The ambiance was incredible. The common areas and garden were spectacular. Our room was beautiful and very comfortable. The location of the hotel could not be better. The garden abuts the surrounding wall of the old city and is located directly behind the minster.
A historic hotel that hosts amazing, spacious, and luxurious rooms. As a bonus, we managed to park our car on the site, though at an extra charge. But the history of this hotel and its decorations are phenomenal.
The pictures on the wall make you feel that you are in a museum or a gallery show intended to shock its audience. Pictures of naked children and Islamic warriors dominate. This did not match the setting of the hotel, which is a historic British town, or our intention, which was to see York and learn about the city.
Beautiful garden
Very elegant and stylish, not the cheapest but what a beautiful place, well worth the money, if you want an upper class hotel in York, this is your hotel, the staff are amazing and the gardens are beautiful, The breakfast is top quality.
The hotel is gorgeous and perfectly located -- the gardens are perfect and the food was delicious. The staff is extremely attentive and went above and beyond to ensure we had an excellent stay (even going so far as to mail us something we forgot).
The *only* reason I'm not giving this a 10 is that there's no AC, and also no screens on the windows. This meant a bee ended up inside the room when we got home and I had to deal with it before we went to sleep, which was annoying.
A fantastic hotel right next to York Minster. Exceptional quality throughout — immaculate rooms and a genuinely five-star feel from start to finish. The beautiful garden backing onto the Roman wall is a real highlight. The Minster is 5 minutes on foot, and the rest of the historic centre .
Helen, Kendall and their team could not have done more for us — warm, friendly and attentive at every turn. Highly recommended.they even went out of their way to set up a projector to watch the England v Norway match !!

Toplocatie dicht bij York Minster en city walls in historisch gebouw met toch moderne badkamer.
Niets. Enige bemerking : de matras aan de harde kant is (persoonlijke smaak).
everything, staff were amazing
it was very hot - a simple fan in the room would have made such a difference.
Beautiful location close to York Minster. Characterful hotel immaculately maintained. Friendly staff who couldn't have been more helpful. Delicious breakfast.
We return to this hotel every year. The team are fantastic, very knowledgeable and always professional. The breakfast is exceptional! We’ve stayed in the Cumberland, the Edwards and the Willoughby rooms so far and each time the stay was perfect. It’s ideal if you’re after an experience that is both luxurious and one that captures the historic beauty of York.
