Pros:

Everything about this hotel was perfect except that we had a room above the patio for the pub and other guests were extremely loud even well past the midnight closing time so we couldn’t sleep.

Pros:

Stayed 2 nights in the historic room located in the Lowen Haus that is stunning! Felt like I was in an Architecture Digest video.

Service was excellent and so was dinner at the a la carte restaurant; I may even say I had the best meals by far during my 1 week in Switzerland.

While the surrounding area is relatively quiet, location of the hotel is just a short walk from Gonten station which takes you to Appenzell town within 15 minutes.

P.S., My rental car had a flat tyre on drive over and was towed away, leaving us stranded 25 mins from the hotel. They were kind enough to come pick us up!

Pros:

Wunderschönes Hotel mit modernen und zugleich traditionellen Zimmern. Frühstück war reichhaltig und lecker. Einzig die Kaffeemaschine müsste mal ersetzt werden. Der Service im Hotel war sehr zuvorkommend. In der Löwenstube grundsätzlich auch, allerdings gab es eine Dame, welche nicht sonderlich freundlich war.
Alles in allem ein schönes Hotel, dass wir empfehlen, wobei aber das Preis-/Leistungsverhältnis für uns nicht ganz stimmt. Auch für schweizerische Verhältnisse und Standards sind die Zimmer zu teuer.

Pros:

This is a beautiful place, both outside and in. The staff is amazing, food very good, and facilities very very nice. They are building, adding more facilities, I want to come back when they’re done and stay again. The church bells next door ring early and often. They bothered my teenage children, however I’m an early riser so they weren’t a problem for me.

Pros:

Everyone from receptionists to staff was very warm, welcoming and friendly, even after hours (severe jet lag left us wandering about at 4am, looking for coffee). Charming little town.
