A very nice lady welcomed us to the hotel. The parking lot has space for 10 cars maximum but the hotel is located in the train station car park and we were able to get a space there. We had a nice large suite which was good value for the rate. The hotel is located in a relatively busy area and on a Friday night it was quite noisy - the windows don't shut completely so that could be improved. The bed was not very comfortable, breakfast was okay. The shower was good. Overall a pleasant place to stay.
We stayed at The Stroud last night for our anniversary and had the most wonderful experience from start to finish. We arrived around 7:00 pm (check-in is from 3:00 pm), and the staff were so accommodating. We were greeted by a lovely woman at reception who was extremely polite, cheerful, and full of useful information. To our surprise, she kindly upgraded our room to a suite, which really made our night extra special.
The suite was spotless, spacious, and beautifully presented. Later, we had dinner in the hotel’s restaurant, where once again we were welcomed by friendly and inviting staff who quickly got us drinks and seated us. The service was attentive but never rushed — just perfect. We were served by the same lovely lady from check-in and a young man, both of whom were professional, polite, and genuinely friendly.
We shared the baked Camembert to start (absolutely delicious — I’m still thinking about it now!), followed by the sirloin steak with peppercorn sauce and the truffle spaghetti carbonara, along with truffle and Parmesan fries that were to die for. For dessert, we enjoyed honeycomb ice cream and sticky toffee pudding — both amazing — and were also treated to their bonfire special dessert, which was lit at the table and such a fun touch. It was so good, but we were just too full to finish!
The next morning, we decided to have breakfast at the hotel, and we’re so glad we did. The gentleman serving us was an absolute joy — warm, welcoming, and always greeting everyone with a big smile.
Overall, we loved every part of our stay — from the warm welcome at reception to the beautiful room, the incredible food, and the fantastic staff who truly went above and beyond. Nothing was too much trouble, and they made our anniversary feel really special.
Thank you so much to everyone at The Stroud — we’ll definitely be back!
Fantastic place to stay!
Greeted by a couple of really nice chaps at Reception, unexpected upgrade from a Comfort Double to Junior Suite.
The room was very nice and spacious! Plenty of plugs and ports to charge at convenient places.
Coffee machine and fruit teas were a welcome bonus.
There was a fan in the room as there is no aircon.
I have 2 suggestions to make the room better. First that as the shower is over the bath, a handle to support in and out given how slippery it is.
Second, the windows rattle whilst open, something to stop that so the windows can be open at night without being a distraction would really make this place!
Lovely lunch with friends. Excellent friendly service, good set lunch as well as full menu. Well located by the station and shops
We were initially given a room which led onto a flat roof where workmen were having a smoke break. There was also some kind of extractor fan vibrating away too. This room was absolutely not suitable for guests.
Thankfully, after asking to be moved we were given a proper guest room on the opposite side of the building which was absolutely lovely. Spacious, clean and luxurious.
The building is very old and beautiful and full of character. It is in the heart of the town centre providing great access.
The bar was lovely and reasonably priced.
It may be worth mentioning that the hotel was next to a Wetherspoons with a beer garden. This stayed open till late at the weekend, but the noise didn't really affect us much.
The hotel had its own parking which was free and I managed to park there for the duration of my stay but there were not many spaces, so I felt lucky.
We had a fantastic stay at the Stroud Hotel. Our family room was lovely and the food was great. Staff are exceptional - stand out customer service.
Not really welcomed, no info about key fob or its use, no info on what’s available in the hotel. TV did not work.
Room was above pub. Yes understand it’s a Saturday night, so there would be noise. But the glass/beer bottles being poured into a bin in an area outside the window at 11pm was unwelcome.
We have stayed at the Stroud Hotel several times and have been very happy with everything. The rooms are charming and comfortable, the location next to the train station is ideal, and the bar and restaurant downstairs is cozy and welcoming. But the best part is the staff who make you feel so at home and looked after. They go out of their way to ensure you’ve got everything you need. I highly recommend The Stroud Hotel to anyone looking for a place to stay in the area - you won’t be disappointed.
