Important information:

The hotel is currently undertaking the construction of a new commercial annex building located outside the main hotel building, which will be connected via a link bridge. The project is scheduled to commence in March 2026 and is targeted for completion by December 2026. The hotel remains fully operational; however, minor disturbances may occasionally occur in Deluxe and Pearl Suite Without Balcony rooms located near the adjacent structure during approved working hours (8:00 AM – 10:00 PM). Mitigation measures, including room reassignment and upgrades (subject to availability), are in place to ensure guest comfort.

Complimentary Nyonya Hi-Tea (Redeemable once during check in) is valid for bookings with a minimum stay of two (2) nights, for stays from 5 April to 31 MayPlease inform of your expected arrival time in advance. A 5-star gem in the heart of Georgetown's best spots
Pros:

Location, location, location.
In the intersection of Argyll Road, Penang Road, Chulua Street, minutes away from Canarvon, Muntri and Kimberly Street and the vibrant Live Lane, The George is truly in the heart of everything that matters in Gerorgetown.

The George is lovely, and luxurious with friendly staff and beautiful rooms.

Cons:

Nothing really. We did not take the room with breakfast because there is so much to explore food-wise in Georgetown.

Das Personal war außergewöhnlich freundlich und zuvorkommend. Es wurde uns stets mit einem warmen Lächeln die Eingangstür geöffnet - egal, ob es früh am Morgen oder spät in der Nacht war.
Die Lage ist unglaublich gut. Das Hotel liegt an den vier wichtigsten Straßen - Chulia Street (Bars), Jalan Penang (Penang Road), Jalan Argyll und Jalan Leith (Leith Street). Auch die bekannte Armenien Street ist fussläufig sehr nah. Wunderbares Hotel und eine klare Empfehlung!

Great location, luxury boutique hotel but leaking toilet & bathtub

Beautiful hotel, lovely room and very comfortable. Best part about colonial suite was the massage chair. Great location - easy to talk to eateries and explore the area.

Cons:

Our bathtub and toilets leaked. We slipped and nearly fell a few times. We informed the hotel staff of this but the issue was not rectified and we weren’t offered any room to change to (as initially offered by receptionist). We also were not offered any complimentary tokens as a gesture to make up for this issue with our room. Nor were we offered a partial refund for a room that had safety issues due to malfunctioning bathroom fixtures (leaky toilet and bathtub).

Great stay at the George!
Pros:

Always wanted to stay at The George, and finally did when there was a promo. Happy to experience a 5-star hotel stay in Penang!

Not recommend and not worth your money. Only location is good.
Pros:

Surprisingly nicely located and walking distance from the main tourist areas (eg bars-restaurants-food markets, armenian street, little India, Chinatown) and Chew Jetty is not around the corner but not bad walking distance.
Tip: Because of the heat we took the taxi only a few times, Grab works but taxis can be interesting-best to pay 2-3eur more and choose premium)

Cons:

Arriving at the property: the property looks nice and the doormen were the best throughout our stay. The receptionist/female assistants could be trained better to give more of a warm welcome and provide some more hearted service plus the hotel could hire someone extra. Had to wait a couple of times at least 20min before it was my turn and no apologies from them (except from one of the doormen) plus they treat you in a way to be done asap and help the next guest, not this type of hotel worthy.
Worst was the swimming pool. The hotel has quite some rules but apparently do not care and regulate swimming etiquette. Guests don’t take showers, use the pool to coolen their feet-leggs and even some people spit in the pool. It was disguisting and never experienced this type of swimmingpool behavior in many of the 4 and 5 star hotels we have been + the way the hotel staff dealt with this. Maybe just unlucky and happened to be there but it was just shocking + lost appetite to enter the pool. Also, the sauna (small room) was under maintenance the 3 days we were there.

The hotel is a bit dark inside so you do not clearly notice, but there are quite some scratches and parts that could be maintained better.

At last, their WhatsApp customer service, does not reply or answer at all other than a first automated reply. Disappointing.
