Cozy but uncomfortable due to room temperature
Pros:

Location and staff and food is excellent

Cons:

Each floor has centralized aircon system. So you either have hot floor or cold floors. You cant have individual room air-conditioning facilities which is not acceptable specially place like Kathmandu.

All the staff were friendly and helpful. For example, I was able to keep my room an hour longer on the day of checkout which greatly helped my travel plans

Excellent choice in Kathmandu
Pros:

Excellent stay here. The hotel is comfortable, great breakfast, and all the staff was so helpful and friendly. They treated me so well during my stay. Some nice restaurants in the area, too. Wifi was strong and reliable. A special thank you to Manisha who provided exceptional and very friendly service during breakfast. Absolutely would stay here again. Highly recommend!

Comfort, convenience and kindness in Kathmandu IHG-hotel
Pros:

This (Nov 2025) was my second stay at Holiday Inn Express Naxal in Kathmandu, and I was very warmly welcomed back. I even remembered some familiar faces, too!

Most of all, the service is very good at this hotel. This goes for all the staff: security guards, reception, restaurant(s) staff and house keeping. Everyone was very friendly and spoke English (since my Nepalese is limited to about 3 words).

The hotel is located about 2km from Thamel - I would say walking distance if you don't mind crossing the busy roads! There are at least 3 nice Thakali restaurants nearby (one directly opposite) as well as coffee shops (Himalayan Java, Roadhouse). There is also a large super market around the block - unfortunately temporarily closed due to the damage following the protests in October 2025.

I got a quiet corner room which was really nice. There is moldy smell in the lift lobbies but the room itself was clean, comfortable and odorless. You can't open the windows but the air conditioning was working very well too (easy to turn on and off and adjust where needed).

The breakfast was good, and you can ask for made-to-order eggs too. I also enjoyed a simple dinner one night at the ground floor restaurant, and had some snacks and drinks at the roof top restaurant too. Once again, service was excellent.

There is also a small and simple but well equipped gym. and if you like to go out and walk/run, it's very easy and comfortable to run around the Police Headquarters (1km loop) on the opposite side of the main road.

When the hotel charges your credit card, it will read as Swornim Hotel Limited. I wish I knew this in advance, because I almost reported fraud and blocked my credit card when I saw the charge the day before my arrival. The reception staff did mention about this at check-in, but I wish this information was available already at booking.