A very special weekend made even better by the Stroud. A free upgrade to their best room made us feel like VIPs and a late check out too! The room was amazing, spacious, with a bathtub and separate shower room. The bed was big and comfy. The hotel made sure our room had a fan on this particularly hot weekend, drawing the curtains to try and keep it cool. Although you are next to the station and above the outside drinks area, we rarely heard anything. No trouble sleeping!
Only thoughts would be a mini fridge in the room to keep our drinks cold and having to go to the bar to find reception staff due to their split roles.
Great room and service despite driving very late. Lovely bar and Breakfast was good, will be returning next time I’m in the area.
Room was very comfortable and modern. Staff was friendly, and was cost effective room. The beer was a little bit pricey but a good selections so it did not matter too much!
Well appointed town centre hotel. It's central location meant limited parking.
Thoroughly enjoyed my stay here.
The staff at this hotel are unfailingly helpful and friendly and went above and beyond to help me when I got stranded here due to Storm Floris and train cancellations. They weren't able to accommodate me for the extra night but helped with sourcing other hotels and gave me a lift to my next accommodation once sorted. I am travelling alone with an invisible disability including mobility issues. They were so helpful and really kind at a time when I was feeling quite stressed. In addition to this exceptional thoughtfulness, the food was very good especially breakfast, well worth adding this to your room. The chef clearly cares about what he puts on a plate and it shows. The best breakfast! The rooms are comfortable, the showers great and it was lovely to have some pleasant non smoking outdoor space to enjoy in the good weather. The hotel is central and as such, not quiet at the weekends, especially with windows open to cope with the heat and a lively well used bar and restaurant. But the atmosphere is great. Again, whilst it's hot in the upstairs bedrooms, fans were supplied and staff doing all they can to keep rooms cool despite the heat wave. I really enjoyed my stay here. I couldn't walk very far so spent a lot of time in the hotel public spaces when not meeting up with family and enjoyed my time here a great deal. Quiet leisurely mornings and lively evenings. A good combination for me.
Should I need to revisit Stroud, I'd have no hesitation in staying again. Thank you Michael and Laura.
What a great hotel, well located in Stroud town centre , with the local shops located nearby.
The hotel exceeded my expectations in every way. From the moment I arrived the friendly staff made feel very much at home, check in was easy and very welcoming.
The room was well appointed was very bright and spacious, clean and extremely comfortable. I had a fabulous sleep in an exceptionally comfortable bed with great bed linen and pillows and woke up feeling fully refreshed. The bathroom was modern well equipped with a great overhead shower.
I had dinner at the hotel and the food was excellent, the menu offered a great range of delicious options ( I had the steak it was superb ) and the quality of the food was very good. The wine list was great and complimented the food in an extremely relaxed comfortable atmosphere.
The service throughout my stay was excellent, the staff were very attentive and happy to help and went above and beyond to make my brief stay an absolute delight.
I would highly recommend the Stroud Hotel – the combination of friendly staff, excellent service, a very comfortable room and great food makes it a truly special place. I know I will be back.
Our stay was part of our 25th anniversary and 60th birthday celebrations, visiting locations from when we first met. The location was perfect and so was the room. The only issue for my wife was the stairs due to mobility issues. The bar was a perfect place to meet friends and share a drink. The menu looked very good but we unfortunately were unable to try. Thank you to staff for enabling us to get into the room early and also for searching for decaf coffee!
Won’t serve any drinks alcoholic or non to non residents or residents from 10pm.
We came with a group of friends that were waiting for the last train, and were looking forward a final sit down with friends but no.
Just attitude. UK has no heart or customer service anymore.
Sraff went above and beyond to be helpful and made our stay memorable
Nothing was too much trouble.!
We chose this hotel both as a stop off break on our way to Cornwall and a place where we could meet up with friends we had not seen for a year.
We were pleasantly surprised by both the welcome and the hotel itself. Whilst Stroud itself is a bit of a mix this hotel is, in my opinion, the jewel in the crown. The refurbishment is top notch. The decor is very stylish and tasteful, up to date in every way.
Breakfast was excellent, plenty of choice from continental to cooked. Staff could not do enough for all their customers.
We would definitely return next time we are in that neck of the woods.
Had a lovely one night stay with some friends , even bought the dog along too. Had such a lovely time, very comfortable room, friendly staff and great food. would definitely go back.
