Location was excellent and nice busy atmosphere
Stairs to bedroom, tricky with luggage, lack of unloading parking.
The hotel is situated in the town and a short distance from the harbour. Our room was lovely with a large bathroom. The food was of a high standard and good selection at breakfast. The staff were friendly and helpful.
Very friendly and helpful staff
No air conditioning in room, had to have windows open but very noisy
Clean, friendly
Good bathroom, good shower, and lots of space to put things
- Horrendously noisy from outside traffic - it adversely impacted sleep, including us being woken before 6am by what sounded like a bin lorry the first night, and again the next day at 5:57am by a noisy truck. It’s on the apex of 2 busy roads, with no double /secondary glazing so no protection from the noise when lorries, trucks, buses frequently go past early in the morning.
- We were given a pokey, small room. There was a huge gap under bathroom door (see photo) which makes it kind of interesting if one of you needs a poo. There was barely any room between the side of the bed and the wall (see photo), so I had to try not to bash myself on the wall each time I got up.
- Hotel staff were not at all welcoming when we arrived. We even had to ask for help with bags instead of it being offered.
- Well cooked breakfast, lots of choice and really tasty. BUT, the menu says you can only choose one thing: what hotel doesn’t let you start with cereal / porridge then have a hot main?!?! We have literally never come across that before. Days 1 and 3, Scott and a young woman colleague who had just started work that week were great, and let us order a proper hotel breakfast. However, on day 2 I tried ordering porridge followed by an English breakfast (which in the interest of balance he did grudgingly eventually let me have) only to be told by him: “it’s not an all you can eat buffet you know” - which I consider gobsmackingly rude, and not what you want first thing in the morning. On the basis there hadn’t been any issue when Scott took our order the day before we hadn’t realised there would be that time. It made our breakfast a stressful and uncomfortable experience.
- Housekeeping was poor - it seemed to just involve making the bed and replenishing supplies, no cleaning (eg dirty tea cups left in room, sink not cleaned). One of our hand towels had a dirty dark stain on which looked (at best) like blood.
- No onsite parking.
