Fantastic location and helpful staff!
Can't comment on the food as we didn't eat there (Other than breakfast) however the food coming out to other tables looked great and everyone seemed to be enjoying it! The hotel is quirky and full of interesting artefacts with plenty of places to explore and sit and enjoy! Perfectly placed away from busy Bakewell with its own charm.
Be prepared to wait a while at breakfast, service can be a little slow! It certainly was for us, more on one morning than the other, but we in no rush so not really a problem.
No fault of the hotel as it's a very old building, but our room got very hot in the recent hot spell - fans provided which is great so kudos to the team for providing that as there isn't much else you can do in an old property like this!
A brilliant hotel, restaurant and bar. We loved our stay and the location for hiking was fantastic. Breakfast was really good with a great selection and the evening menu made us want to come back to try other things. Our room was very cosy and well equipped including air con.
Excellent through out

Being from London, this was the perfect quiet getaway where the villages are a short drive away, and perfect distance for the peaks. The food was lovely and staff were friendly.
My partner plays rugby so he found our bathroom on the small side, especially the shower where the door barely shut and he could head butt the rainfall shower head! Otherwise, it was perfect!
Well laid out and tucked off the beaten track
Room I had, although well laid out was at the top of the hotel on a record breaking high temperature day in June, which despite the provided fan didn’t drop below 28degrees
Fantastic location in a beautiful village, beautifully furnished rooms and a very nice and spacious beer garden.

Breakfasts were excellent. Good choices and each breakfast I ate was delicious. Food was attractively presented. The staff were extremely pleasant and polite. The dinners were also very good and the restaurant was very popular with the locals.
Service was slow. From the time we ordered our food, it took quite a long time to arrive at our table.
First impression, this is all a rather nice ambience, unhurried, relaxed, comforting. Great building. All staff were helpful, positive, engaged. Good comfortable restaurant. Nice selection. Food v.good. Pie, thai noodles, bakewell tart recommended. Breakfast, full english superb, sausages especially. Fast enough service. Nice beer after long journey. Asked if we'd like another drink just at the right time! Hotel part well organised, well explained on arrival. Room was good for one night. Bed v.comfy.
Location, brilliant for Peaks, lovely village. Price was right for all above especially considering where you are. Carpark good.
Magpie room a little cramped. Just enough room. Could do with some shelving in bathroom for your toiletries etc. Previous occupants used razor in shower. Look out for this. Carpark needs a resurface in places.
The breakfast was excellent and we loved the village.
Our room Dale End was very dark with poor lighting, very hard to read at night. Unable to open windows but air con was provided but noisy.
Room situated over kitchen so a lot of food smells and noise from bins and car park.
Shower very small and if staying longer not much wardrobe or cupboard space.
Gorgeous rooms, excellent food and staff were so friendly and helpful
The food was remarkable, absolutely remarkable; the staff were friendly and courteous; the historic building was beautifully restored; and the location is idyllic. We were just in transit to North Yorkshire, but this would make an ideal location for exploring the fabulous Peak District.
There were really no dislikes at all.
The location was perfect for exploring the area. It's one of the prettiest villages I have visited. Breakfasts were excellent with staff giving options to one's own requirements.
The staff were all very friendly and helpful.
One server in particular, Fiona, was incredibly kind to me and offered to drive us there and back to the Dales Hospital, when I was unexpectedly taken ill. She deserves a recommendation.
The room was very nicely furnished.
I'm not sure that I understood what a Boutique Room was. In fact our first room was so tiny, we had nowhere to keep our clothes and belongings, as well as having to shimmy around the room without colliding with the furniture. The Manager very kindly offered us a very slightly bigger room. Unfortunately there was a lot of referred noise from the kitchen below and our view looked out into the bin area. We also struggled to find spaces to store clothes and belongings.
The menu was extensive but we were unable to use the restaurant so I can't comment on this. It would have been very useful to have been able to see sample menus during the booking procedure to ensure that we chose the right hotel for our requirements.
The staff and the location are fantastic. Great place
