Never could figure out how to get into the bar/restaurant below -- I'm not sure it was even open? So we never saw any other people/staff. But the room was very nice and comfortable. There are a lot of stairs to get to the rooms, so be prepared for that.
Room was nicely decorated and we did appreciate the fridge, and bonus ear plugs and eye masks, though we didn’t really need them as we stayed early in week.
The climb to the top was a challenge for us, but may not bother more able bodied people, but I wouldn’t want to try getting big bags up there!
My only concern during the stay was the lack of clear fire escape and or emergency details. Top floor and only one way to escape.
Whilst we were comfortable, price was good, and the hotel well located.. I wouldn’t stay again, because of my fire concerns. I did note that they appeared to have roof sprinkler system.
Character filled place with a lovely, quiet room. Great decor, comfy bed and a clean bathroom with a great shower. Friendly staff. 10 minute walk over scenic bridge to the heart of the university area. Recommend.
No staff on site and trying to find the door in was a bit of a chore as it’s Aaron’s the corner on Circus St. Room was very clean and done up nicely. No air conditioning so that could be a significant issue. They had a fan going and temps dropped a bit during the night so we werefine
I had a wonderful stay at the Mad Hatter! It was a convenient walk to shops, the Christ Church Meadow, restaurants, etc. The eccentric decorations on the property were adorable. The hosts were extremely nice and accommodating. Pro Tip: make sure you do the virtual check-in before you are too jetlagged to understand the instructions! I made the mistake of not handling the check-in until the last minute and I was so tired and confused that I had trouble with understanding the email and completing the check-in
The staff was extremely kind and patient with me.
A great hotel to stay at. Very quirky, friendly staff and good food. Very extensive drink selections ie cocktails and beers. Room we stayed in was roomy, very clean and facilities were excellent. Hotel conveniently placed via a short walk into city.
Quirky venue in a great location. Easily walkable for the conference I was attending. WhatsApp comms were super easy and responses within seconds. Was all I needed and loved the decor. Would stay again 100%
Good location within Oxford. The room was clean ans presentable with a comfortable bed and good size. This place would have gotten a 4 or even 5* review if it weren't for the loud music playing from downstairs. We were told this would stop at midnight, and so we made sure to stay out until past midnight. However, even returning at 1am, the music was still incredibly loud and bassy into the room, up until 2am. Do not stay here if you intend to sleep before 2am.
Loved it! Special shout out to the staff - especially to Jess
Lovely room, although extremely hot in Summer. We were grateful for a large fan left in the room.
The staff were quite standoffish and we felt like we were a hassle asking for anything, so that is the main reason we didn't give this 4/5.
Clean, modern, whimsically-renovated rooms and a superb location. Noise isn't really an issue. Staff is responsive and winsome. I look forward to returning!
Great room, but the entrance to the property needs attention.
Love the Alice in Wonderland theme. We stayed in Alice’s Chambers, all blue and white, very charming and pretty.
Everything was newly renovated and impressive. Fabulous shower with TWO shower heads and push-button temperature control. Very nice bathroom, although there was no outlet … is this a UK thing? We’re 1 for 4 so far on bathrooms with an outlet. Comfortable bed, plenty of hot water, lots of outlets, big TV, no on-site staff but excellent by-phone service when the Wifi needed to be reset. Plenty of restaurants and shops nearby, and an easy walk to the Botannic Garden, the Covered Market, a large park with a great view of the city, and the train station.
On the less good side, there’s no elevator and three flights of stairs with our heavy luggage was not fun. We tried to message them ahead of time for assistance, but Expedia said the mailbox was full and could not accept more messages. There’s a bar on the ground floor, very noisy at night until the live music stops - 10:00 one night, midnight the next.
A noisy bar reverberated into our tiny room each night. And it was a 3 story walk up with no lift.
Quaint hotel, lovely room.
Gorgeous room. Fabulous shower. Fluffy towels. And 6 mi Ute walk from the Bullingdon.
The hotel was amazing! Ideally situated Lovely themed rooms, very quirky and brilliantly authentic.
Spacious, clean, comfortable and great facilities. The staff were attentive and responded swiftly and positively to our communications about the booking. Attention to detail and an even a kind gift for my daughter’s birthday. Would certainly recommend.
Our room was on the top floor but sounded like the bar was next door. Music blared out until after 1am on Saturday night, followed by revellers shouting on the street. No chance of getting any sleep before 1.30am. No breakfast facilities and self check in. Staff (Jess) were very responsive, but service quite slow in the bar. A bar with rooms rather than a hotel with a bar.
Great rooms but a pub downstairs with skull crushing noise till 11pm each night in spite of the ear plugs provided ! A pity as the rooms and location are excellent.
Beautiful stay! Very happy we booked here, it’s close to Museums and vintage shops, cafes and the hotel/ bar itself is amazing!
