotel next door.could do with a grounds person to give the hotel a good jet wash outside and clean the ashtray what was over flowing
Position and nothing else
No hot water, air con switches off, stuffy. Staff wasn’t interested. And parking was restricted and expensive.
Excellent location, and good value when it’s cheap.
Never enough staff, when will the management address this? Check-in takes too long, and check out was delayed after being requested to pay for parking which we had not used. We only stay here when it’s cheap to be fair, not as good as a Premier Inn but there is no PI in Paignton.
Nothing
Everything
This is an excellent location very clean and the staff were great excellent breakfast also
Nothing
Had parking. Good location. Room was well priced and had what I required.
All hotel rooms no matter the price should be cleaned to a very high standard. There was hairs on the bed sheets, the bathroom had been poorly cleaned. You could see dust and hairs in the corners of the room and shower. Walls of the shower had black marks etc. underside of the sink had a trail of tooth paste. No bin bags in the bins, so when you made a cup of tea etc. the used tea bag had to go straight in the bin. Overall poor attention to detail.
The staff that I did interact with on check-in and check-out were very friendly and professional however were working alone on both occasions. So when checking in and out they would be interrupted by the phone ringing and would leave me standing at reception for quite a few minutes whilst they answered the phone. On check out this also meant a guest that came down for breakfast wasn’t being served as they were also handling serving the breakfast. So overall the staff were lovely, but staffing level wasn’t sufficient,
Clean hotel, nice location. the 2 young men working in reception seemed pleasant and enthusiastic. The restaurant was closed but the recomended Tapas bar a short walk away was nice.
it was not clear when booking that the breakfast was infact served in the Mercure hotel down the road. yes its next door but you must walk along the pavement and cross a road to get breakfast then present a ticket to the staff at the Mercure hotel. parking is £15/night, expensive for a gravel car park. the basement garage was full or there were spaces unusable since the others had parked across 2 spaces. the Resaturant was closed. There were a large number of young, single south asian men staying at the hotel in a group, not sure what they were there for (coach trip, conference, home-office accomodation?), it didnt present me with a problem as such although there was quite a lot of noise at around 1am in the corridor. my room was a wheelchair access room, the bathroom was huge but didnt seem very clean partiulatly the floor and the toilet.
Great stay hotel staff very good
Breakfast was a bit chaos but they were about 150 guest at once shortage of cups but it got sorted
The location
Car Park was not explained properly when we checked in and the reception staff very slow.
As others have noted, when you book into the Ibis Styles in low season, you get "upgraded" into the Mercure hotel next door - it seems the Ibis is closed when it's not busy. This review is therefore based on the Mercure rather than the Ibis. Hotel was clean and modern, room was a reasonable size and decor was good. Reasonable sized desk in room. Tea and coffee making facilities were available and room had small fridge (although I'm not convinced it was working - light came on but nothing placed in it seemed very cold).
As others have noted, breakfast wasn't great - there is one station for hot drinks, at which a queue inevitably builds up. Bacon an sausages looked anaemic, scrambled egg was a pale, solid lump sitting in a puddle of water, fried eggs had run out and weren't replenished. Continental option appeared to comprise fruit and some very sad looking ham and cheese slices but no rolls. Cereals and yogurt were available together with some sort of electric pancake making machine - which was malfunctioning when I visited. Sign at entrance to restaurant said "wait to be seated" but having waited ages for a member of staff to appear, I gave up and just went in. If not booked in advance,, breakfast costs £18,00 - if I'd paid that much, I'd be very disappointed.
Parking is charged at £15.00 per 24 hour period. Car park is under the hotel and spaces are very tight to the extent that some are virtually unusable with a large car. The number of spaces is also limited. Outside peak season, free parking is available on the street outside - although there were no free spaces when I arrived at 9pm. I don't necessarily object to paying for parking but £15 is steep seeing as the car park doesn't seem to offer any greater security than just parking on the street for free when space is available.
When my plans changed, I was able to extend my stay relatively easily but my plans changed again and I had to leave early (6pm on the evening before I was due to leave), there seemed to be some confusion about whether I could get a refund for unused parking. I initially paid for a 24 hour period that I didn't need. I'm still not sure what I've been charged for. I also couldn't get a refund for the next morning's breakfast.
Room was stuffy - no opening window, no instructions for air con controls, air con not particularly effective and kept switching itself off.
Short stay very nice clean rooms
The price of drinks in the bar very expensive.
It was a nice location
We checked into a room that was ‘ready’ to find dirty towels in the shower, the shower grate lifted up with dirt in it, barely any toilet roll, the hood of a pervious guests coat in the wardbrobe and mud on the bed. Someone was also trying to open out door whilst we were in bed. (We being myself and my 7yo daughter) we were not told about the spa downstairs had we of known we would have used it.
I liked the room ,bed, shower it was clean
When i checked in at 3pm the receptionist said he could not move me to another room.
Even though he did it quite easily for another guest.
Plus i asked for another duvet.
Which i had to ask for more thsn once i did not get one until about 9pm
No food in the hoteli enjoyed
Location,staff
The bed was to hard and only 1 chair in a double room
Good location
We had not expected to have to go next door to The Mercure for breakfast although fortunately it did not rain and the breakfast was excellent!
Initially member of staff could not find our booking and took a long time to do so, which worried us a lot. He looked under my name, then I said John Webb, my husband and even gave him my Booking.com confirmation sheet and reference number. Eventually he found it under Mr Webb, having checked all the names already apparently! We were delighted to have a room with sea views when we did get to our room. Comfortable bed and good shower.
Easy to find, large car park, bright, modern, comfortable rooms
nothing
